well, NOS isn't really what is hated. NOS stands for things that I find completely retarded:

1) putting a bunch of stickers on your car (or body kits, neon, a fart cannon, a 6' tall wing, etc) and thinking that makes you fast. It doesn't, it makes you look retarded to 99% of the population.

2) people with more money than sense that mod their car the WRONG way (put in NOS or a huge turbo without upgrading engine internals). Hmmm, I wonder why there's oil in my coolant now???

3) cutting the springs on your car because you can't afford to buy a lowering suspension. - gives you that bone-jarring "I only have 1/8th inch of suspension travel" feeling while simultaneously diminishing your car's handling ability.

4) All of the above sitting next to me at a stoplight, fart cannon firing, bling bling blinging, doesn't need tinted windows because he's got too many stickers...and he wants to race. I always invite these people to show up for a track event where we can go at it safely and legally. You know, trying to hit an apex instead of trying not to hit some old lady crossing the street?

Why do I associate all this with NOS? could be it was F&F movie, could be its the fact that every ricer has atleast 4 NOS stickers (I think it's a rule or something)...the point is NOS is associated with gheyness. NFS:U2 and the commercials out for that game right now don't help things any.

Now, notice from my sig that I drive a car that has several rice aspects: huge tip on my muffler, 3' high wing on the back...but I think that looks like ass on my car and any other. I will gladly trade decklids with anyone who has a 2.5rs (black) just to get rid of the wing.

Bottom line is NOS or nitrous or whatever you want to call it evokes negative feelings because of what it is associated with being retarded, not because it is retarded.

Finally, I fell in love with the GT series because it was the most realistic racing game I had ever played. I wouldn't have cared if I only got to drive a pontiac aztec and a geo metro in the game, so long as it felt real. I could care less if they took out 99 of the 100 subaru imprezas in the game. I didn't drive a single honda or nissan in gt3 when I didn't have to, and I won't in GT4 either.

They are the ricers you guys are referring to? Not one of my friends or import fans I know has a NOS sticker, cut springs(h&r,eibach,tein only) or big spoilers. There are guys with Greddy exhausts(and yes, some"fart cannons" )though. Where I live(oregon), there are people who do those things, but they are people from certain neighborhoods(I'm not going to clarify) 99% of the time.

My previous car(no sti) had an spoiler too and I bought an new car(still no sti) without spoiler, so I agree with you there. I've told people that if I could afford evo or sti, I'd take off the rear spoiler. My friend has an RS, but it's 2000 and wrong color.

I appreciate the reply, I really do. It's just that I am Japanese, and I can't help it but to take offense to "rice" remarks. Some nice Chinese guy was putting stop to people referring to Japanese as Japanese in another thread, which I really appreciated. Well, personally, I'd take more offense in "rice-whores" than a "Japanese". Also, I think there are way too many name callings in forums(anywhere), and wish people would tone it down little bit. But if you wish not to, it's not the end of the world!

Exactly. Why this fails to register with people who keep making the same statements about N20 being "rice" or for "non-racers" is beyond me. People who are FOR N20 in the game are just as "anti-rice"/F&F/NFS:U as those who arn't, it's just that we're more educated about the modification.

I have seen several well informed posts about nitrous on this thread, yet the facts contained in these posts repeatedly get ignored in favor of some kid (which you undoubtedly must be, to have such a narrow understanding of the system and it's uses) spouting off their favorite anti-NOS chant they heard somebody else yell, without even knowing what the hell they're talking about.

If all you know about nitrous is what you've seen in the movies or in videogames, then you need to take yourself out of this debate. I have yet to see a statement putting down N20 by ANYONE who has a working knowledge of nitrous. I have a feeling most of you people spewing off crap about the inclusion of nitrous wouldn't know a N20 system if I slapped you upside the head with the bottle itself (which is actually sounding more and more like a good idea every minute). 💡

A6M5: I apologize for using the term "rice" - I know the excuse that "its what everybody uses" is a bad one - maybe we should use the term "$20 tuners" instead since these people usually spend about that much tuning their entire car to make it look fast without actually being fast. Also, I've seen more and more american cars being $20 tuned, so the association with japanese cars is timid at best.

The STi doesn't (or didn't...there might be one now) have a "wing delete" option when I bought my car. If there was, I would have checked the box. If I take it off now I have 7 beautiful, water-leaking holes in my trunk. I would have bought the evo which has a delete option (although I probably would have kept the wing since it is functional on the evo), but Mitsubishi's current financial status made me think twice about where I could get warrany work done in a couple of years - there were rumors that they were going to pull out of the North American market.

I hear you about the Mitsu's status, did you know they were in a major "recall" scandal in Japan? From what I've heard, there were accident deaths due to MMC covering up recalls. It's pretty bad....

The game will have engine and component failures. So Nitrous will not be some way of superpowering the car. It's available in real life, so it should be an option in the game.

Additionally, if they want to accurately portray Drifting, they need NOS. Several of the top cars in D1GP run NOS.

Gran Turismo is known as "the real driving simulator" and i guess NOS is part of driving whether it be street racing or whatever. Also if they dont expand the Gran turismo forumula the game will become stagnated. Thats why they added rally etc - cant just keep on addding new tracks and more cars as in my opinion it would get repetitve quite quickly - Gran Turismo needs updates and this is one of them

Keeping nitrous out of some cars or series is fine (like JGTC championsips or whatever), but the more stuff you can put in your car in the game that can be aquired in real life, the better. I think a lot of GT time people spend is just playing with one car, comparing lap times, etc... each race series has its own rules, and you can leave out whatever mods you want there. Its like the difference between an open track day and a sanctioned race event.

How about Nitromethane? How about you should be able to pay a rediculous amount money for fuel costs & the modifications required (as well as the gas mask for your driver), and convert your car to nitromethane. Scream down the back straight on the ring, a trail of flame out the back, and 3000HP on tap! woo hoo!

maybe thats taking it a bit too far ... but everyone who is talking about nitrous being cheap, cheating, unrealistic in circuit racing, etc - need to keep one thing in mind.

A turbo...sure. Racing fuels to improve the performance...uh huh. Better coolants and fluids to decrease friction and heat, to improve efficiency...yeah, why not? But a gas to make the car perform better in a straight line...no way!
Alright, all that was sarcasm. I really don't have a position on this topic, but I do feel that real cars don't need performance hop-ups and such. Then again, it's nice to have them, like a turbo on an RX-7, or nitrous oxide on a Lingenfelter Vette. They don't need it, but it's nice to have.

Nitrous (and nitromethane gasoline) is not allowed in circuit racing because it is too dangerous. It explodes when rear-ended...it's like a bomb going off in the trunk of your car. take a look AT THIS LINK IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME .

The GT series isn't perfectly realistic - there's no damage, no reliability issues, and simplified car tuning, but all these things are slowly marching TOWARDS being more realistic. If you let people race with nitrous you are making it LESS realistic, so it's a step in the wrong direction.

So, as I have said before - Nitrous is fine for drag racing, pikes peak hillclimb, and other forms of racing where they actually have nitrous in real life. If you want to do time trials with nitrous in your car, I'm all for it. But there are very few roadracing sanctioning bodies that allow nitrous in competitive racing (more than 1 car on track)

I wanted to bump this topic back up since NOS or nitrous has been CONFIRMED in GT4. I, for one, am not too fund of this and I feel like it is going to mess up the entire game if it isn't limited to drag. It will take away all the fun from doing realistic tuning and everything. And lets not mention the fact that the AI is easy enough to beat without NOS. 👎

some forms of racing allow for NOS to be used. so dont be suprized. it will most likely be confined to drag racing and that type of racing i cant remember. Everyone thinks that NOS=RICE. if you read the other posts on the thread you will see that is not always the case. SOme people even look down on turbo or supercharged cars as being a shortcut over good engineering. I dunno. Dont worry... gt4 wont be need for speed underground if that's what you all are afraid of.
