Seasonal events = A way for weak drivers to get ahead.

I like seasonal events, but I think they were the wrong solution to a poor game structure.

Previously there was a serious lack of events for racers that had passed over level 25. There were numerous complaints about having to do races over and over to gain another level only to open up 1 new race then having to grind some more.

The best solution would have been to either eliminate levels altogether and use licenses to qualify for events or add more higher level A spec races to eliminate any need for repetiton of events. Seasonal events were meant to eliminate that high level grinding so needed to have lots of XP rewards, however they have made the beginning levels now seem laughable. As an example on Wesnesday night I did the 5 Seasonals and made over 3 million credits and 350000XP. Last night I did about 10 A-spec races at the professional level and made about 200000 credits and about 25000xp. That just doesn't makes any sense

I can certainly see why the OP started this thread. The Seasonals have made a joke of the beginning stages. Personally I like them, but I don't think they are good for the game

Well, what can you do when they realised it was wrong structure in the place? It is the only and best thing they could have made.

Thanks to this I can just bspec every SP races and just do A-spec on seasonal events without boring grinding ever and can still get to lv 40. :)

Well how about you change the way you approach the game. Look at lvl 25 as the "starting" point instead of lvl 0. I got gold on every single seasonal event that came out this week at A-Spec level 31 and the bar didn't move beyond half of the way to the next level. So take comfort in the fact they will still have to invest time in the game beyond the seasonal events to gain more levels.. but I fail to see why it even matters what level people are. The ONLY think the A-Spec level affects is what races they can race in single player and what cars they can drive. Does it really matter that much to you?

And PD brought this silliness on themselves. Rip the level system out of this game. It's uneccessary and all it does is create this atmosphere of insanity where people worry about what level everyone is and how they gain them. It's so pointless!! :ouch: Get on the track and race!

Read: If you are not capable of understanding how your own actions may affect you, often limits are put in place to ensure that you do not make poor choices that inadvertantly have a negative impact on you.

I see your point, but it should be pretty obvious with the payout from seasonals that it's going to boost you up pretty high. XP would be less obvious sure, but anyone over 5 should realize that a 1,000,000 credit race is going to change their experience when they only have a few thousand credits.

I don't know what a warp whistle is, but unless they gave no warning of what they would do, some of the blame lies on the player doesn't it?

The truth is PD realize how GT5 killed player's PS3. SO they come up with these events for player with new PS3 to catch up quicker.

Are you kidding me man! The seasonal events are good fun and make up for the lack of events in A-spec. Your just being a sore loser because your friend didn't have to do any grinding...

Leveling up does not earn you anything. That's the problem. People are either taking their time on it, or rushing it. Stop getting pissed.
It's all just a "mouse in a skinner box" scenario:

Leveling is pointless.

It should be this:

Leveling goes to 100. Once it passes that, it goes back to zero and back up.

Once you reach the first hundred, you become a "rankl one champion" or something. Then you get special emblems for your profile. Like CoD. The rank levels are unlimited.

If you don't have time to get ahead in the game, the way it was first intended, play in Arcade.
At first the Seasonals were hard but doable and the money was well earned. But that wasn't easy enough for someone, so now you can mod your balanced car to overpower the other cars.
Why PD just doesn't give 3,000,000 credit and 500,000 xp for free every week?

I like the SE, and I like what I think PD is trying to do with them. The current setup usually involves at least one race that is damn near impossible to win with a "stock" car (Schwimmwagen, Cappuccino), and some that you might need MINIMAL mods, and maybe one that you don't need anything at all added to the car. It mixes it up - it's the idea that you need to try them all more than once, to see which is which. It adds playability, at least for me - I find myself looking forward every single week to Wednesday night. And it's not because I need the money. Hell, I end up having to blow money just to clear out space for the winnings I'll be getting!

I really like getting the boost in XP, because frankly I don't have the time to run an endurance event every evening. My Bobs run enduros while I sleep at night and while I work, and I like to run the SE when the pop up, and a few other events during the week, but I'm still only a Level 33 on A-spec, and not moving up much at all, just because I don't really feel like doing the same old Indy Grind night in and night out. These new events offer me a "legitimate" way to run some new events with new cars and win some XP (and yes, some credits, whether I need them or not) in a way that's not "grinderish" at all. I fail to see the problem with that system.

Maybe the system was flawed early on, when you and I and thousands of others had to grind and slog away for weeks on end to get that elusive FGT. It could be that those aspects of the game were turning people away from it.

Basically, it's the totally 🤬 up A-Spec that is the cause of ALL of this.

300-400 new A-Spec events, with prize cars from the 1000 that remain mostly untouched, first of all removes some of the NEED for millions in Cr. Win them, don't PAY for them. 'Money' then remains as a way to get cars you haven't won yet, or upgrades to those you have. I think I read somewhere that the total cost of ALL cars in the game came out to about 300M cr. Who, in their right minds, want to grind for THAT? So exploits get popular, and even the game maker comes up with a totally half-assed solution based on insane cr. and XP amounts for races a child of four could win.

300-400 events solves EVERYTHING, Seasonal events just make things worse.

As has been pointed out, this is clearly a band-aid solution for a broken a-spec. Before seasonal events I'd got to level 19 and nearly finished professional events (I was just working through, race by race by race) and still didn't have much money. If there's about £500m of cars in GT5, how much could you really take of grinding? I like seasonal events as they allow me to buy the car for challenge knowing I'll make my money back on the car even if I can't win. At least I have a new car then.

I'm also getting a bit sick of this correlation people keep making about easy money event, duping, whatever and being a 'noob'. I've been driving virtually and in the real world to long to be a noob. Do I really need to prove I'm not one before I can have a fast car every time a GT is released?

What's the ultimate weapon in CoD, or WoW, or Black Ops?

Is there REALLY this insane whining to be able to use it on Day 1 of the game's purchase for these games, or are their players a bit less insane? :sly:

Why do so many GT5 players think that their lives are somehow incomplete if they don't get to drive an FGT or a GT40 in the first week or so of playing?

I played CoD. Seeing the unlocks system added to online going from CoD3 to 4 was simply sickening. The unlocks and the constant focus on flashing you with "HIGH SCORE, OVERKILL, USELESS TEXT" made CoD4 pitifully inferior to CoD3, and MW2 even more so, I couldn't buy another CoD after that. And I complained about it to no end.

Why do so many GT5 players think that their lives are somehow incomplete if they don't get to drive an FGT or a GT40 in the first week or so of playing?
I don't think that. I simply think unlocks have no place in a good game.

That's really none of your business if people think like that. Same way it's none of our business to object to this drivel that you keep spouting. Your opinion, however unfortunate, is yours.

Again it's easy to say what a million credits will do is obvious but agian that's easy for you an I konwing what we know... if you don't know what the level structures are, how far they go, the spacing etc how would you really be able to know? By the time you realize "hey I am 15 levels up after only a dozen races" it's kind of late and what if you don't notice? What if you don't realize there are only 40 levels and how they are broken apart... it's not like GT shows a map of how the levels progress and illustrates how far you are etc.

As I said there is usually an assumption that a game (especially one with explicit levels) will be designed such that no matter what you do you will be guided along a reasonable progression so it's not unreasonable for someone to just crank along without thinking or checking things like levels and what they do for quite a while...

Imagine you are a new star craft player, and you sit down and start playing. You basically know that whatever you build it's going to work towards some kind of timed balanced strategy with pros and cons.

What if there were a few buildings that basically just meant you won star craft in about 30 minutes...

Sure a player who knows starcraft would say "dude if you find you have 500 gas and a blah blah blah tower (I obviuosly am not a big star craft player) within 10 minutes you will think "maybe I should slow down" and "if your building spits out a mutalisk every 30 seconds when they are supposed to take minutes to build you would know this is going to drastically affect your gameplay".

That's all true... if you already know star craft... but if you don't?

Exactly... and that's what I am talking about. All of us here on the forum of course konw what we are getting into but even some of the users here have experessed surprise at how fast they whipped right past level 20 doing seasonals... some of them have even already done it once the hard way.

If THEY can be caught off guard, how can you assume some new player who isn't a dedicated fan studying forums about how GT works would recognize those same things?

Oh and warp whistles (damn I feel old) did very clearly state what they did... they let you warp up to 3 levels ahead in the game... the thing was when you used them it showed a screen that had an entrace for every level of the game so you knew right away how far you were getting ahead in the game by using the whistle.

Again GT5 doesn't do that... it would be the equivalent of being giventhe option to warp ahead a few levels but you don't know how many levels there are and how far the warping would take you through each level in the big picture.

So the new argument by the elitists is that the seasonals are giving too much XP and that they should be restricted by levels?

That's very bright of you lot, but have you considered the fact that these seasonals are temporary in nature and do not get stored in your A-spec library? So what you people want is to disallow lower level players from having access to seasonals OR reducing the XP seasonals give out?

It just amazes me how ... nevermind, i'm wasting my words.

Well, you picked an appropriate handle, Jedi!

As of yet, no actual answer...

Go ahead. Dazzle me. Tell me about ONE great game that had no progression whatsoever, and everything in the game was available the day you put it in your console...

You know, Seasonal events alone have sped up game progress by about 10X, but even that is not enough, is it?

God help me, I wish that someone COULD get a hacked game save (that you couldn't use online) to all these whiners, so they could crawl back into their cave and we'd never hear from them again. Boo hoo, the game's too HARD (sob), why can't I have a GT40 now (sob), why should I have to play the game and actually podium to get a prize (sob), nobody loves me (sob)...

Jeez! Mario Kart was harder to level up in than GT5 is nowadays... Did you complain on THEIR forum, too? :grumpy:

I think you make perfect sense on levels, but the reason why I don't think it applies as easily to money is because the money in GT is loosely based on real money. One look through the dealership to see that cars have ~ their real value, and you could probably quickly understand the value of 1,000,000 cr, especially when you start with only 20,000.

I can't say this with certainly, but if I was a new GT player, I would think that I would understand the impact the of credits on my game. I probably wouldn't have a clue about levels, and I do agree that PD should perhaps explain the level system more to aid people who are looking for boundaries.

Hmm, I haven't seen anyone complaining that the seasonals are not giving out enough XP and money. Where did you get that idea from? Infact, it's the elitists like you who are complaining that the seasonals give out too much XP because, as far as my non pseudo-intellectual brain can fathom, new players are leveling up faster than you did. Somehow your lot believe that the way you leveled up was the way to do it because PD intended you to do it that way (concurrently, you also bash PD for poor a-spec design and lack of races). You are just confused.

Is it jealousy, bitterness, what? I was already level 20ish when they rolled out these seasonals and I would gladly have played the seasonals and got the XP & money instead of the sterile sorry excuse of events that they included in a-spec.

As of yet, no answer...

Jealous, bitter? Not in the slightest. Simply tired of this lame fix for 300-400 missing A-Spec events is warmly welcomed, instead of being met by the storm of scorn it deserves.

I don't give a rat's 🤬 how fast you level up, I give a rat's 🤬 how short changed I was with GT5 compared to GT4, and how FEW events (that a paltry four or five a month is NOT going to make up for) I got this time..

Seriously... what would YOU prefer? Four or five new races every few weeks (that you'll never get to play again) or 400 PERMANENT additions to A-Spec? I am NOT being 'elitist'. I am simply trying to point out to what seems a tide of people that refuse to acknowledge the issue that some of the things they treasure are HURTING the eventual fixing of the game. Seasonal events are NOT a 'fix'. They unbalance the progression structure (flawed as it is) of the game. Only the permanent addition of the missing A-Spec actually FIXES it.

Seasonals are just a Band-Aid and a lollipop for a kid with a sucking chest wound. I guess all the kid cares about is someone MIGHT take his lollipop away... An adult might care about the wound actually HEALING...

Well finally destinykeys, you are being coherent and spelling out what your stand was. Wish you could have done this earlier and spared us the sparring.

I totally agree that seasonals are a half arsed attempt by PD to fix the shortage of races in a-spec. I actually mentioned in another thread that I would prefer seasonals to get added to the a-spec library permanently. I have no idea why they are shutting it down after a few weeks.

I also agree with you that GT5 is not even half of GT4's quality and I wasn;t all that impressed with GT4 either, so that's saying something.

But I do take issue with you saying that people should not be leveling up too fast or making money too fast just because you had to do it slowly. Why should we take the longer and more boring road by playing some idiotic a-spec when we can level up and earn money for cars faster by doing seasonals. Just because a game has bad structure, I'm not going to sit there going through that bad structure and torture myself. I'm going to find a away around it, and if I'm getting one (seasonals) I'm going to take it.

As you all know, now with the Seasonal events, you can get to 20+ level in a heartbeat........

........
So in short, I think the seasonal events are way too easy if you can mod the car. And for such, they give way to much money and xp.

I reached level 22 or 23 without racing at all... Levels are meaningless. Before gt5 release, I was ready to work very hard before buying a Ferrari, just to say one.

Too fast unlocking of features.....

I use seasonal events money for car collection, and I don't know how to use xp as I can't do endurance races without a saving option.

I agree: PD should give 3000000Cr./week to all players instead of rewarding so much seasonal events, as they are too easy even without modding cars.
Also think that the whole game is too easy (Hey, I won 3 races with a stock Fiat Panda!!!!!!), and go through the game is only a matter of time (and hacking  ), not ability.

The only challenge I found, at the moment, was golding special events.
Seasonal hot lapping challenge the only other way to compare players ability, but sadly... not rewarded at all.

I miss very much A-spec points.

I worked hard for a month and saved up to buy a FGT when it comes up in the ucd. And now a friend of mine bought the game in in less then a week he's already bought a FGT!
He didn't even finish the a-spec professional events, and he'd already level 24 and got a FGT to win all the races I broke my head winning.
That's taking a part of his game's fun too, not knowing it should be harder to get level up and win "All star" races and such.

I know I shouldn't care how other people are playing their game, but he's a good friend and we're competitive and I DO care! :)

Now hear my story. Bought the game at day 1 from release. Went through the same pain as you did. Had many HORRIBLE HORRIBLE gift car tickets.

Now 1 week ago my room mate bought a ps3 with GT5. Went to level 25 within a few days with seasonals on racing softs, got an r390 road car, an enzo and even a freakin' 20 million mark IV with freakin' gift car tickets. He got the Tommy Kaira ZZII in his FIRST DAY OF GT5 which I'm still desperately looking for in the UCD every damn day, still no success after almost 3 months. He's mocking me with it almost every minute.

So yeah, I feel your pain mister.

Why are people here so invested in the way others play the game?

👍

In what way does it affect you? A weak driver at level 40 will likely lose to a skilled 20 driver.

i think the seasonal events are great fun for people that are grinding.

This thread is comedy. So many posters seem to be thinking like XBox GamerTag gamers, not car enthusiasts. This game isn't about Z0mgwtfpwning other people over the internet. It's actually about collecting and sharing cars with your friends... Oh, that does of course involve having friends and wanting to share cars, doesn't it?

Anyone familiar with the world of PC sim racing will agree completely that GT5 is a car collecting game, which has very decent driving physics and really poor AI. PC sims have been doing far better AI than this for years and years. So clearly the object of the game is to earn cash in order to expand your garage. Then you can take them out for a spin, track day style against other track users.

The UCD is silly, random and annoying, but I understand why: It's to encourage you to start collecting cars among your group of friends. If you see a rare car, you either want it for your own garage or you can make one of your friends happy with it. Either way a win :)

The seasonals marginally increase the speed at which I can enlarge my and my friends' garage. Nothing more. Gosh, how awful!

Your complaining about frequent updats? whatever next jesus

Do you really think, repeating hundrets of races to buy a car is fun? Sorry, but most of us have hard job with long working time and nothing is more frustrating than doing always the same with minimal results.

As a casual player I have enjoyed doing the seasonal events because I have experienced some cars that I may not have experienced otherwise. For example the MiEV event was fun and I had no idea a car like that was in the game.

Though I agree that there should be way more events, you need to consider how long it would take for people to figure out the "best" one for the money/exp:time ratio, and people will do that one exclusively anyways, so I take that potential variety with a grain of salt.

The complaining is something that I frequently observed in world of warcraft, people complaining that the game is too easy with the premise of their argument being that other people can do the same things that they can. Personally I think that if you're focused on that kind of competition, you always have the time trial events and (hopefully in the future) leaderboards, thats where I get my competitive fix from.

Other than that though, I think everyone who is upset about how others play the game should take more of a "live and let live" approach, youll probably be alot happier :-).

must stop reading threads like this. everybody go enjoy playing the game how you like! do it now and pretend you never read this!!

If it's too hard, don't play it, if it's too easy, don't play it. I am not a weak driver or a great one, so I enjoy the seasonal events. My main account was pretty much done before I started doing the seasonals, I am doing them to give me something else to do on my other account. The game should be about fun.
