Should clutches and brakes have health bar like tires?

To me, realistic mechanical damage and wear is part of driving physics in a game like Gran Turismo.
Brake fading (which is not exactly wear, but it's part of the "package"), especially, is a very important concept.
I'd say that improving brakes for sports/racing use in real life is mainly not about stopping power, but endurance/braking consistency.

Brake temp/fade and along with clutch and engine/drivetrain abuse would be a good addition to GT5. So long as you can turn it off etc for the beginners. Brake fade would really help with driving skill i believe.

I'll second that, variety is always welcomed to me. ;)

Tht would also require a bit more of care when driving older cars, as their brakes and tranny wouldn't last a full Nuburg enduro in the pace I'm used to drive. :trouble:

Sure, why not. It would be a nice option for those who want it. If not for GT5, then at least possibly for GT6.

What about configurable gauges, at least for transmission temperature? Like these:

Seem familiar? :)

A little OT: doesn't the turbo boost gauge in the latest demo builds of GT5 resemble one of these by the way?

Yes, most likely due to the whole Polyphony designing the GT-R's configurable display thing. I like it. Nice, simple, and informative at a glance--once you're familiar with it.

Yes, I know that PD designed the gagues. Actually I was asking if the new turbo pressure gauge is the same as the small one in the GT-R multifunctional computer; after checking I realized it isn't, due to lower gauge resolution (less detail), but of course it's similar in style.

Back in topic- maybe if more measurable car/engine/drivetrain info gets implemented such as clutch/transmission oil temperature, to avoid display cluttering we will be able to configure gauges like in the real Nissan GT-R - if it's not already possible in GT5.

Ah, gotcha. That would be nice to be able to customize our HUD, but we'll most likely retain that rudimentary display of minimalist gauges and bars from past games in the series. There's always hope for GT6... but it would be welcome for GT5.

Clutches and brakes should wear out. I don't think we'd have to worry about buying replacements as currently we don't have to buy replacement tires. . . Less theres gonna be changes in the system with this GT. Otherwise I don't see an issue. It would increase the realism. Usually racers don't go balls to the wall the entire race, in part because of this wear and tear. So why not?

I think it would be neat. Especially when it comes to endurance races. In the past if you had a faster car you won the race. But over the course of a 24 hour race things like that could break and you'd have to spend time in the pits repairing. I would love it because it would apply to AI cars also.

I like this idea, also I would like for tires to have mileage to them as with the oil. Tires, oil, brakes, clutch plates, transmissions and gearboxes...these things take the most abuse in a car, especially when racing. GT series would be great if it would simulate wear and tear on these from race to race and these are the things that aren't automatically replaced after each race. This would definitely add a new dimension to the game, just don't make things overly pricey as when you will probably have a garage with hundreds of cars, that will be a daunting task. This will help people learn to balance their driving habits.

Yea, seriously. I wouldn't expect the clutch on a 1000hp Viper driven at full race speed would last very long. It'd make a nice balance, between power, parts wear and skill.
