I did the GT-R seasonal challenge until I (stupidly) changed the oil, which significantly boosted the power of my (nearly new) car. I couldn't use the same car for this event anymore.

I like restrictions on the tires and weight of the car and even on the amount of tuning allowed, but obviously not on the power. This is too uncontrollable.

I have to agree, the new round of seasonal events are easy, unlike the first two, which to me, were challenging and required more than average driving skills to gold, especially that nascar nurburgring challenge.
Although its disappointing that they're not at least mildly challenging, i'm not going to complain because it means easy ex.points, and i don't have to run another endurance race to finally reach level 30.

You don't have to tune your car to 800hp to win the event. It's kinda optional but why not try driving a +800hp with hard comfort tyres?

So play online. I had no problem with the previous seasonal races. A couple like the focus event I turned on skid recovery but I did them all in my first or second try. Playing against the terrible AI in this game is not hard and never will be.

If you are so amazing go online and win every race there.

First off there are a lot of people who woudln't consider beating it with SRF on really beating it so you have to realize your mindset isn't necessarily someone elses and while going online can result in some good races, it come with a LOT of issues... lag/netcode, horrible other drivers, race lounges that constantly change rules up that might suck or suck for your garage, and if you just host your own it's quite normal to end up waiting for 10-20 minutes just to get a few people together to race...

Online offers some things offline doesn't, but offline offers a lot (if done right) you are hard pressed to get from online.

This is RIDICULOUS! Unbelievable. They had it so right in the two first seasonal events. It was a joy to play as well as being extremely competitive with all assists off! And for beginners, SRF was there to help them out...

But giving us THAT much experience and money without any challenge for the 3rd seasonal event races is just plain stupid! All cars stock and no mods (except soft sports for ford GT and Citroen WRC), i finished all five races on my first tries with all assists off. It shouldn't be like that!

I was really looking forward to a GT-R type race from #1, a Focus and RX-7 type race from #2, all we get is easy A-spec like races.

I still LOVE it. Speak for yourself.

Cry me a river, pathetic whiner.

No one is holding you at a gunpoint to fully tune the car. Personally, I'm doing the races with stock or only lightly tuned cars and I'm having a lot of fun.

Luckily for me and the ones around me, I'm not so self centered to think that PD should cater only to me, and subject people that don't have the skill or the tools to run the races the same way as me to hours upon hours of frustration.

Self centered hardcore whiners: now officially 100% more nonsensical.

The only annoying this is, the Oil Change of a stock car makes the car unuseable for them.. and you can't downgrade cars... I don't mind about the strict restrictions but it really forces you to buy a new car, even if you have it already.

EDIT: I saw they have no restrictions.. That's a bit disappointing...

You will notice they removed restrictions form all the seasonal events...

I had hoped the new bout of seasonal events would have been set so that restriction could be met while still allowing the unremoveable upgrades - that way you could still tune the car up to use in other races, but detune it to do the seasonal again at a later date if you want the same challenge again without having to rebuy the car.

It kind of went exactly the opposite direction for me... now I am less inclined to want to do the seasonal event anyway...

I wouldn't say ruined, just not as special anymore. Before, you had to do like 5 qualifying laps to win, and if you lost it's cos you wasn't good enough. Now it's just too easy to max out and dominate, I hope they change it back!

/rolleyes

So now everyone was "cheating" in the previous seasonal events also?

I highly doubt you are doing these races without ABS so why are you "cheating" as well??

Where did I say anything about cheating?

Right there......... you said I didn't beat the focus event because I had SRF on. So by your definition I was "cheating" just like it is "cheating" in these events to fully mod a Prius and enter it.

Personally I dont see why anyone really cares how other people play the game. I mean if you are so hardcore and amazing go get first in the time trials.

How about you don't selectively quote and leave out an important part of the phrase. What I really said was:

First off there are a lot of people who woudln't consider beating it with SRF on really beating it so you have to realize your mindset isn't necessarily someone elses

As in you said you already easily beat them (as part of the reason why you felt this is a non issue) but I pointed out that not everyone considers beating them with SRF to be truly beating them thus your reasoning might not apply to others and vice versa. I don't feel I have beaten an event until I do it without SRF on... it's fine that you do, but then your arguement based on easily beating the challenges with SRF doesn't apply to me.

I never said it's cheating, I just said you have chosen a line of logic that might work for your, but doens't work for everyone so don't make a blanket argument off it as if it does represent everyone and don't go putting words in my mouth.

Some people don't consider it "real chess" if you are allowed to take back your move after taking your hand off the piece, some don't care. I am not saying either is a cheater, just that one mindset doens't cover all.

Personally I dont see why anyone really cares how other people play the game. I mean if you are so hardcore and amazing go get first in the time trials.

I don't care how others play the game, I care how the game works for me. If you want to dupe an X1 and use a gameshark (I know it's not possible but ou get the idea) to use it in the vitz challenge, hey that's fine. It doesn't affect my game in any way.

The new seasonal events CLEARLY affect my game.

Ironically you are the ones telling others how to play their game...

The only thing more annoying than whiners are "elitist"

GT5 didn't give me race restrictions, so I used a car with every conceivable upgrade, and it was too easy. I am very, very angry, and shall draft a stern letter to my congressman... after I make an angry post, of course. Priorities and all that.

I don't see the seasonal events as ruined just because you can max out a car...
You still have to upgrade the car which costs money, so it's still a challenge to win the race with the minimal amount of money used, for those who want a challenge.

Actual challenging races where you had to pay attention to upgrades and tuning. I loved them, as did many others based on comments in these forums.

Now all tuning restrictions have been removed from the 2nd round of events and the 3rd have none to start with. Why is PD so out of touch with the end users?

Now all that can easily be overlooked - it is easier to make an 800hp car and annihilate the competition than to work at improving skill. How many people new to GT5 will do just that and then wonder what all the fuss is about?
I have not looked at the new events as yet (because Bob is doing the 24hr Le Mans) but have read the details on here;
I found the first two seasonal events great fun, and I am disappointed to hear that restrictions are lifted but that does not mean they are ruined.

Maybe PD are just mixing things up and making it easier for the casual player this time around ? You can always add your own restrictions for a more personal challenge. I would expect that in time, at GTPlanet, people will start having competitions like, 'who can win this event with the least' type of thing.

Provided they mix it up and continue to provide new challenges for the more experienced GT players in future then fine.

At the moment I think you are overacting.

I like it a little harder, but i cant stand this challanges with 10 laps or more on a boring course with lame cars!
Thats the reason i didnt finished the Rx7 challenge i guess...

Noz

Your supposed to revel in the fun of actually driving the car itself....

As for seasonal events... I think that PD need to do some system, like:
Bad tires, less hp, less of other stuff on car => more money
Racing soft tires, all possible upgrades ==> a bit less money.
No need to make some complicated system which will check your car specs before race, 2 types of a prize is enough.
Everyone will be happy that way i think. =)

This, or something like a sliding scale of reward versus upgrade. Could be used in A SPEC as well?

Wow, another aspect of the game is ruined. What's next ? Free money and free xp for as loging in bonus ?

You know I'm not the kind of guy who needs games as hard as those from SNES / Mega Drive ( Genesis ) times without a saving option and 5 lives for the whole game, but there has to be some motivation. I just won 2.5 mio credits and a lot of xp and I already was first in the 2nd or 3rd lap.

I mean after boring myself through the last 3 events I'll head back to COD Black Ops. And you know what, in mp the best get the kills, get the points. If you suck, you'll suffer. Then you either try to get better or you cry yourself to bed after an evening of 0.5 to 0.1 kill death ratios. I don't hear anybody complaining, well how many copies did they sell already ? 15 to 20 mio ?

I didn't touch a single A Spec race yet in GT5, all I did was licences, special events and seasonal events ( lv 25 atm ) because they were motivating.

I mean isn't it good enough to get some xp and a little money out of these seasonal events when you suck at GT ? Does every loser have to have everything in gold and drown in money ? What society do we live in ? Seriously, what happend to the japanese hardcore games ?

The seasonal events were perfect as they were, never change a running system, I hope PD changes the rules back to normal with the next set of seasonal events. I mean, they actually did change a lot in the past few weeks, so I'm not giving up hope so far.

And no, I don't like torturing myself by setting up my own challenges - I paid for a game to do it for me. It's called motivation. Well next month we'll get Test Drive Unlimited 2. The prequel was awesome, no real driving simulator but a motivating GAME.

So I assume since you are so amazing at Gran Turismo you are first in the Time trial and drift boards?

Also I don't understand how you can relate the single player of a racing game to a multi player FPS. Again if you are so super awesome that the single player in GT5 is super easy for you........... why don't you play online?

Why are the concerned citizens in this thread (and other threads as well) so upset with what the rest of the GT5 players are doing? How exactly do these newfound lack of restrictions prevent you from enjoying the game?

Sure, some kid can go into the seasonal events with a 700hp car and smoke the competition. That's great, but how exactly does that prevent you from winning the events YOUR way? And don't say it cheapens the achievement; you'll always be able to say that you beat such and such event with a stock Savanna RX-7 on comfort hard tires. Just like that guy in the other thread will always be able to say that he beat GT All-Stars with an Audi RS6 even though he could've done whatever he wanted to for that race.

It's like A-Spec points in GT4. If someone wanted to go win a bunch of 7-10 point races to beat the game, they could do that. If someone wanted to shoot for as many 200 point races as possible and 100,000 total points, hey, they could do that too. What a novel concept!

I guess I just don't see why only the hardcore GT5 crowd should be able to benefit from the seasonal events.

All well and fine, but these new events give me an empty feeling..... it's just not the same ... sigh.
They are hardly races as well, so don't call them races on the game screen.

PD x Facepalm

Each GT game is getting more and more watered down, each update the same. The price of becoming mainstream.
Not a good trend.

There is a void being left for someone to step in and get back to the roots of the GT game we used to love, but evolved with the times.

I like the new approach. It at least caters for all level of GT5 player which is good. Some of the more casual players will find the races are within their capability.

If you find them too easy fit lower spec tyres and remove any upgrades. You can make the event as easy or as hard as you like. I went for the easy approach initially, but will revisit and remove upgrades to see what I can still beat it with. In my mind they are more fun than the sometimes hard work of the first set.

As people have been clamoring, including myself. It's about time PD added levels into the game

Easy level, do whatever you want, but you get zip for it

Medium, pretty much and competent driver should be able to do it without having to resort to SRF as long as they know the car and track. You get moderate rewards when you place first

Hard level, like the previous events, it should be a challenge. You the most rewards by placing first. Now if you place lower your rewards will still line up with what you get on medium level, as far as total time/placing goes

Something like that

Having it totally open is stupid. At least with levels you get a guide from the game as to how to make it challanging, right now, you don't get any idea what tyres, and what mods to use.

PD really needs an outside source for game design input because they are incompetent internally in such matters.

I personally think the restrictions gave you something to aim for.

The 394bhp sport hard tyres was a pretty specific setup to have to use, and required practice, decent setup, and flawless driving to yield results.

Now, you could quite easily be forgiven for trying it in a similar state of tune and thinking "this isnt possible" (god knows i thought that several times while doing it) and so tuning your car more and getting an easy win out of it.

Ive said it before in another thread, removing all restrictions is a bit silly. The RX7 tsukuba one for e.g should have allowed maybe 20-30 bhp more or sport mediums to cater for the slightly less hardcore.

removing all restrictions completely is a bit strong and makes the game a bit easy IMO. Itll take the enjoyment out. I dont really have any interest in doing the seasonals now except for some XP And cash; whereas before it was just so i could say i'd beaten it.

So in response to the comment "you'll always be able to say that you beat such and such event with a stock Savanna RX-7 on comfort hard tires"

I will say "and someone else will always be able to say THATS EASY! I did it with the same car and won by 4 laps"

And then you find out they had 700hp and all the aids on.

The events were easily in everyone's capability with SFR but required you actually try to drive cleanly. Maybe that's too much for some?
