Is this doable for someone who doesn't really know the "Ring"? I gave up on the NASCAR challenge when I realized my knowledge of this track wasn't going to allow me to go fast enough to win. I've put about 5-10 full laps and done the sectors about 5-10x each. I'm wondering if I mod this car up can I still win with limited knowledge or should I avoid this challenge.

If you mod it, it's pretty doable, even if you're not that skilled in the Ring.

Just slap some Sports soft, ECU, Racing Filter and an Oil change and that would be enough to breeze through it with ease.
 
The Golf is one of my favorite cars in the game. If I can afford it, I may just buy IRL when the time comes...
 
For a Fun and competitive lap try:

2005 Golf IV
Sports Soft Tires
ECU
Oil Change

It took me two or three atempts, coming in 2nd usually, then won on the last turn with a time of a 8:00 dead.
 
i bought the mark 5
ecu, sports soft, sports susp, race filter and cat. left the suspension alone and came 2nd after looping it at the corner before the straight.
next try took out the race filter and passed the Vw for first at the start of the straight, 8:29:981.. shift at 6k rpm.
 
I've managed to beat this challenge with the Mk I tuned up to 155bhp with sport softs, got the Beetle just before Pflanzgarten :D
 
Took me a couple tries in my MkI. At first I had a racing transmission, height adjustable suspension, clutch, flywheel, sports hard tires, chassis strengthening, and power upped to 140. Wasn't fast enough on the sections of just flat out running. Second & third tries I upped the power to max (209) and knew I could get it, but made some mistakes and got into some incidents with the AI. Fourth try won by 6 seconds. This was the most fun of the 4th bonus races
 
last run in the mark 5, no power ups, sports soft tyres and sports kit suspension 8.26.635.

Golf MK4 Used with some medium tuning (sport tires, engine 1st stage, sport filter) I just can say:

BEAUTIFUL!!!! :drool::drool:
 
Golf V sports soft, 6speed, bumped to 226hp. Won by 3 secs

I love the nurbnorth.

Managed to beat the New Beetle RSI at the last corner. It was a pretty fun race 👍

Thanks, I was looking for this. Looking at the time it takes the first place car to finish (about 8:3x.xx... I know you can get a stock GTI around in 8:40 or less with a perfect run), I figured it should be possible in a completely stock GTi. I take it you needed to draft down some of the straights for this?

It is, but you have to commit zero mistakes.

You need to run perfect lap, draft every available car and master the overtake sequence.

Especially dramatic part is final straight on Antoniusbusche, where you have to use Megane for initial draft towrds the RSi, but after middle of the straight Megane will catch you again. You have to let him pass actually and line up for another draft in order to gain speed to catch the RSi and overtake it on the very last turn, on blue fence.

Crazy race.

just won this with a stock GTI V, passed the Beetle on the straight.

I blew the corner right after the fox hole which ends up being about a 3 second shortcut though :o
 
Best race of this series.

It made me love the ring after I got really frustrated not managing to control
these damm NASCAR-monters.

I think for a beginner/medium talented driver the Golf V (+sport filter +medium sport) is just the right car to get used to this track as its speed is already challenging but the car is forgiving and always
feels contolable.

passed the last car at the end of the straight either.

Mk V and sports hard tyres only is giving me a close race - I'm currently 2 seconds behind at the end. Should be able to find that somewhere - hopefully...

Did it - 8:32.649, won by 1.4 seconds...
 
I used a Mk V as well, can't remember what tyres I used but definately bought some.... Close race, beat the beetle braking for the first corner after the straight... and then nearly lost it in the final corner! SUCH a close finish!
 
Tried the Mk V stock and came 5th. Threw a set of sports soft and did a beautiful inside move under brakes on the beetle at the last corner, and beat it by half a length, running an 8:33. Absolute blast of a race.
 
I started out trying the MK I '76 stock from the UCD, not even an oil change, but losing 4 seconds in the start made me realize 100bhp wouldn't cut this even, even if i know the track. So i added the replacable tuning parts, exhaust, air, turbo, and rear wing for the "v-tec" effect! :D - then finally some sport soft tires. I left the transmission and suspension as is. Having only 4 gears and a top speed of about 220km/h was really fun on this track, it handles like a champ, weighing at only 830kg. I overtook the top two cars a bit before the straight, so i guess i could reduce some hp and have an even closer race. I like having tires with some grip though :)

Then I do not see how it is possible to win full-stock car (Comfort Soft tyres) and just an oil change.

RSi have 18 seconds advantage over the stock MK5 at the end, can be reduced to 16 seconds if you drive with zero-mistakes and perfect catch the whole sequence of Ai cars.

I don't see how can 7-9HP compensate for 16 seconds. OK, maybe SRF, but than we're talking about different universes.
 
I'm sure it can be done. With an oil change (202 hp) I finished 3rd at 4.5 seconds. All aids were off (except ABS=1).

No you can't. Nor can you use RM models of the cars below.

You can only use: VW Golf mk I, IV or V.
 
Used a Mk1 GTI. Upped it to around 150 hp, and put on some Soft Sport tyres. I overtook the leading Beetle RSI in the last corners before the start/finish straight... nice race
 
Used the MK1 as well, tuned the piss out of it. smoked the beetle halfway through the race and had almost 20 seconds on him when I passed the finish
 
Golf V stock. Overtook the Beetle RSI in the Hohenrain Schikane.

Ok, ok I did an oil change.

No SRF as usual. No aids, except ABS @ 1.
