Should there be license tests for WRC, NASCAR and online racing?

  • There shouldn't be any licenses at all in the game. They're annoying.

  • NASCAR should have a license exam, but not WRC or online.

  • There should be a license exam for WRC racing only. It's more tricky.

  • There should only be a license exam for online racing. It's most needed there.

  • There should be licenses for both NASCAR and WRC races, but not for online racing.

See, that's all well and good.... but, it's still a game. What would the "appeals process" be if you accidentally crash or cause mayhem or you're an fair but aggressive driver anyway so you tend to create accidents while making an aggressive move, would you always be subject to this "mark" or would it go away?

I don't think that systems works as well as penalties in motorsports go because there's going to be no moderation except for your self imposed moderation to a lobby.

Games are supposed to be fun, license test for the most part aren't fun.

Although I disagree with your previous post, as I do think a licence acquired offline could be a barrier, although not a guarantee, to exclude a lot of punters or at least include only those who've made an effort in some public online races, which could be a requirement set for a certain amount of pro-level races.
But I do agree with the post above as I don't believe in a marking system which could indeed turn out to be unfair and not clear what is being judged and how and it's indeed still a game, not expected to feature a virtual legal system.
Besides even when someone would intentionally cheat and drive people into a barrier, they could ( hypothetically I'm afraid ) change their attitude later on and a marking system would deny them a second chance.
I hope the licence tests do include some basic instruction of online etiquette or rules and feature all aspects of different racing series into one series of tests, no need in my opinon to create a separate licence test series for each racing series, and I do hope some online events will require a licence test.

I voted for WRC only but I still would like all the old B/A/IB/IA and Super tests too. I can't imagine needing anything for Nascar or online that the normal tests wouldn't teach you.
I mean really what would online be...online car racing etiquette? Wont help stop the people who will behave poorly, just will annoy the rest of us.

I think "honor system" online is probably the way to go, to be honest. It's too hard to police and, considering how the game is set up, I'm sure the first months of it will be hell like any online game before it settles with proper players.

I already have people lined up to race with. "Random punters" are something I'm trying to avoid anyway.

Speak for yourself mate

I voted for the "There should only be a license exam for online racing. It's most needed there." In addition to the normal licenses we've come to expect. (maybe add that option to the poll?)

I think there should be the normal liecences however like in gt3 there should be the rally liecense's aswell. In online I would hope there could be a rating system to weed out bad drivers so u could set a minimum rating to enter certain races.

I always loved the license test (I'm must love suffering in some ways). It provides you with nice tips on how to correctly take a corner with different kind of cars, from rally cars to FR, FF and MR cars, it really teaches some players to drive properly. Of course, the ones that don't complete the licenses usually don't last long in the game, because if you can't complete a license by trying it over and over, how are you going to last in a race where you do the same kind of stuff over and over again (I know, it's not exactly the same, but you see my point)

There should be a license for online, but under the form of the normal licenses.

If for example you want to drive in an F1 race online, you will need the S license to enter it. That would provide a nice alternative to the "online" license

:).

What do you think about a feedback system. Like eBay let say. A plus minus or neutral after the race. Then have the option to only let a certain feedback score in your race.

For me, the more licences the better. So I welcome new challenges. I would certainly like to see a return of the stand alone rally license.

But an honour system is basically an opposite penalty system, which indeed might be just as potentially unfair and unclear to police.
Still think a ( mandatory ) licence acquired offline to unlock certain events ( in the same way as in all previous GT games ) could simply be applied to some online-events as well.
Private lobbies will make this perhaps less relevant but I would hate it if these in time just became closed private clubs where the majority of well-intended drivers went without possibly meeting random people who also have good intentions and good basic driving skills.
I'll suggest to have basic "free for all" public online events ( like the ones in Prologue ) to cater for the "casual gamer", the promised and welcomed by most private online lobbies and a third category, public online events which require a certain amount of licences ( maybe even silver or gold only ) as an "elitist" rank you have to make an effort for to join.

I know they probably won't do it, but I would love to have required license tests before racing online.

That wouldn't help. Feedback systems like that require nearly as much moderation as a simple complaint system, because "that guy beat me in the race" is a perfectly valid reason to neg Rep someone to your typical online troll.

Appeal to history is a fallacy. Without dragging this topic off into oblivion, "because the older games in the series did it" isn't anywhere near proper justification to just leave it the way it is if people have a problem with it. Especially not something implemented the way licence tests are into the GT games.

I see a lot of people in favour of an license test related to online racing specifically, and while I see the point... it'll be as effective as current driver training is in North America. People can force themselves to uphold a certain standard if there's a reward, but revert to bad habits once they've acquired it. Someone getting their OLR license doesn't erase the chance of them being the type to stuff you into the guard rail on Turn 1; it might minimize it, sure, but it's mostly just a study in some offline restraint for a few tests.

Yeah but I figured maybe somehow take their voting history into account. If their history looks like only losers pouting giving out only negative scores void them. Seems like they could put in a set a voter parameters to make sure the lousy people didn't bring everyone down. Sure a few would slip through...

Maybe even something like instead of giving a penalty for contact have the game count and average your time in the grass, your minor car to car bumps, Your major car to car contacts, and car to wall collisions per race. Giving you a racer score then a detailed breakdown of what type of things you have done (example 5.3 major car to car collisions per race). Then have filters to weed out the stuff you want to keep away from your lobby

We have one of the best systems already set up to sort the wheat from the chaff anyways; right here, GTPlanet.

If you race someone who's a good courteous racer who isn't from here, message them and thank them for a good race. Add as a friend or something. Invite them to race with other like-minded individuals. Ta-da!

I like this idea. They could make a system that would 'weight' your vote based on what your average rating for other players is.

For example, lets say it is a 5 star system, the more stars the better. Lets say I give most people the benefit of the doubt and give them 5 stars unless they punt or wall ride or some other such nonsense. When I give you 1 star, that is especially detrimental to your rating because it means you must have really done something catastrophic.

Oscar the Grouch Troll usually gives people 1 star, because they always beat him, and he is a sore loser. If he gives you the same 1 star, it doesn't really mean anything because he always gives low ratings.

That is an extreme case, but something like that might solve the problem.

I think they should keep the B/A/iB/iA/S license, as well as have another license for special series (WRC, Nascar, Go Karts). I don't think they would have a separate license for each, because that's too much. If they don't implement the special racing series into the licenses, I would expect them to do so in missions or challenges, as an introduction to each. They need to explain to people that are unfamiliar with the types of racing, how things work. Go karts handle differently, NASCAR has flag rules and heavy traffic at high speeds, and lots of drafting, and WRC has all kinds of surfaces and techniques that are required.

Online doesn't need a license. It's not fair to people that just wanna hop in and race here and there. I expect expert events to require a license, because of the calibre of the events and driver skill. That would eliminate the cutters and crashers easily.

WRC and NASCAR licenses would make perfect sense, but an ONLINE license??? Seriously, just...no.

i dont know if the WRC one should be manditory, maybe more of a lesson than anything, and the nascar one should be to teach techniques, like bump brafting, properly slowing for pit road, etc., as for online racing, i would love to not have to race people who cant drive, but then, that cant be avoided, lol

In GT3 there was the rally license. I liked that because when I wanted to work on my rally skills, I could just go there and have a bunch of tests where I could just run corners over and over again, (hopefully) getting closer to perfection each time. In GT4, I had to go search through the rest of the license tests ti find the rally ones. I know its not a huge time saved or wasted, but it was convenient.

Besides, its not like you would go to enter a race at a road course and then be turned away because you weren't a good enough rally driver.

I also like the idea that has been said a few times where online could be similar to how career mode has been in the previous games: A fair number of events could be entered without licenses, and others (usually more difficult, prestigious, etc) did require specific licenses. Maybe we don't need as many online licenses, maybe just an OLA and OLB (Online A and Online B).
