Should there be license tests for WRC, NASCAR and online racing?

  • There shouldn't be any licenses at all in the game. They're annoying.

  • NASCAR should have a license exam, but not WRC or online.

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • There should be a license exam for WRC racing only. It's more tricky.

  • There should only be a license exam for online racing. It's most needed there.

    Votes: 38 21.5%
  • There should be licenses for both NASCAR and WRC races, but not for online racing.

  • I think they should just keep the usual licenses:B/A/IB/IA and Super

In my opinion every different type of racing deserves it's own license test, but that was not one of the poll choices.:sly:

There were already tests of a sort in past GT games for basically the same thing. GT4 had various rallying tests integrated into the normal licences (and GT3 had the separate Rally Licence), and GT4 also had the drafting races integrated in the Mission Hall. There is no need for WRC-specific tests because the normal rally tests would do the same thing, and there is no need for the NASCAR tests because NASCAR racing isn't different enough from "normal" racing that they are necessary.

What I find more curious is that the poll option with the most votes is the one that advocates even more licence tests than past games, but with no online justification for doing so. Why?

This I don't like:tdown: Why do I need a permit from a game to race online?
That street runs both ways. Why do I need a permit from a game to race offline, where I won't be bothering anyone else?

There is a tutorial mode or something for Nascar, according to an interview
A good idea since there will full rule implementation, flags and what not

A license test for proper race conduct, correct passing and race awareness etc should be implemented...

Not sure why my really old post was quoted, but exactly where does this imply a permit to race offline? I was under the impression it was only a permit to drive certain cars offline. The suggestion to attain a license in order to race online isn't the same.

I think there should be a rally school.Just like the first Colin Mcrae Rally game.Don't need licence tests, for Nascar just a tutorial allowing you to try different techniques. Also could allow you, to race a mock Nascar race before entering the championship. No licence tests for online races, we didn't need them before so don't need them now.

S & S.

I don't think there should be licences to race online. instead there should be a tagging system where players who play with cars like bumper cars should be tagged with negative signs and people who do clean laps tagged with positive signs. Then online races can be setup to allow only players with positive rating allowed in to race

I think online requires a licence to complete just to raise the minimum skill level to an acceptable level.

I voted to have a license test for all three. However, the online test should not be required before accessing online, but it will prevent that person from accessing a good portion of the online races.

They will eventually take the test.

Also, if that test is made. Hopefully it focuses on how to drive close to cars, etiquette, flags, strategy, etc. It will reduce the number of punters, but of course will not eliminate it.

FACT: If I want to race in WRC i need a rally license
FACT: If I want to race in F1 i need a super license
PROBABLE FACT: If I want to race in NASCAR I need a nascar(?) license.. not too sure about americian racing.

So to access the rally events you should need a rally license, for the formula events a open wheel license (probably lower formiula cars and karts), for rally I need a rally license.

Online is stupid, you can't block off a whole section of the game for the lazy. Sure it will stop the idiots for a while, but it wont stop the people who can pass it but then just screw around online, and it will stop those who are just crap but can drive.

One thing I know about license tests are that they are hard in teh game. So make it like that and I'll be happy.

I didn't play GT4, but in GT3 there was a rally license for the rally events

The WRC/rally licences should be separated out, as they used to be. Then put some NASCAR test in the main body of licences. I think a players online penalties to online race ratio should be used to group like minded racers together in the open/public lobbies.

Since when is WRC and NASCAR going to be a big part of the game? And why?

I'd say it depends on the depth of each aspect.

If NASCAR has spotters and official rules, then yes you need a crash course to learn them as well as propper pitting (like in Nascar Racing 2003).

If WRC has co-driver, then you need lessons on understanding pacenotes, with visual aid then with none, and how to negotiate different grip levels and elevation changes.

But if it doesnt have those features it would be kind of pointless to learn all the NASCAR rules and all the Rally pacenote basics.

the poll is a bit flawed i feel as there is the possibility that licenses for all three aspects in question, being on line racing, wrc and nascar, are necessary to fully appreciate what the gamer is about to embark on. why is there not an option for all three, or have i missed something? regardless of the other two, i think a license for online is probably the most important as it basically directs the kind of racer you want to be against other real racers. fail and you know what you need to work on, succeed and you know what to expect. making people earn online racing will just enhance the experience for everyone.

"There should be licenses for both NASCAR and WRC races, but not for online racing."
The WRC should have it own licence test (10 or more, licence tests). NASCAR should be between B and A international (3 or 4 challenges)

In NASCAR:
- driving behind safety car
- drafting
- passing the corners with high speed
In WRC:
- several challenges relating to passes, tight and wide turns,
- skid park (180 turn, using handbrake)
- driving on different surfaces (asphalt, gravel, dirt, snow and rain maybe)

I wholeheartedy agree with text included in quotation above.

I do agree with having that. it would be like the driving school in NR2003 or the Rally school in RBR.

I say just have a WRC license. GT3 had a Rally License, it should return to GT5. I'd love it.

Poll should be multiple choice, in fact the poll doesn't give you that much choice at all...

I KNOW we need liscenes for online! I can't drive with 6 year old's and 10 year old's trying to be impressive, I want to race, RACE STRICT.

I think we need liscenes for everything except NASCAR, which is a fictional sport, at least thats what they say here in Molvania

Its why I didn't even vote.

Whats wrong with just having private rooms with people you know you can trust?

After what I saw today (and the past three years for that matter), I think Montreal would disagree.

I put in for licenses for WRC and NASCAR;
WRC will be very difficult with the new damage engine (or any dirt track or test, for that matter) so I think a license is needed to practice and to show you how to do the driving right (no more wallriding).
NASCAR is from a similar standpoint, the damage engine will be a factor in the turns and braking. I can't could how many times I've been run into from behind entering the pits in the online mode for NASCAR 09. The tests need to incorporate the braking, the turns, and the speed limit on pit road.

No license test for all option?? 👎

FACT: None of that has any basis for this discussion, because GT5 is a game.

A good leaderboard/ranking system would accomplish the same thing.

Maybe, a system that takes into account our progres in the licenses, and a program for counting number of mishaps in the online race. I do not know, maybe a program which counts number of caused yellow flags, or deliberate crashes on the track. There must be something! Nobody wants to race with a kid who makes crashes only for their own fun.
Clean drivers should have some mark/symbol next to their nickname. And a different color depending on personal driving style.
This is some of my examples.

more license tests = more fun

I have a other question
in GT 5 there are 2 times more cars then in gt 4 and in gt5 are much more tracks
my question is will we need 2 times more time to finish the game ( 100%)
I saw something on a german site and there they said that GT5 will not have 2 times more time to finsih the game , they said that the "fun" is more important in gt5

I personally want that we need 2 times more to finish gt5 ( PLS MR Kaz )

ps: I don't really like the voting
because , example : if i want to vote for online+nascar+wrc+("normal license test" ) i can't vote because i can't find this option there
There should be ALL options
"
ps: Tagger , "I did not vote in the poll because my position is not represented in the poll choices. " exactly that what i wanted to say

I would prefer to see license testing for online, WRC, and NASCAR events in addition to the licensing tests we've seen in past releases of the GT series. I prefer this not because I think it is going to weed out poor drivers from online events. I want more licensing tests simply for the sake of having more game content. Although tough licenses can be frustrating, they provide a sense of accomplishment (to me at least).

I did not vote in the poll because my position is not represented in the poll choices.

WRC and NASCAR definitely, even if it's a short course to build fundamentals of each race type.

No for online, because you should be restricted by online options, not what licences you acquire in a single player game.

Some sort of ranking system would work better for online than licenses. But a tutorial for online conduct would be great!

More on the lines of that above instead!
