I bought the Golf V from the dealership and on to the track!
Full stock - the race was pretty intense. It was interesting that the gap to the leader was always moving which means maybe I suck at this track ... haha. :dopey: I was like 2nd or 3rd by the first attempt.
That's when I bought the soft racing tires which seem are the "cure" for these events lately. Honestly you gotta try this! The car is like glued to most of the track so it makes it quite fun to drive it. The best event in season 4 so far (I didn't complete the 5th event still). :dopey:
 
This was the most fun race for me of season 4. I past the beetle on the very last corner right before the finish line.

I know you can get a stock GTI around in 8:40 or less with a perfect run), I figured it should be possible in a completely stock GTi. I take it you needed to draft down some of the straights for this?

I ran a 8:41.6xx bone stock, no oil change. Had 2 errors which would bring a perfect run to 8:39.xxx but I dont see it running a 8:33 :grumpy: if anybody did, i would like to see a replay !

Yes, you need to draft as much as you can.

Some good drafting spots are after the Flugplatz, Aremberg, Bergwerk (I went to 4th before hitting Kesselchen), Pflanzgarten II (if you take all the corners with the correct angles, you can jam the accelerator all the way down, even with comfort soft) and of course, Döttinger h¨he (if you draft all the way behind the 2nd place car in the straight, you'll gain a pretty decent speed boost, quite enough to come close to the RSI if you brake late into Hohenrain).

It is, but you have to commit zero mistakes.

You need to run perfect lap, draft every available car and master the overtake sequence.

Especially dramatic part is final straight on Antoniusbusche, where you have to use Megane for initial draft towrds the RSi, but after middle of the straight Megane will catch you again. You have to let him pass actually and line up for another draft in order to gain speed to catch the RSi and overtake it on the very last turn, on blue fence.

Crazy race.

5 HP in a brand new Mk V.

I don't use assists other than ABS = 1 and I drive with a DFGT. As I said, it helped that I've been driving a lot around the Ring these past days, mainly to see how low I could get my time in the GT-R '07 in Arcade with Sports Hard. That's why driving the Golf V GTI stock wasn't a problem for me.

After finishing Le Mans 24H A-Spec, which I'm currently racing, i'll do the lap again and I'll post a replay.
 
8:33.5 and 0.2 behind first place with a completely stock (no oil change) Golf V.

I added soft racing tires; engine upgrades; and weight reduction on the Golf V (09) and enjoyed the run to the front; it was also the earliest I gained the lead in this type of Nurmburgring 1 lap challenge) :)
 
nicely done :) thank you for the video, i found out i didnt have to lift at some fast corners.. will try again tonight :dopey:
 
Stock Golf the best I've tried was a 8:45....Sports hard I did a 8:29 to beat it....

MkV stock with oil change bought SH & SM tyres.
SM tyres: won by over 9 secs, take the credits and XP, then change to SH and hit retry...

SH tyres; what a race ! I was not perfect but used my experience at the 'ring to gain time and overtake without losing time, drafting wherever possible. Then the end sequence and it was an similar to Amar's post. I overtook the Megane at the start of the long run, but the Megane drafted pass me, and then I reused the draft. I overtook the RSI (cleanly) under braking for the right hander that takes you into the RLR section at the end.

Summary: A stock MkV with SM is a good chase, SS or racing tyres would be way too easy, but SH is the way to go for a good, fun challenge. I now have to try with stock tyres but I am not sure that I have the skills. Kudos to anyone winning this with CS and no upgrades.
 
Like some of you, I won the race with stock Golf V with oil change (202 HP). Overtook the Beetle just after the last corner and won by 0.021. Although, I had two contacts and will try it again so I have a replay of a clean lap.

Great event. BTW, nice lap Sander. Congrats on winning it with full stock.

I managed 5th in a bone stock MkV with several off track excursions.
After ripping out some seats and an ECU tune it should be no problem.

Hopefully another Mk1 will show up in the lot so I can make a little track toy out of it though.

I didn't manage to win it with my (first ever GT car in any GT ever) Golf GTI '76 that I had tuned all the way except for fully custom gearbox.

That is obviously the issue too, I gave up too much speed on the longer straights, capping at 200 or whatever. I think it should be possible, since I'm a horrible driver. I can turn most cars into efficient lawnmowers.

After 3 tries my best is 3rd, 5.1s behind. Thanks for the replay too, I see now that I need to be in 3rd coming onto the straight and with enough momentum to catch the draft of 2nd. Now only if my G25 didn't break yesterday...:(
 
I really enjoyed the race to be honest. It was nice dumping a v dub and putting some racing softs on it. I wouldn't have done this unless there was the event. So in a way it was a very enjoyable experience that I wouldn't have had without the event.
 
Easy as Pie (for the Ring at least), just added engine upgrade 1, ecu, weight reduction 1, and some other things (no more than 5k) and sorts soft tires.

Best I have done so far with a stock (no oil change) GTI '05 is 4th. Just a couple of mistakes but I am not sure I can get to 3rd. I still don't know this track well enough. I just can't seem to keep my speed maxed out for the whole run. always seem to have have at least 2 sections where I end up being really slow because I forget where I am. Too many sections that look similar.
 
The seasonal events are now a piece of pee. I love all you who report your "setups" to sound cool lol. Seriously I bought the 05 Golf + racing hard and won first time by a country mile. No need to play with the setups.

It seems you want to sound cool too by buying Racing Tyres and overkilling the competition.

Try that without buying something ;)

Don't know why they put so many SuperGT cars on online lot when they could have put up a '76 Golf in there.Hard to find but I had one and tune it to 140hp with sport softs.Still haven't got first but I'm usually .5 sec.behind Beetle.Just have to get lucky on the drafting and pass well....Highly recommended.!

This event in my 167hp Golf I is the best fun I've had in GT5.

Wish A-spec was "catch up with 11 cars" like the seasonal events, instead of "race against 6 slow cars to the first corner, and 1 fast car till the finish line."

I would much prefer the full grid to be competetive from a standing start ... I find both options you suggested are somewhat unrealistic 👎
 
I bought a MkV and spent 70,000 credits on the car and tuning! I won! :sly: Made about a 680,000 credit profit.:cool:
 
Has anyone tried in the mkIV Golf? I tried, with small upgrades, but couldn't get closer than 5 place. But I was using clutch. Anyone else using clutch in this race?

Well, they do run different classes at the 24 hours race IRL, so avoiding traffic is rather realistic if you want to take that into account.

In the stock Golf V I used sports soft, where sports medium would have forced me to drive better and push the car a bit more. Still the final straight made for some nail biting racing as it was anybodys guess who would win from the three contenders. All in all a close thing with not too many long gaps between the cars and the drafting was good fun.
 
Golf GTI Mk I with these mods:
ECU
All intake and exhaust mods
Fully customizable transmission set to 230km/h
All drivetrain mods except LSD
Sports soft tires

Lost by 2 seconds. Not happy. :grumpy: Added stage 1 engine tuning to bring power up from 136hp to 140. Beat the Beetle by over 2 seconds. Funny how 4hp makes all the difference. 👍
 
I love this car. I was going to buy one and RM it anyway.
