Seasonal events = A way for weak drivers to get ahead.

as i've said elsewhere i make the seasonal events a challenge for me by setting up the car so its not an easy win e.g. the nissn 350 one in the current seasonal events - oil change sports soft 5-6 attempts before i nailed it - i'm no vettel so the option is there for those who are to run it stock or even downgrade the tyres if you are outrageously good. I enjoyed them when they were restricted but the removal of restrictions has not reduced my enjoyment at all. If people want to turbofy their cars to the high heavens and win with ease .. that's absolutely fine by me ...makes no difference at all to my enjoyment of the game... and that's what it is ...a game ...at the end of the day it is not really important ... if you are going to get upset about things there are much much more important things than GT to care about.

Can't really understand why folk get so upset about this stuff.

purely my opinion of course!!!

I think the seasonal events are a tacit admission by PD that they failed the money and xp system in the game, as well as the number of events.

I'm 30, have a wife and a job.. I enjoy games that are challenging and that's why I waited 5 years for GT5.
If you think what seasonal even did is "keep the game fun״, go play Need For Speed, you'll have a blast.

I mean no disrespect, but I honestly pity your wife if you spent the last month playing GT and are now envious of some online friend (who you probably have never seen), who levels up quickly to 20.

If I had a wife and a job, I'd be busy being productive in daytime and busy f:censored:ing the wife at night.

Well, my elitist count is now at #745678 on my clipboard.

Before Seasonal Event, I'm at level 23 A-Spec & 20 B-Spec, then my HDD data corrupted. And it even when you cant backup files in GT5. Start all over again, till I'm at level 13, PD introduce Seasonal Event, I'm leveling to level 20 in 2 days!

I love Seasonal Event especially when they do restrictions. It's fun to tune your cars & won it after so many tries. Without restrictions, it's became so much easier but honestly, lost it's fun.

Funny how people find the need to constantly insult one another, not to get their point across, but just because they can.

Seasonal events are okay for us who got the game late.

I'm at level 32 and STILL haven't got to level 33 despite the seasonal events.

I know I shouldn't care how other people are playing their game, but he's a good friend and we're competitive and I DO care! :)

Hahaha I know this! Very much the same with some of my friends and the best of them had a YLOD just about a week ago... good for me and very bad for him cause he didn't backup his save file...

I managed to put in a lot more time to GT5 than i anticipated i would be able to do pre-seasonal's and managed to get myself to level 21 but then looked at the amount of XP and money required to get to somewhere close to 28-30 to be able to have most of the events and endurances and thought .... oh well thats GT5 done with given the amount of xp i was winning and i didn't want to just spend my time grinding the same race over and over

The seasonals for me have transformed the game into a GAME... i'm now level 28, have a nice selection of cars, had some good fun races doing the seasonals with a mix of tuned and untuned cars and now have more or less the whole of extreme and endurances to just enjoy

I know some people are just crying foul of seasonals but it only takes someone to 25 from 0 or from 20's to around 30's. if you care THAT much you can show off your level 40 toon etc ... i know it'll be months before i get anywhere near 35 although tbh the only thing that unlocks is the final elements of 24hr endurances which i simply can't do with life restrictions and the X1 which i also think is a bit of a joke car anyway.

So for me.... once i get to 30 and clear most of the standard content that'll be me done with GT5 except for fun races ... and casual play but at least i've had the chance to get to it so i'm grateful for PD giving us this knee up

As you all know, now with the Seasonal events, you can get to 20+ level in a heartbeat..
I worked hard for a month and saved up to buy a FGT when it comes up in the ucd. And now a friend of mine bought the game in in less then a week he's already bought a FGT!
He didn't even finish the a-spec professional events, and he'd already level 24 and got a FGT to win all the races I broke my head winning.
That's taking a part of his game's fun too, not knowing it should be harder to get level up and win "All star" races and such.

I know I shouldn't care how other people are playing their game, but he's a good friend and we're competitive and I DO care! :)

So in short, I think the seasonal events are way too easy if you can mod the car. And for such, they give way to much money and xp.

It makes no difference at all, the A-Spec events are easy anyway and "weak drivers" can make them even easier by over-powering their car. All the seasonal events do is allow people to level up quicker but these so called "weak drivers" are not getting anything that you're not so I really don't see what you're complaining about.

This is good news! I will have to try the seasonal events this weekend ITA.

Surely, there are more difficult seasonal events for you?

No one twists anyones arm to max tune their cars

previous seasonal races, you took the car they selected and ran it stock.

I agree, I liked the first couple of events with tuning restrictions! the rx7 event at tsukuba (sp?) was fantasticly frustrating AND rewarding!

I agree that anyone should be able to do it how they want, but I also see the OPs point that if you don't know better, you may well be ruining your own experience without realizing it.

It's the same logic that goes behind drinking ages - good intentions and understanding the consequences of your actions are not one and the same.

Usually games are laid out so that the extremes are covered and difficulty setting of some sort guides you in a direction that ensures you don't accidentally cheat yourself of a rewarding experience... for instance warp whistles in Mario were reasonably well hidden... if they just popped out of a block in the first level with no warning what they did many people might end up at the last castle with no game experience to base it on and not realize why the game is so enjoyable... with no restrictions, the Seasonal Events do feel kind of like just dropping warp whistles around... sure if you know better you can control your environment, but the opportunities to accidentally set yourself on a rather poor path is very prominent.

comparing underage drinking and video games are 2 different things. who cares if other people are ruining the game experience for themselves. it's a GAME. that's just a lame excuse for complaining about how other people play their own game that has nothing to do with themselves

+1!

They're a bit of a hack to compensate for lack of events, and the insane amount of grinding it required before once over level 20 A-spec. Still fun, though, and I'm glad they introduce them.

I turn them into a challenge by seeing how little money I need to spend on the car to win! (I'm not a good enough driver to get near winning any of them with the cars left standard).

The points make a big difference from c. level 20 to 30-odd, but above that you still have to run the enduros to get big points. IOW, it's a big help in the mid part of the game but not so much to finish.

saying that having seasonal events is a bad thing is like saying all events are a bad thing. 80% of GT5's races are unrestricted. you can use any car on just about all of them to. seasonal events are nice because im not a big spender i have about 14 million credits and im a level 32 right now i only leveled up 1 time from the last 2 waves of seasonal events. i dont buy cars but when i have a reason(seasonal events) i buy them and enjoy them after the races, and most seasonal's call for premiums. trust me they will hit a wall and have to complete the events you had that they skipped.

also it gives people who just got the game a chance to earn money and get the cars they want to enjoy the game. in my opinion seasonal events are a good thing.

I dont get why people moan about them being too easy, they are only easy if you choose them to be, if people wish to play the game like that its there own choice and anyway its not fair if people have bought the game and the cant do the event because they are too hard, they played money for the game after all.

I've...got...to...quit...open...ing...these...threads...

::slaps hand::

Seasonal events should have been there at launch. Then there wouldn't be any complaints from those who started grinding before seasonal events.

First people complained because it was hard to level up and now because it is too easy .... I also liked more the first seasonal events but you can always do them with stock cars , you will get more cash because you don´t spend some on upgrades , only seasonal events I have done with tuned cars were the ones that requires a car that I already had with mods

What's crazy here is that, for some unfathomable reason, GT5 ALONE, of pretty much every game I've played, video or otherwise, is supposed to have NO UPWARDS PATH WHATSOEVER. Duping, Seasonals (as a response to all the whining) and a general increase in Cr. and XP are all a response to people that think that, for this game ALONE, they should have EVERY benefit right from the very start.

Is there another game anywhere where this IS the norm?

Seasonals are a terrible way for PD to fix the problem they brought upon themselves by short-changing A-Spec so badly (see my sig). They disappear after a fairly short time, so a) someone buying the game in a few months misses out on them all and b) they don't allow you to go back and do them again in a year or so, reducing GT5's replayability.

I still fail to see why PD can't, quite quickly, introduce another 250 A-Spec events. It's NOT rocket science. Many, many (most) cars are not used. Many tracks get almost no use at all. Many events like rally and NASCAR get such lip service, you wonder why they are included in the first place. I could come up with 100 in an afternoon's worth of thought. Why is this so hard at PD..? We don't need fancy cut-scenes for them. Simply a track, a car type, a tire limit and a car and some XP as reward. Less than 25% of the in game cars are currently offered as rewards. Plenty of room to add in the rest.

As my sig says, this lack of A-Spec events explains almost EVERYTHING wrong with the game, and, to be honest, most of the whining by BOTH people thinking the game is too hard (a LOT more low level games gives them a chance to progress without repetition and grinding) and those whining that the seasonals are too easy (no need for them with 200+ more events) and over-rewarded.

It could also give PD the excuse to bring back more stringent car limits, and make the racing more even for everyone, because those that CAN'T make it to higher levels (is there a game out there anywhere that DOESN'T have a top few levels that few achieve?) will still have LOADS of fun, close and varied racing they CAN do without repetition and grinding.

Blaming Seasonals, or the people that use them to level up without grinding (like most people who DIDN'T use the seasonals to get there), is not putting the blame where it truly belongs. It lies squarely at PD's feet, and their reluctance to weight the game in A-Spec's favor, like previous GT titles did.

Let's stop battling each other, and focus our ire at where it truly belongs...

I like Seasonal events, and I don't see it as a crutch or some kind of balancing mechanism to correct some kind of perceived mistake that PD made with the launch version of GT5. People honestly take this game way too seriously.

It's there as added content for people to enjoy.

Sometimes I think there are people who derive more satisfaction complaining about something rather than playing a game for what it is and having fun with it.

If it is simply there as additional content, why is it rewarded SO MUCH higher than any other mode..? I think way too many apologists for GT5 don't really think about the issue before they leap to its defense.

I started a new profile today in a-spec as I wanted to collect tickets (which I cashed in my main user profile as I progressed) and double my UCD chances of finding cars.

Anyway with about 4 or 5 hours driving I am up to level 22 and have nearly 5 million credits in the bank!!! Seasonal events, special events and only a couple of a-spec golds got me there.

Nice

It's clear something went very wrong in the dev cycle of gt5. Might have been Sony suddenly insisting on spending last 6-10 months of dev time doing 3d instead of letting pd balance and tune the games structure... Who knows but Destinkeys s 100% bang on with his arguments. Pd are now hobbling the structure they put in to loosen up the game and it shows something happened

Thing is, there are several different development teams within PD. The guys that code for 3D aren't the same guys working on the game structure. I don't think you can lay this at Sony's feet, as much as we would all LOVE a scapegoat other than Kaz...

i got past level 20 without these either... they were there i just never attempted them and i recently did... whoopee it raises my level but i just want the money to buy cars because i love them that much. its a good way to get money and have fun in the game, nothing wrong with that

First people complained because it was hard to level up and now because it is too easy ....

You do realize that's probablytwo completely different sets of people right?

Kind of takes any value out of the statement all together...

comparing underage drinking and video games are 2 different things. who cares if other people are ruining the game experience for themselves. it's a GAME. that's just a lame excuse for complaining about how other people play their own game that has nothing to do with themselves

One of these days I will stop forgetting that most people can't grasp how an analogy works... I didn't say underage drinking was the same as a game in any way whatsoever, I said it's the same logic that goes behind putting an age behind underage drinking (and the same logic used in any number of other unrelated areas) and then even went on to explain it.

Read: If you are not capable of understanding how your own actions may affect you, often limits are put in place to ensure that you do not make poor choices that inadvertantly have a negative impact on you.

With underage drinking it's because often younger people have not matured enough to understand the impact being drunk can have.

With games it's because you may not realize that warp whistling to the last level right away means you miss a lot of game and story building.

The point was that while seasonal event's don't HAVE to end up making you bypass a large part of the game, unless you know what you are doing, it's easy to inadverntantly have them do so as was illustrated by the story of the guy who got an FGT and then romped all the challenging a spec races with it.

It's really not that hard to understand, and even if it was I spelled it out for you entirely.

No one twists anyones arm to max tune their cars

previous seasonal races, you took the car they selected and ran it stock.

The problem isn't max tuning your car, the problem is that there is no way to know what a very challenging but doable tune is. You can creep it up until you win a challenging race, but that's not the same at all as being given a challenge you have to meet. The first one is just making the game just easy enough to beat with your current skill level, the latter one is being given a challenge then having to raise your skill level to meet it. Not at all the same thing and it's proven by the fact that pretty much no one would have arrived at the restrictions provided for previuos seasonal events through a trial and error method of "tune up a little and see if I can beat it now". No one would have ended up with the Focus challenge as hard as it was.

As for previous races where you ran the cars stock, what are you talking about? Pretty much every seasonal race from week 1 and 2 involved upgrading your car...
