Leaving the key in your pocket is a really nice feature if you have packages to carry, kids in tow, and don't like keys hitting you in the leg every time you take a corner or accelerate/brake.

It'd be even nicer if all modern car keys weren't absolutely massive and weighed half a pound. I don't know how many makers still do the key "card" but if I'm going to have a push-button start without having to insert a key first I'd at least want the key to either be tiny, or relatively thin so it doesn't feel like I'm dragging around another car in my pocket.

Alternatively, I don't have all those kids and stuff so I'm happy just twisting a key in an ignition barrel.

I love the rear seats are made this way

The reason I love that the rear seats are made that way is because...they appear useless. And that means it's a real sports car!

Incidentally, I would rather replace the rear seats with storage bins, as was the option chosen on my RX7. Those storage bins are bottomless.

Man, this is exciting.
So excited I'm quoting everybody!

Something I noticed...Where do I rest my arm when I'm not countersteering and stuffs? On top of my beverages (which are stored 120 degrees to my right?!)?
I do love me a center armrest, I have to say, but you can't even reach it when you INSTALL A RACE BUCKET LIKE A MAN.

They took away the push-button start. 👎
To hell with push-button start! Completely unnecessary. Besides, I don't even want anything in my pockets when I drive because it's uncomfortable. And if I take the fob out and set it in there I will inevitably forget it because I didn't have to take it out of the ignition to turn the car off. It will become a cell phone, where I remove it from my pockets, set in in the cubby, and then forget to take it out every single damn time.

Long live the key!

EDIT: After looking at the pictures more, I think I have this car sized up. This thing is a solid 6 inches longer than my car, and probably 2-4 inches taller. Probably wider too. But I guess that's fine because it's still pretty small by today's standards.

Actually, if I'm being honest, I'm very pleased with the Scion. Little things are missing here and there, and it looks like it is more committed to being a sports car than what I would have originally guessed based on the luxed-up Toyotas and Subarus shown so far.

I'm fully prepared for flames, but I really like how cheap the interior looks in the Scion. Its cheap for a reason, and I want that to be reflected in the price. Nothing bad that you can't live with every day, but certainly not as nice as what we saw in the BRZ earlier this week.

C'mon, Toyota. Give us an MSRP. If you do it right, I'll give you a down payment ASAP.

I suppose the thing to remember amongst the changes is that Toyota/Subaru has concentrated on the driving experience. If the Scion is cheap, everything else will fall into place.

Also see a lot of Scion buyers ripping out half the interior anyway because either a) racecar or b) ricer. They'd almost be justified in selling a completely no-frills model like the one several pages back that Toyota will sell in Japan. With cheap bumpers and absolutely zero options.

Where did you see that?
I'm only asking cause the mules from a few weeks back were running what looked like stock STI wheels, which are not 5x100.
Few weeks back people figured it's gonna be 5x100 from Toyota performance parts catalogs. If you need further confirmation - there's a claim from a guy here. Also at that link - some shots from under the car. Those control arms look paper thin...
I wonder if some sti aluminium arms will swap over...

I doubt they would change anything mechanically between the three cars.

Just left the Toyota dealer. I'll be the first to know when they have one. They said July.

I didn't say they would. I was implying that there's no need to complain about spec differences when the company has concentrated on making it a drivers car.

2004 model STi's had a 5x100 bolt pattern.

I'm aware. There's a set in my garage ready to be shipped out to Michigan.
But the car was running 2011 sti wheels, not 2004 wheels.

Let's hope he's wrong.
It makes no sense for mules from as recently as 6 weeks ago to be running 5x114.3 wheels when the final product has 5x100.

edit
yeah, those control arms look like they'll snap in half after a winter or two.

I think that Toyota will not release the price on the Scion FR-S till the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in January.

I'm really confused about all this!
Been looking back a few pages but apologies if I've missed something.
So is there 3 different cars? The Subaru, Scion and Toyota?
Is there any significant difference between them?
Sorry if this has been answered but I've been searching and can't find any answers! :dunce:

Honestly, I don't remember any mules running STI rims.

Basically, here's the difference:

Toyota 86 (GT-86 in European Territories)
Scion FR-S (US version sporting slightly different Headlights & Tailights)
Subaru BRZ (Slightly more powerful version, different grille with slightly different Headlights & Tail Lights)

Specs are from what I last read pretty much similar.

There was a more recent model wearing camo on the Ring that had an STI wing on it, same one caught testing with a Supra I think. Was definitely this year, and it had STI wheels (don't ask me what year).

Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to take these meaty RPF1s and NT01s off my RX7 and bolt them up to my FR-S. Straight-pipe that boxer, set it on some quality coilovers, and buddy I'll be set. Hell yes.

That's the greddy FRS running 19x8.5+45f/19x9.5+45r.

We spent a fair bit of time on our hands and knees looking up the FR-S' skirt. Now, Toyota and Scion have stated that they built the 86/FR-S with the enthusiast in mind, and on first impressions they weren't lying. I'm sure many of us will appreciate the lip of the rear fender, which is folded back.
The +45 offset used on the GReddy FR-S were on the conservative side, so larger widths or lower offsets can be accomodated.

That has a slight LFA look to it.

I'm guessing this?
Don't look like STI rims. Maybe some JDM ones, which, I think, might've been 5x100 as well.
UPD: those are STI Enkei, I think.

Ahhhh okay! Sounds all a bit pointless to me!

The Scion might actually be the best looking version. I was wondering what was bothering me about the other two. On the Subaru it's the fat plastic lip in the grille, which admittedly looks better when there's a licence plate fitted. On the Toyota, it's the foglights set into the two side grilles.

The Scion has neither, it's just nice and simple. Looks good in black too.

I think it looks better that the turn signals are amber as well. Same for the lack of ricer chrome taillights. Since its a Scion we probably get to pay more for those as a TRD accessory.

Edit: Looks like the FR-S still gets the cool "86" badge.
