I've been hearing a lot of hate/praise for the Used Car Database from alot of other GT5 enthusiasts, some love it, and some want to get rid of it, and have the ability to buy whatever they want, whenever. So I just wanted to hear what GTP community thought about it.

What aspects of it do you want us to discuss? There are many positives and negatives. It would also help if you gave your own thoughts as well.

that's why I put the "other" options as choices, and I didn't put my own opinion, to avoid some bias.

I put yes, because if you can buy any car you want in the NCD, you can surely do that with the UCD.

I think its good as it is, yeah i would like to buy whatever whenever (cycling ucd can be boring) but i think it makes the game interesting. If they did change it, everything in the ucd could be available at twice the price or for any car over 10 million it would be 20 million. Just my thoughts, overall i think they should just leave it as it is and focus on other stuff.

It would be much better if it was set up like it was in GT4. Including putting the prices back to what they were in GT4.

I'd just like to be able to purchase multiple cars at once, without having to re-enter the ucd after every purchase. Dealer and ocd as well.

I really like how it cycles, and you look forward to being able to get that car. All the best things come to those who wait!

I liked the UCD from GT4 alot more...

It had 4 UCD (I think) with the same amount of cars but each UCD was from a specific decade.

This I would like to not re-enter everytime for or to buy another car

I agree, it made much more sense in GT4, especially with the specific decades, i would prefer that to the current system.

Urgh, my memory fails me..............how was the UCD different in GT4?

Agreed, that is so annoying :ouch: Even if they could make it so you can purchase a car in the UCD (or NCD) as a car ticket, which gets sent to the car delivery menu and you're allowed to continue "shopping". Then when you're done you can process all you're purchases at once into your garage.

On the topic, I like the UCD the way it is. I disagreed with standards being in the game in the first place, so I sort of like that they're not treated with the same "glory" as the premiums by having them all available to buy at any one time. Plus, it makes your game a little more personalised - even though everyone's game will cycle through one of the same two master lists, it's still going to produce a good variety in garage contents, which is nice community wise. Although I can understand that if there's just one specific standard car you're looking for, it must be a frustrating system.

Hopefully this whole standard model/UCD malarkey won't be an issue for anyone come GT6, because there'll be no standards in sight by then..........hopefully..........

I agree with Tornado in this one. GT4 used car dealers were much better... 2 dealers according with the car era, better description and all.

The used car dealers was present since day 1 in GT games. If they remove it, it'll be a BIG, ENORMOUS FAILURE.

The game will lost 30% of its appeal, because it'll be just like the other games. Buying an used car, its a process that have a lot more soul, luck, than buying a new one. GT5 car collectors may agree with me. Finding that special car, in all original colors, its a fun minigame. GT5 won't be the same without that.

For me, the quantity of rare cars in GT5 isn't enough. You don't see a Honda Coupé 9 every week. I bet you can take a year to find one for sale. This is where, I think the dozens of Miatas and Skylines have their reason to exist. As more common cars, they flood the used car dealer, making it tougher to find that special cars. My VW Nardo, My X540 Chaser and my only 1 ZZ-II are special cars for me, because it took a lot of time to find them. I'm playing GT5 since the day of the release, and I only found 2 Chasers in the UCD. I think this is healthy to the game, because it keeps the original format from all GTs and adds value to rare cars.

Those who play GT since the first games, probably don't mind to have to search for rare cars.

You should be able to buy whatever car, but not be able to drive the high PP cars, until you've LEVELED UP.

I think the level thing is specialy screwed on GT5. That could be removed. It's kinda useless since the game level system is flawed. You start the game today, run a Bspec seasonal, and go to level 20 in 1 race. That's bad.

What should work, is to require special licenses to some cars. You wouldn't be able to drive a Group C car unless you got International A license, or Superlicense for F1 cars for example.

I think the Used car lot is fine in GT5, I've never thought of it as something needing changes.

If we could at least "hire" someone to dig through and give us an indicator when a car comes in we want, that'd be nice.
(In other words, tell the salesmen to watch out for something you want, because you're willing to pay top dollar for it, which we already do)

Yeah, TDU have this feature. If a car isn't available, you can "reserve" it, and the game tells you when the car is available.

Why?
It's not like it takes skill to level up in this game, so what's the point?

If they actually made you become a better and better driver to level up, I'd agree, but they don't.

The people who want all the cars to be avaliable are those who don't realise how badly it would ruin the element of collection. Returning to my UCD after every online session is something I really enjoy, and would miss if it were to dissapear.

It's a "USED CAR DEALERSHIP" you shouldn't be able to buy whatever you want, only what they have in stock.
When was the last time a used car salesmen told you that he couldn't sell you the car, because it was illegal to sell anyone lower then level 24 this car? :p

If we're talking video game, anything is fair play. If we're talking realism, having the UCD salesmen your best buddy only makes sense. ;)

When have you ever seen a ucd have any and every car you wanted in stock.

Walk into your nearest Chevy dealer and ask for a brand new, 0-mile, never-even-sat-in 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. Then get back to me regarding why I should care how "authentic" the UCD is.

I don't even particularly agree with the idea, but appeal to realism is an absolutely terrible excuse to defend what could be argued to be poor game design. Especially when the UCD/game economy is as much of a mess as it currently is.

Well, you usually only can buy what the UCD have for sale. The thing is, in GT4, the stock changed at every 7 days, if i'm not mistaken. In GT5, that changes everyday...

And there's some wrong things. I agree with Toronado again, any older car should be able to buy ONLY in the used car dealers. As the Bugatti Veyron, is sold as a brand new car, in the used dealer. That's wrong too.

I think it's fine. Although it is frustrating that the ratio of expensive to cheap seems to vary so much. At times there's tons of expensive cars and I can't buy them all, then I go forever without seeing one multimillion dollar car.
