For such a niche gaming community to get a game like this on a console, everyone has something critical to say. I do not get why everyone seems so slighted by PD. You got console industry standard in car physics, It has 200 cars, with full interiors, plus like every other car from the series to date. Plenty of tracks from both reality and fiction. Fun special events and online racing/events. Fairly regular updates, and the guy who made it actually reads and responds to all you arm chair game critics.

I would much rather play this game then the one it think quite a few of the members on this site would make. Which if I'm correct I'm my assessment would be a game that only people with racing seats with expensive fake car steering wheels, an FIA license and a 5 point harness would be able to play, oh yeah it wouldn't have any driving assists, all the events would require you race with only one kind of car that put you at a disadvantage. so on and so forth.

I have been playing since GT1 and I'm very happy with PD and the game.

As Louie C.K. said "Its going to space, can you give it a freaking second?"

To answer your question:
People are so critical because, relative to what the state of the videogame industry was, at the time, GT4 was a better. And so was GT3, in my opinion.

It had an AAA development time, an AAA development budget but has to compete with Forza and even Shift instead of totally trouncing them.

Plus, I smell a lock coming.

No problem with the game at all. :)
and so, different people, diferent opinions.

Well done for announcing your opinion by completely belittling the opinions of others - excellent work there, bravo, there should be a trophy for that... :rolleyes:

Sometimes I wonder why the world is so full of people who can only see one point-of-view and not accept that there may be differing opinions to their own that are equally as valid in their own right - oh, hold on, I think there is a mental health disorder for that... *sigh*
 
Ahh goody, another complaining that others are complaining thread. Good stuff.

It's just a shame that so many are plain fanboys for lack of a better word, and willing to time after time give developers a pass when they make loads of promises, get you in the store early to plop down premium money on LCE's and the like, then fail to deliver on half the promises they made when they were trying to sell the thing. In no other industry in the world is this type of business practice accepted.

Quite frankly, you people who "complain that others complain" should be thanking the complainers. Bill Gates once said the only feedback he was truly interested in hearing was negative feedback, because without that he'd never know how to make his products better. Trust me, Bill Gates is smarter than all of you. You should listen to what he says and be thankful for those consumers that take time out of their day to share their thoughts, issues and/or complaints with any game or sofware.
 
Maybe because we got a lot more fun out of a 250 euros investment (and still do) PS2 - Wheel - GT4/GT3 than we get out of our 600 euros investment - PS3 - new wheel - GT5... and the world has evolved a bit in 6 years...
But I really cant speak for the rest of the community...

"Liking the game" and "belittling others because they don't" aren't exactly the same in my book, but whatever. "Liking the game" and "defending it from justified criticism" isn't, either.

That's just my opinion, though.
 
fair enough, I guess I'm satisfied with the game at this time. especially with fact that we are getting pretty regular updates from them. I think its kinda rediculos that its still compared with other games. Like forza, that especially annoys me. I look at it like a mac vs pc kinda thing. GT games have a certain asthetic about them, and that important too.
 
It's difficult to say anything without having an opinion which is going to counter someone else's opinion. So I will say:

Gran Turismo 5 is a Playstation 3 game. It has cars and tracks.

Well, a Mac is a Personal Computer, so it's null from the off...

It would be nice if people could discuss the shortcomings of GT5 without heaping their own pride into it. I know it's difficult, though.
In my opinion, the six years was getting the platform up and running, mostly. Some of that time was used to make the game that runs on the platform.
 
I would say GT is probably windows, Its not very pretty,and it takes a while to do everything. But I would still rather use my PC over my Imac.

there are plenty of areas for improvement. I think a lot of things are going to come in new updates that will make it better though, so im not worried about the short comings now. I think they will get fixed

It could've been so, so much better.
 
Wait, what? Are you really comparing GT to Macs? It may not be your intention, but that is the kind of fuel flame wars love!

Man, I love GT, but I have to admit its flaws. It is a great game, but it's not a "perfect" game, like GT4, GT3 and even GT2 was. Far from it. Simple things that were present in GT4 but are not in GT5 annoy me the most. The ability to alter individual gear ratios or even rewind the replay really gets me thinking what the hell was going through PD's mind when they took them out. Not to mention the terrible shadows, which literally overshadows the great work put in the car models themselves.

That said, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Why not respect them? And like said above, constructive criticism is generally a much better way to improve something than just saying that something is perfect. Of course, we're talking CONSTRUCTIVE here, not DEGRADING.

And lastly, I really don't like Macs XD

GT5 has more tracks than any other GT game :odd:
This includes reverse and other variations in all cases.

Only GT4 has more "locations", but all of these were meant to be in GT5, too.
It could have been so much better, but it's not dead yet.

If everybody always took what they were given and asked for no more we'd still be living in caves and scratching images into the rock for fun. There'd be no PS3's and no GT5.

Er, no. People characteristically like doing things for themselves, and won't rely on what they're "given" if they can (or want to) do better themselves.

"Complainers" are necessary, I agree - in a product feedback sense. But the lack of constructiveness that comes with the majority of complaining serves no-one but the complainer.

You missed the point. What I mean is, people, in general, always want more. Thay want something until they get it, then they want something better. When I said "what they're given", I meant "what they've got", regardless of whether they were given it, sold it, or they made it themselves.

Well, that's not the point you were making from the words you wrote... The implication was that because a certain branch of a particular medium of entertainment was stagnating, the development of human kind was being held back - hyperbole, I understand.

Exactly.

The vast majority of the complaints are anything but constructive. Instead of constructive, they are (I'll coin a new word) 'insultive'.

Luminis, I don't think the OP was belittling, and I also think that you make a fair case about the state of GT5 -- it certainly has its shortcomings. There happen to be a lot of folks on this board who can't seem to express their thoughts without being insulting, though, and I suspect that's where the OP's post comes in.

No.

Forza 3 sold 4.6 million.
Need For Speed Shift sold 2.2 million on the PS3 and 1.6 million on the 360.
GT5 sold 5.4 million.
F1 2010 sold 1.6 million.

Racing games sell extremely well, and are more than competitive with any other genre of game. We're not some little niche market beggars who should be satisfied with anything. To the contrary, we've as much if right - if not more - to demand the absolute best games for our money.
 
To the OP: One can actually both enjoy the game and be critical ... I am both, I like the current features but I expected more after such a long wait tbh ...

Sure, demand them. Constructively.

Demand them with your wallet, demand them with a little thought behind it. And if you're gonna make a demand publicly, do it without stamping your feet and insulting the game developers. Easy enough, right? We'll all benefit that way.

This is not an example of that, I don't think. Personally speaking, GT4 blew me away at the time - does anyone remember the feeling? "Holy crap this looks good... and its a console game!" It kept me hooked for years.. well until the end of 2010 to be honest.

I felt satisfied. I felt like I'd got exactly what I wanted.

I don't feel that now, I feel cheated and disillusioned with a game series that has thus far kept me addicted year in year out.

Now all I've got left to look forward to is 24 hr races I've no intention of doing and an interminable climb to level 40 to buy an overpriced go-kart in one of a range of lovely colours. One that was made available at level 30 I might add, only to inform you that you can't buy it yet (huh?).

Thankfully they introduced online racing, which lengthens life somewhat... other than that it'll be down to the GTP WRS to extend its life. The world of A-Spec GT5 seems barren and lonely - GT4 did not.

@post #21 - this new trend of attempting to be sarcastic or ironic via an irrelevant picture is becoming tedious. "Use your words, lad!" as my goodly mother used to remind me.

PD being a Japanese developer, and their inability to communicate effectively in English makes it unlikely that they do actually check this forum for the feed back that everyone is so quick to give, be it positive or negative. So to all the people who are so quick to hold themselves in higher regard because they are helping move the game forward, you might want to consider where you place all this valuable information.

Just a little food for thought.

In the context of the discussion itself, non-constructive criticsm leads to flame-wars which leads to the discussion being lost in a sea of insults and battles for personal pride. This community would be better off, first and foremost, if this didn't happen.

If PD and / or Sony are following the community in the manner you debunk, then it'll be an added bonus for us all that they can cut through the 🤬 quickly to find the real concerns.
