Shakespeare's actually not too hard to understand, and the Old English isn't as big of a hurdle as trying to figure out how he attaches a metaphorical meaning to just about every word. I think his writing is fairly easy to understand after re-reading it a few times, and some of the imagery he uses is brilliant.

On the other hand, we're studying James Joyce's literature right now, and that stuff is pretty bloody difficult.

I hate Shakespeare's works. After reading Macbeth for English 12CP, I wanted to poke my eyes out with hot pokers. I don't see how anyone can understand his writing.

I absolutely hate anything to do with English. I despise English class. We studied Macbeth last year, and are going to study Hamlet in Gr. 12. I'm definatley not looking forward to this at all.

I dunno what's so bad about it... I've read Macbeth, and it wasn't grueling or anything... I thought it was pretty ingenious writing, though like I said it takes a while to catch on to the gajillion metaphors that he uses.

And don't think I'm some literary freak - I've always been, and always will be a math/science oriented person (I would think most of the people on a car forum would be), but I appreciate good literature when I see it. :p

I'm currently doing Macbeth right now.. it's not as bad as I thought it would be.. With good tapes to listen to, it's fairly easy to catch what they text is tryin to say.

We just finished Henry IV, and we are reading Hamlet right now. It's not so terrible, but I would still rather study something else.

I don't care how brilliant it is, I find it all boring.

 Don't tell me you read the untranslated version! ;) In all seriousness though, the version that I have [anyway] has more plain English than Shakespeare...

I like Shakespeare, but i absolutely HATE the way they make us overanalyse his works in school. I'd prefer to read his stuff for entertainment.

Beowulf rocks.
Indeed, did you happen to watch the horrible portrail of it in an Antonio Banderes movie by any chance?

Hamlet (which I read a while back was surprisingly enjoyable - quashing my stereotypical expectations of Shakespeare.

Chaucer is difficult reading. Old Willie mearly requires more concentration when reading his work.
