I bought a new iPad today. Regular model (not Air or Pro), 256gb, yellow back. I’ve been using the same Air 2 for eight years. It barely takes a charge, the screen is badly cracked, and it no longer takes the latest iOS. It was time to replace it.

Since my current laptop is from 2010, I decided to upgrade.

Dell Inspiron 16.0" 2-in1 OLED Touch, 13th Gen Intel Evo i7, 16GB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce MX550, 1TB SSD
Those are some good product duration there, especially for computers.

Jezza what was you previous computer, if you don’t mind?

New Foo Fighters Premium pinball machine. Just arrived today. :D

Some upgrades for my Guns 'n Roses LE. 2 sets of 6 carbon balls, flipper rebuild kit, full set of Titan bands and a much sturdier spotlight upgrade kit to fix a common issue with these machines. The PC just off to the right is also new (it replaces my 2009 HP Pavilion).

Both machines in their forever homes now, and in the foreground in amongst all the mess on the table is a pile of metal signs my wife bought on the weekend at a local shops closing down sale.

The pile closer up... with my pre-race Bloody Mary in the foreground, all set to watch the Supercars.

The kid has been itching to build a computer so I helped him pick out the parts and got them ordered today.

To my surprise, Prime Day had gen 5 Ryzen on deep discounts. I nabbed a 5900X to replace my trusty 1700X. Miraculously, AMD released a microcode update for their old chipsets with their final AM4 update, and by the grace of God, Asus used that to support the 5900X on my Crosshair VI Hero built around the ancient X370.

I understand now why AMD's Zen 4 release on AM5 wasn't the smash hit that the rest of Ryzen was. The AM4 socket is the stuff of legend. Buying a really expensive and well-supported mobo turned out to be a blessing. I may get more than 10 years out of a single build with this CPU upgrade.

Finally pulled the trigger on the new GPU.

Should've technically had it yesterday, but I didn't realize I had to sign for the delivery and missed the FedEx driver. :dunce:

Also picked up an iFixIt Mako tool set so I have my own equipment to work on my PC (plus other miscellaneous things), and another Crucial MX500 since the 1TB unit I bought when first built my rig is getting close to capacity.

Smells nice. Like the grit they put in it.

I bought a selection of bars from them, along with the limited Star Wars box collection they did for a friends birthday.

I found them to be quite weak in scent, however I did like the grit / sand they put in. At first I thought the poor smell was just the batch of one bar, but after 6 bars of different scents I concluded they’re just weak in smell. After you’re rinsed off you just smell like soap and nothing else. Not like their promotional materials would have people believe.

I've converted my living room into a gaming/home cinema room. I had a Dolby 5.1/DVD set up when they first came out back in 1997 but got rid of it 10 years ago. Went for a Samsung Q990B 11.1.4 with sub & 2 rear speakers.

I wasn't impressed initially, it took me a while to get the best set up but now it's awesome. My XBox SX/wheel is a bit too far forward of the Dolby Atmos sweet spot at the moment but I have to compromise where things sit for now. I spent today fitting blackout curtains to stop that pesky sun from spoiling my viewing pleasure. I haven't asked my neighbours if the sub is too loud. I'm sure they'll let me know if it is

I have that same set-up in my lounge room. I didn't think it would be much of an upgrade over my previous Samsung HW-Q90RXY 7.1.4 Ch Soundbar (that now resides in my main bar/entertaining area) but I was wrong. I love it. I'm glad you found a decent set-up for it so you can fully enjoy it.

Got a Deep Cool FH10 fan hub so I can finally utilize all 7 fans in my PC. Dropped GPU and CPU temps by ~10C at idle compared to just running the front intake and CPU cooler before.

Also picked up a Vessel ball-grip ratcheting screwdriver and Trusco toolbox, both made in Japan.
20230722_161107.jpg

I was between this and a few other ratcheting drivers that had in-handle bit storage, but decided on the Vessel due to the ability for the end to be removed and act as a stubby driver. I'm also planning on picking up some Tone ratchets and wrenches for car maintenance down the line, but this and the iFixit kit should keep me covered for now.

I recently recycled a couple older computer towers, but pulled the SSDs from them. I need to put a couple of them in my current tower, but cannot be bothered to put in the effort.

5x sports undies from Decathlon.
Regular, loose boxers cause me constant wedgies with my work slacks.
These came with 0 packaging and are made domestically.

Well having finished my bottles of Rattler Cider I decided I wanted to try a different brewery and picked up a 12 bottle set of Sanford Cider.

IMG_9762.jpeg

One of each variety they produce.

And I also picked up a bottle of Ice Cider, which is more of a mixer / aperitif than anything else. Has that nice aged flavour of wine or whiskey along with a cider overtone but the aftertaste is a little earthy and not my cup of tea. However it will go lovely as a mixer, what with I’m not sure yet.

It’s new comic book day. I’ve already read She-Hulk (last issue until it gets relaunched as Sensational She-Hulk in two months) and Hellcat (final issue of this little mini-series.)
