What's your definition of "continuation"?

Are you just talking about carrying over cars, credits, musuem cards, etc into your GT6 profile? If so, then I agree that there should be some kind of profile import for you to be able to import your progress. But no standard cars though, unless Polyphony have specifically built a premium model of a standard you own.

Given the next GT will probably have around 500 premuims, there will be no need for standard cars to destabilise the consistency of the game.

As for continuation in a traditional gameplay and game design sense, absolutely no goddamn way. GT5 is already far too stale from using the same design from 15 years ago, and it's time for a radical shake-up.

If standard cars increase the car count by 1, I still want them. I see no reason to ever get rid of them, and I'd personally rather have premiums done away with since they seem to waste time and not do much else. I don't expect that to happen though since premiums have such a following.

Also 500 premiums, or any info on GT6, is a completely made up and baseless number/data.

GT5 has an amazing engine, to scrap it and start anew means 7 years of waiting again 👎

Some refining (and additions, obviously) using GT5 as a foundation would make for a fantastic game 👍

I see no reason to ever get rid of them
So what, are Polyphony just going to keep up-resing PS2 assets for PS4 and beyond? Don't be stupid, they'll have to get rid of standards at some point: GT6 is the perfect place to start.

Not really. If after four years Polyphony developed 220 premiums, in another four years when GT6 comes out, it's very reasonable to expect around 500 premiums based on the current work speed.

Bringing PS2 models on to PS4 makes more sense to me than making models with an unnecessarily high polygon count that only take away from the game. But like I said before, too many people like premiums so I'm not holding my breath for a standard only (or at least no more new premium models) game.

Nothing stupid about it really. Graphics are just graphics. I'd rather PD focus on making the game good rather than pretty.

When is GT6 coming out? Will it be 4 years? Will PD decide that current premiums aren't detailed enough and scrap them all? Will PD decided that current premiums were too detailed and scrap them all for less detailed ones and end up with 1000 cars? Will PD devote as much time and resources to developing the car models instead of features?

You're just guessing.

PD really need to bin their way of creating cars, doing everything by eye is mind-numbingly stupid in this modern gaming era. The Forza bods scan cars, then tweak them (they also use detailed CAD info from the manufacturers too) which means they can produce cars quicker.

I know its quite hard to get hold of the rare stuff to scan, but come on, if its too hard to find most people wont mind if its not in, go model something else that they can get their hands on (and licence).

As noble as it is sticking with 'tradition' as PD do, its time to move on a bit - modern gamers/racers don't give a monkeys whether their *insert favourite car here* is hand made/modelled or scanned (I know I don't) - we just want detailed cars, and lots of them!

Given the fact it'll be on PS4 (highly likely anyway) they should try to carry over as much as possible. Consider the fact the PS4 will have different hardware and software and probably a different, or highly upgraded OS.. it would be lengthy and expensive to start GT6 from the ground up. In basic terms they should be able to continue it, and that would be the obvious and wise choice anyhow.

When is GT6 coming out? Will it be 4 years?
Well it isn't going to be any time soon.

It just doesn't make any sense for GT6 to be on PS3. GT5 was crippled because the PS3 is crippled, so no use developing for PS3 again. Four years' time will be when we're on the bubble of a PS3/PS4 transistion.

That would give Polyphony plenty of time to build their car/track database to a more respecatable number.
You're just guessing.
And you're just being childish. Kaz already said the premiums are more suited to next generation, so why would they scrap them or change them? All the premiums being built now will be being built to a universal standard so that they're all on a level playing field.

Carrying on including standards destabilises that playing field, and on PS4, the standards will look even more out of place than they are now. The best case scenario for the standards is that they end up as museum cards, as a reminder of GT cars from the past.

But he can't really start developing until there is a PS4.

He's said many things, and some of them never happened. Why would the premiums be scrapped? There's an uncountable number of reasons, some of which I mentioned in the my last post.

I completely disagree with you on standards. What they look like doesn't matter. Going all premium will probably just reduce the car count, so premiums are worse than standards.

Though for the third(?) time, I don't see the current being brought over standards to PS4. If GT6 is on PS3, it might happen.

i like gt5 and i hope gt6 will be similar. just with all the original tracks and allpremium cars

But he can't really start developing until there is a PS4.
They can't start building up their car and track database, and planning their game design until there's a PS4? Huh?

That doesn't make any sense.

Thats pure assumption. There is no evidence to say GT6 will be on the PS4 and there no evidence it wont be on the PS3.

Well they are partnered with Sony....GT3 was a opening release for the PS2. PD would know long before us of the PS4.

Do I need to use my imagination to like standard cars? I don't wanna lie to myself.
Sorry I think standards ruin the consistency of this game. I could care less if the game had such a large count of cars. I want to feel the same about every single car in the game.
Quality > Quantity any day of the week...

It has a fantastic physics and graphics engine- it just needs tweaking, and more memory from the console.

Now when I say that for GT5 taking 6 years, all I hear is "coding, blah blah blah", basically game makers can't start games until the system is released, even though there's always games already made at release.
Go figure.

Sure they can make a wishlist, but no car models or anything solid until the know what the hardware is.

I'm not the one who's assuming it will be on PS4.

Standard cars are Quality and Quantity. Premium is neither. The number of polygons doesn't define the car, but the physics model does. Sadly I'm in the minority.

There won't be any gt6 on ps3 I am %100 sure that gt6 will be one of the first games for ps4

Not quite. What you hear from those who know a thing or two about hardware and programming is that the PS3 was an extremely radical departure from traditional computing architecture, requiring some new thinking on coding and tool making for developers. When that unusual Cell Broadband Engine is harnessed well, the results are astounding. But it takes some brainstorming and careful shuffling of data to do the incredible stuff. PS4 is either going to be an enhanced PS3 which by now is remotely familiar with developers, or something more along the lines of a multicore PC - and this time, developers are working with SONY on the design of PS4, so it's not going to be like diving into an ocean next time. And next time, skimpy ram isn't going to be an issue.

You also forget the discussion of the GT5 Premium assets taking more than a man-century to build and texture. But I'm used to people forgetting and ignoring the basics or facts or whatever around here.

/end quote response (for clarity's sake)

As for GT6, even if SONY gave choice developers like Polyphony a sneak peek at the preliminary specs, they would be able to forge ahead with GT6 development because model data is handled roughly the same regardless of platform. Anything tailored for a revised PS4 should just require some tweaking here and there, such as size of texture files.

As to the original topic, I'd like to see something this time of Kazunori's remarks that he wants Gran Turismo garages to convey ownership, and that stuff accumulated from the previous game should carry over to the next.

But... okay, I doubt we're going to see this. Since one of the big joys - and chores - of Gran Turismo is collecting cars, having garages port over kind of clobbers the whole start of a new GT. I would like it to have some kind of effect though. Something like GT6 checks the PSX's hard drive for GT saves. If it finds a GT5 save, it gives you some goodies. A Prologue save, gives you some more goodies. Those lucky stiffs with a GT4 save, even more. Maybe, I know that only the early fat PS3s could play GT4, so I doubt Kaz would go that far and stiff the majority of PS3 owners. But something like that for GT5 and Prologue would be great.

Anyhow, about that writing...

What if 6 had a whole new slate of 1,000 cars that you could earn. Keep your cars from 5 and go after new cars from 6.

They should just keep all the premium cars and tracks, scrap everything that is standard and below premium.

And add more premium content!!!!!!!!!

Simple. Oh and make a more realistic physics model and damage model.

i like gt5 and i hope gt6 will be similar. just with all the original tracks and allpremium cars
I doubt they could make all cars premium in GT6, that's why I actually want PD to tone the graphics down a bit on premiums so we could have more cars with cockpit view and less low poly cars with tail lights that look like stickers.

You make no sense whatsoever. I use a wheel and I am completely aware that both cars can be treated the same way.
Models from a previous gen game/console are considered quality nowadays? I can't possibly see how can someone defend the idea of standard cars.

Hey, I am just being honest, Standard cars look like crap and I like enjoying the details of cars by it's physical looks and it really adds to the feel of the car.

No full GT game has ever been a release title for a PlayStation system (I suppose you could sort of count GTPSP for the PSP Go, but that's stretching things).

Why not? Models up to the current standards of Premium wouldn't exactly be low-rent, not half as bad as the current Standards of GT5, simply because GT5's Premiums are modeled as multi-piece items, not all-of-a-piece like the PS2 legacy models. Models can transfer fairly easily; PD could "over-engineer" models and then modify them down to manageable sizes once specs for a new system are finalized, to use simple terms. Of course, this is all assuming GT6 is on PS4, something you and I both agree isn't a sure thing.

If this game were purely about the racing and nothing else, that'd be a valid point. But the graphics play a part, in immersion, and things like Photomode. It increases a player's attachment to their cars, really. Replace every Premium with car models on par with GT1's (a few hundred polys per car) and it'd tank, no matter how good the physics engine is underneath. All the games' various pieces need to be up to a quality standard; not just the physics, but also not just the graphics.

On-topic: Oh dear, yes, it should be a continuation! The amount of time invested in the Premium cars and new tracks is reason enough, and now that cars are modelled in a much more appropriate way (see above), I really don't see a gigantic need for a large up-tick in model fidelity for the Premiums. Converting select Standards to that level of quality, and continuing to add new cars to the series, while expanding on car customization, is really all I could want from the series. The more (real) tracks, the better, too - I like the rest too, but there's a good chunk of real ones I'd love to drive using GT's physics engine. If the next installment comes on a more powerful system, I'd love to see that extra power used on things like a more detailed physics engine, improved weather systems, and bigger (maybe even multi-class) fields. There's so much that could be added, that even some hypothetical wunder-PS4 could easily be tapped out. GT5 really is a good foundation, even great in certain ways. PD just needs to start building :)

The negative energy about GT5 and what people think of it really makes me feel uncomfortable answering questions like this. I have my own thoughts, but if I had to choose, I'd say "too much invested in GT5 just to throw it all away." I don't think you try to make a brand new experience unless you feel the current title is just an absolute fail. Okay. GT5 has its share of failures and gaps, but what game doesn't? This is really compromising to me, so considering PD's situation, it's better just to improve upon GT5 rather than make a brand-new title. The only exception is if you think you can do things MUCH differently from GT5 to where GT6 feels like a totally different experience, go for it! Do your best. Unless PD feels they've done a disservice to their fans with GT5, just work to make GT6 bigger, better, faster, stronger.

So tab me for "no" with the poll question, but I am not stating that opinion with a severe level of confidence.

You think the physics on standards are better?

Im perfectly OK with this too. But, with Forza4 around the corner, PD might need to step up the graphics a wee bit. No complaining from me though:)

If by stepping up the graphics you mean converting standard cars to premium then I'm ok with your post. If not, please, the last thing PD needs to worry about from the competition is "stepping up the graphics".

It makes me very uncomfortable to see so much post about throwing away all the standards, unless they're upgraded to premium. I just can't believe it. We're talking about hundreds of cars more that we can potentially DRIVE. No, they don't look as good as premiums, but they drive great. Does that even matter to you guys? To be honest, I'm fine with how they look. Perhaps, I'm the minority on that, but unless you zoom them during paused replays, the cars ARE better looking that PS2, and especially PS1 (really?).

We will see...

But, agreed at the same time...they have many other things that need attention first.

Did some searching and your right. Sorry for not confirming my info prior to posting. I thought the "red cover" was.

There's so many things to change in this game or edit or modify in some way... Something tells me it will most definitely be a continuation. Hoping for a real continuation where we can carry over our B-spec drivers, XP levels, money, premium garage, photos, and replays, and also liscense trophies!

These are the things that seem most likely to carry over to GT6, IMO.

I'm also intersted in what they're going to do with the leveling system. I would like to see it taken out of the game - but since it is in GT5 and most likely not going anywhere throughout the series, I hope they really flesh it out and think it through. In GT5 it looks very tacked on and is more of an annoyance rather than a fulfilling achievement system. Most likely they'd raise the level cap - but I'm unsure what they could do to make it inticing enough for casual gamers like me to go for the cap... at level 35, currently I'm all tapped out on leveling. Not very interested in enduros, not very interested in grinding. No real incitives for it. Definitely needs to change in GT6.

As far as the car selection goes, I've thought that PD would rid GT of all the standard cars in GT6. I'm expecting GT6 will have somewhere around 600 premium cars to boot and with a better DLC plan implemented to keep the roster growing and fresh. 5 or 10 new cars every other month isn't unreasonable, and I'd be happy to pay a little extra cash 'em - if they're interesting and not weird, obtuse selections or another gigantic variety of Skylines and the like. Their team is growing and this can only mean that GT6 will be a huge, mega title to see the PS3 out - just like GT4 on PS2. That of course is very exciting.

With all that being said, PS3 is on a roll and I doubt Sony is going to give it up now that it's becoming more affordable and also still competitive and able to evolve in competition. Blu-Ray is becoming the perferred disc media and 3D media is also catching on and the PS3 can do a lot with that still. I'm waiting on a PS3 Eye 3D game... I think that would rock the market. Oh yeah, and Sony is pumping out more fitness based games to compete with Wii Sports and I think there is still a lot left to improve in that area too. PS3 is a solid system and I think its here to stay for a few more years at least and if PS4 is on the way... I'm sure we'll know all about it as Sony would market the **** out of it.
