Should there be license tests for WRC, NASCAR and online racing?

  • There shouldn't be any licenses at all in the game. They're annoying.

  • NASCAR should have a license exam, but not WRC or online.

  • There should be a license exam for WRC racing only. It's more tricky.

  • There should only be a license exam for online racing. It's most needed there.

As I take a look back at Gran Turismo 4, there is no license requirement to participate in special condition events.

But because WRC and NASCAR are going to be a big part of the game (supposedly), does it not make sense to have to pass a WRC license exam and also a NASCAR license? (for those who know little about both).

And what about a license exam to race online? Is that pushing the boundaries?

What to expect on an internet race with cars moving all over the place.

You forgot to add the choice for licence tests for all.

That would be a great thing IMO that to have Licence tests before going online but not for all of the events. If GT5P events systems make it's way into GT5, I would like to have licence tests for the expert events, question to separate the men from the boys, the serious racers from the annoying ones, or the punters from the clean racers.

As for WRC, specific licence tests are a must because driving on dirt and driving on asphalt is a very different world.

And NASCAR should too have it's own licence tests, because as some people might think, there is a whole lot to it than turning in circles. Slipstream, racing in group, different types of ovals... (Bristol, Daytona)

I didn't make it clear, but all the choices except the first already have the normal licenses in mind. The question asks should there be licenses for the other three. Now, if you choose the last one, you're saying I just want the normal ones.

That explains it. No?

I could not vote in this poll guess cause im new or something. I would like to see license test for both nascar and wrc.

I liked in GT3 how special conditions events had a particular license. I think it would be good to have this again since NASCAR and WRC will both be significantly different style of driving from the rest of the game. In GT4 they sort of got rid of that, and Special Conditions tests were interspersed throughout the regular ones. I didn't like this as much because if I wanted to brush up on my rallying, I had to go searching for all the rally tests and work on them.

I think maybe, not an online license, but an online placement test, sort of what LIL_KACHING is saying. Something to make it so I don't have to race the ridiculously good drivers who will destroy me every time, but something so that I will not have to race newbs either... and especially not sabateurs who would stop at nothing short of running us honest drivers off the road...

I can't imagine there won't be some sort of online ranking system, but I am interested to see how it is implemented.

I think Nascar licenses should be more about the flags and such if they are implemented, the wrc ones about the proper use of handbrake and such, but i don't think it should be a requirement to drive in the races, just an extra if you want to learn and get better at it, as for online, all I think is that there should be some images illustrating proper driving and things that should and should not be done and things regarding driving courtesy.

I think he was asking for an option that included all the current licenses, plus one for WRC, NASCAR, and Online.

EDIT

sorry for the double post, I got ahead of myself

I'm assuming they'll make some of the challenges from GT5P into license tests. They'll just integrate them into the current license types. They had a couple for drafting challenges didn't they? As for rally, I doubt they'll add anything.

i think there should be a n exam for wrc as well as nascar e.g hand brake turn scandinavian flick etc. providing they fix the hand brake in GT5:crazy:

There needs to be licenses for all because of the different flags and overtaking methods in each motorsport. The methods for the types of racing specific to those motorsports don't nec. matter though. People will pick up on it the more they play (Ex. Drafting in Nascar.) I don't want to race with 15 different Carl Edwards either... Maybe something similar to iRacing but less redundant. And by redundant, I mean stupid safety flags. Seeing as how off track penalties are pointless unless your skipping a section of track. Honestly, I don't care though as long as they can hurry up and release the game. :)

Hmm GT4 had the "dirt and snow" tests. So i'd expect something similar.

Maybe a 'basics of oval driving' or 'Competition offroad'
Either way I'm not fussed

EDIT:
Love the no licences option :)

I think there should be licence tests that at least cover each racing code. Though I did like it in GT3 when there was a specialised rallying licence.

Licenses all the way... and hard as they can (specially the online one)

^^^ Yeah, and make it so you can lose a license for bad driving online

There should be license test for Nascar an Wrc, in this way, we`ll avoid people who doesnt know to run at ovals.

 I don't mean to offend fans of NASCAR but all you do is go straight on and left.. Not really much to learn or need a license for. Apart from learning the right race line on banked corners but that ain't rocket science.

As for WRC that's a ball of fun I don't see how we'd need training or licence tests for that either. All you do is drive flat out through a forest or a skinny road and do handbrake slides around sharp corners. "35 left, caution rocks at side, 5 left, 5 right straight ahead, 15 left, 16 right, water splash" No different to say.. driving an old car around a farm paddock.

Oh and as for online, no license there either but huge penalties for all the idiots that enjoy ramming into the back of you while you're trying to brake for a corner etc..

WRC and NASCAR could be integrated into the existing licence format for all i care, but online should in my opinion definitly have some events ( or all of them if i were in control ) which require licences to show you've made an effort at least and have a basic understanding of driving.

They could include a section in the licence tests were you'll be taught the code of conduct and meaning of flags, etc. of online racing.
And i liked the suggestion of penalty, someone made, whereby if you continually break the rules you're licence will be taken away and you'll be forced to do the licence tests again.

To seperate the men from the boys ( or skilled from unskilled ) some online events could possibly only be entered if you have all gold or silver at least.

This seems like a two-part idea so here's my take:

But because WRC and NASCAR are going to be a big part of the game (supposedly), does it not make sense to have to pass a WRC license exam and also a NASCAR license? (for those who know little about both).

I wouldn't mind this at all:tup: This would add some authenticity and hell while your at it, throw in Super GT since that too is an Offcial championship

And what about a license exam to race online? Is that pushing the boundaries?

This I don't like:tdown: Why do I need a permit from a game to race online? I've already had quite alot of races against some friends and they can verify enough that I race them clean. Just blacklist the idiots playing bumper cars.

There should be licenses for NASCAR and WRC, but I don't really see the point of a license for online racing. It doesn't make much sense to me, but I do agree with analog's idea of "some online events could possibly only be entered if you have all gold or silver at least".

As far as this goes:

The same could be said about everything. I don't need a license to drive through Nürburgring either, as if it was rocket science to go from left to right, and vice versa. But most people do to learn how to drive in it efficiently, as in an oval. It's not as easy as it seems, and if it is, then why don't you race stock cars for a living?

I think we should get the usual, B/A/IB/IA/S

Then a seperate other license each for WRC and NASCAR.

The nature of the online is not yet clear, whether it will be linked to GTmode or not. If it is, I think for some of the later races licenses must be required. But there should be some beginner races to play that don't require licenses too.

I don't like the idea that complete beginners can just enter into the toughest online races. Its a very simple way of sorting out the skilled drivers from the unskilled. And as in past GT games, it is also a very efficient learning tool. So yes, there should be license requirements for online. Maybe even all silver/all gold requirements for the hardest races? Maybe that is going a bit too far.

No, I guess we can stay as we are now. The usual licenses are enough to test the skill of the players on the GT mode. There's no need for WRC or Nascar licenses, because the standard ones will certainly contain some tests featuring both Nascar and WRC.

I see your point when it comes to racing online, I certainly wouldn't like to race GTP_DHolland, spyrrari and many others, a online skill rating would be more interesting, basically using the very same idea of Weekly Racing Series, you do some time attack laps in different conditions and then you're awarded with a rating, as you achieve victories your rating increase slightly. Then you can see the ratings of the other players and decide to allow or deny their participation in an event hosted by you, for example.

Also, the license tests will certainly be bigger, we have night racing and rain, so there's much more to test the drivers. :D

I did not vote on the poll but I do agree "License test ALL" is a must!

I could make another poll, but if you pick the last option, you're saying there should be no other licenses except for the usual ones. If you pick the first, you don't care for any. And if you pick any other option, take into account the normal ones will remain (along with the new license(s) that you'd like to see).

WTF? Are you saying Nascar is driving full throttle and permanent driving?
You are wrong a lot. Every oval requires a different technic.
Just Daytona and Talladega is full throttle cuz the cars has the restrictor plate, wihtout restictor, these car can run at 360km/h (215 mph) and would be a risk for the drivers and the public.

You dont offend me, just ,many people has a wrong conception about Nascar.

WRC, and NASCAR should have separate License tests. Also so should ever class in the game. Example

F1 cars should have their own Tests. (about 8-12)
Le mans Cars
Rally, WRC
NASCAR
DTM/Super V8/Super GT
Smaller Race cars (Race Car Civics, Fiats, etc)
Sports cars
Street cars.

I think this is a great idea, seen as though GT5 is bringing in a more official and robust racing series area to the series I believe that tests to teach us the proper ways to execute advanced racing techniques. Maybe even something to help players learn a good racing strategy (pits, tyre choice and fuel) :)

GT3 had separate rally license tests.
