I was wondering if there was a way to send replays if your race to friends so they can watch it on there gt5 ?? Doesn't have to be on mpeg avi format. Even just a gt5 save file of the replay can this be done?

This is a big pet peeve of mine.
But it's just not possible.
The replay "videos" are not videos in the sense they're not actual video files. They're simply game reproductions of the movements made by the cars on a track in the game. If that makes any sense. (That's why they don't take up anywhere near the amount of hard drive space a video of the same length & type would use.)
And so the replays are inexorably linked to the particular game file the race was played in and the replay was saved in. They are non-transferable.
The only way to share video is to make an ACTUAL VIDEO file of it - by using a video recorder of some type to actually film your race on your television/monitor screen.

Yev
Well, you can.
Export the replay file, copy to USB and send it via PC.

That works? You've tried it?

You can't send it via PS3 though?

How do you import it?

Can someone give specific instructions please?

I wasn't even able to transfer a replay from one account on the same PS3 to the other. I couldn't figure out how to import it to the other acct.

All of us that have done the SiaRPC have done this. Save your replay and export it from GT5 to the XMB. I'm not sure if you can then attach it to a message via the PS3 or not as I sent mine through mediafire. The recipient can then import it from the XMB into GT5 to view it.

Credits go to McKiernan from this board:
you'll have to extract the file & put it into a folder called SAVEDATA (all caps) that folder must me in another folder called PS3 save this on a memory stick & then pop the memory stick in your PS3 & go to Saved Data Utility on the XMB highlight the memory stick icon & copy the replay from there.

Damn TB was faster

This is just one of the many ways PD failed with GT5. There's really no excuse for not being able to share replays. Even if they don't want to fool with converting them to videos (FM3 allowed us to convert them to video files and upload them straight to their website, from which you can download them and do whatever you wish), they could at least allow us to share them like we can share pictures and Course Maker tracks. FM3 allows us to share all sorts of stuff, including more pictures, tuning setups, vinyls, liveries, and replays, and share them with the entire community (rather than just our friend list).

I really wish we would start being more vocal about the need for PD to start taking notes from other developers. This really should have been in the game on day one.

Lets not get into another Forza/GT debate, mkay?

I think I just read three different posts above yours telling us all how this was possible to do.

Yes , replay sharing is possible under the same gameversion.
I´m not sure if it´s possible between different gameversions (european , american and japanese)

The European Version is BCES00569

Wow... thanks Thaddaeus. That's the information I needed. I didn't understand the folder stuff I think. I'll try it... when I find the memory thingy.

Well I think it would still be nice if you can share it online the same way you can share photos. Know what I mean? That would be much easier & nicer. If you can put one up for share like a photo and your friends could easily access them.

So in that case... I'm in the US. If I'm in an online race with a friend in the UK... and I save the replay. If I sent that friend my replay, that friend would not be able to import it & watch it, like described here?

I bet that's why it's not a share option like photos. Though why they would need to have different format versions for different regions, I can't imagine.

thanks Thaddaeus.

to much honor here. Credits go to TB and McKiernan :)
I just copied :)

@ IceMan: If you are correct, how do you explain that there are for example youtube videos of GT5 around? xD
We might not have a direct share and dont care option but i guess there are more important things in a game than the option to show ones dick.
(and im not arguing than ANY game these days is released with heavy flaws)

YouTube videos aren't created by GT5, you need a separate capture facility (throughput capture card, camera pointed at screen etc.). Existence of second-party video capture doesn't help with the replay sharing issue :D

yes, im perfectly aware of that. But its very easy.
Plug hdmi into pc, push "play" on ps3 and record on pc. upload. done.

Noone is saying it isn't easy... just that it doesn't answer the OP's question; "How can my friends watch my replays in GT5". There is no video import option for GT5!

The OP's question was answered, It can't be done through GT5 directly, however it can be done by YouTube or Memory Stick. The Memory Stick method, allows you to watch your friends replay on your GT5, region specific though!

You unfortunately can't attach the exported replay file to a message sent on your PS3 via PSN.

@ Watermelonpunch if you like I can send you a pm explaining how to do the memory stick method, it's pretty straightforward, once you try doing it, the folders bit all makes sense

Ah, I misread the "so they can watch it on there [sic] gt5 ??" part and presumed he wanted them to watch it in their GT5, which you can't do once you've rendered the GFX output to video. My bad :D

It CAN be done via GT5 directly, insofar as exporting from GT5 > emailing a replay file > importing to GT5 is direct.

So... with all the recent GT5 and PS3 system updates since this thread died, is there any easier way to send replay files yet, or is it still just as long winded?

No there isn't.

The Files are <50MB per replay and Region locked normaly. THATS the only problems for most users....
As you know BT average ISP speed is only 4Mb/s still, Thats a wait time of over 2mins to download 1 replay thats to long still for most users.
EU GT championship replay files.

To Download that lot would take average user 20mins

Uploading will take over 4 mins for most UK users per File. Thats Why its not done. Never mind those files took over 500MB of server Space and that was just one EU user.
