I've heard several people say "wait, you want all the complainers to be silent? How will anything get fixed?"

Nope, and nobody's saying that at all, except for the few people who say the equally inane "go play somewhere else!"

Criticisms need to be said. But I don't care where you go, if you want problems dealt with properly, you start with some respect, and not ranting and raving.

Going to the example with the waiter. Imagine two different people with problems with their food. One asks the waiter nicely to check into the problem. One rants and raves, calls the chef an idiot, and sends the food back.

Both people will have their problems fixed by the restaurant, because they want the customers to be happy, and to keep coming back. One of those two needs to worry whether somebody spat in his food.

It's simple, you're dealing with people. Treat them how you want to be treated. Yes, they're big boys at PD, and they can handle criticism. But throwing them 60 dollars doesn't give you the right to treat them like crap. And nobody else in the restaurant wants to hear the ranting and raving.

You don't have to be all touchy-feely.

Now, imagine you've told the waiter what'ss wrong with your food. You did it nicely, the first time. You were being nice the next nine times. But the elenth times, you weren't quite as nice.
Additionally, there's a bunch of people who keep screamin "ZOMG, the food's fine, go eat somewhere else!" at you all the time.

At times, it gets hard to stay friendly, you know.

After a cooling off period, I've grown to appreciate GT5 in my second month a little more...But in retrospect, I fully understand now just how incredibly high of a standard was set by GT4 (Which I didn't love as much as I should have in its day)...

The only major frequent gripes I had with GT4 were: The length of time for it to come out, and no online play/DLC...With GT5, it is hard to believe that it was made by the same people. I'm at least hoping some DLC will band-aid the gaps and add some much-needed options...

They set their own standards and didn't keep them. Instead they just put a band aid around it and give us something else to complain and whine about. More than anything they shot their own foot.

If they said that their game would loosely resemble GT4 with 200 premiums, slight model damage, graphic upgrade, online play and newer physics engine at least they wouldn't be lying. Even if they had gone this route I would have still bought it knowing what I would have gotten. Instead people just feel more than slighted and I completely agree.

Hi res screens that look nothing like in game, very low model damage or mechanical damage, UI nightmare, lack of tuning for tires and gear ratios, lack of saving profiles, taking photos of races but very little replay control, I mean it goes on and on...

They had some of these simple features in previous versions but neglected to put them in the final release. Instead we're going to get patches to fix problems that should have never been a problem to begin with. It's not that the hype ruined the game as many people say it's that PD failed to deliver their game.

Other than that yeah I still enjoy the game a lot. Online play is starting to grab my attention.

Quite a strong language you've got going there
The difference is that in the restaurant, you are one customer face-to-face with those giving the service. The feedback is very direct and immediate, and the problem in a restaurant is nothing that can't be fixed within 20 minutes.

Here we have an online community, and it simply takes time. The problems are complex, the impact it has on the game as a whole is complex. There are millions of customers, none of whom has face-to-face interaction with the service provider.

And I really thought the online bad-language filter would have knocked off the first part of that word. Better go back and fix that... :dunce:

The reason people are critical of the game is that it took way to long to complete and went through numerous delays and communications with the fans was very poor. In the end we got an amazing game to be sure but it could have been much better. There are other racers out there that do some things better than this game. I wouldn't say GT5 can dominate the racing genre anymore. BUT it's still the only racing title i want in my collection.
