Bought a house. :) Took a hot minute, but when you have a fellow gearhead for a wife, we had to find the right place for the cars. ;)

Having our private celebratory toast, we’re congratulated by our first visitor.

Meet, as my wife calls him, “Sack”. Not Zack. Just “Sack”. 🤔

About ten minutes later, we were congratulated by another neighbour of nature, “George”. He was a bushy-tailed fellow(brushtail). Gave a quick “Waddup?!” as he ran across the top of the fence.
Also greeted by a couple, on the bigger side, kookaburras. Having a hearty laugh by the pool.

Crazy hot today 40 degrees C 🥵and the heat will continue through the weekend as we finish moving in. Good stuff!

Got this today!

Go figure, it was packaged in a Dr. Dre case, and the language on the back of the case is so bad, I can't even post it here. Although I have an NTSC copy of the game already that once belonged to my cousin, I've wanted to get a PAL copy lately since it has some interesting differences, including music tracks not present on the NTSC version, just to provide a slightly different experience. Although I really wish I could've got it with the right case and cover, I finally found a US seller that had it for a reasonable price after seeing so many overseas that cost a lot, so I got this one. Just in time too, because I've been wanting to revisit Spyro 1 sometime before Christmas. Although I do have the Playstation Classic, which has some PAL games on it, this is actually my very first physical PAL disc.

While this is where I would usually write a happy note here, that sadly is not the case for this one. The disc unfortunately is too scratched up for me to do anything with it right now. Mind you, I knew beforehand it was scratched by looking at the pictures, but I took a chance because of what I said above, and I have had some discs before that looked about as bad and still worked. Thankfully, it's not a lost cause because my PC at the very least recognizes it, and I've looked at ways to clean discs some this year, which I have put off on for too long now, and I am confident this one can be fixed with a little time. Hopefully, by the end of the week I can get it working. 🤞
Scratched discs... been there as well.
That's too bad, if you don't own one of those disc cleaning machines... or know anyone who still owns one.
Luckily the games shop I usually go to actually has a big old one there, and I already had some of my PS2 games resurfaced (they only charge 2 euros for every cleanup so it's money well spent imo), my 20-year-old copy of GTA San Andreas literally looks brand new now!

There's quite a few different tutorials online on how to do it, me personally I've never tried any of them, whenever I buy a 2nd hand game that's too scratched I always prefer to go to the shop and have it resurfaced, when possible.

As you might've noticed by now, CDs are thinner than DVDs, so that means DVDs have a much thicker surface and thus are easier to "fix" if they get scratched... CDs on the other hand, are the other way around so even the slightest scratch might be enough to kill them.

If your PC recognizes it, you can certainly try to create a copy of the game's ROM and try to run it with an emulator or something, but you might end up with a "bad" ROM filled with errors, it's always a risk worth taking if the disc cleaning fails.

I wish I had a machine that did it for me, but alas, they're expensive, and even if I could get one, I would not be able clean the game in time before Christmas like I am wanting to do. There's a place called Player's Choice, which I have mentioned a few times in this thread, that has a $5000 repair machine, and I have had a few games resurfaced there before that looked good as new and played as such afterward. The problem is that the place is 150+ miles from where I live, and I only ever get to go there when we're on vacation, so I am out of luck until we go there again this Summer. :indiff: (and that's assuming we even go there at all next year)

I've been following video tutorials for the past few days on how to do this myself, but with little success. I did, however, buy some scratch remover last night, and I am hoping I'll get lucky with it and fix it before tomorrow, but I don't have much confidence.

Actually, I didn't know that. Good to know.

That's actually what I've been trying to do the entire time, but it gets 73% of the way there before stopping. I tried sanding the disc with high-grit sandpaper, and I seem to have made it even worse because of that. :ouch: Fortunately. I can confirm the disc still works, just not very well.

Although I will undoubtedly get it fixed at some point in time, if I can't get it by tomorrow night, I am just going to cut my losses and possibly hand it off to a friend who can do it for me next time I see her.

My truck is too high, I'm totally not too short.

Next up, deciding on a tonneau cover.
No, I think you have it backwards on the height.:sly:

It really is insane how tall even the midsize trucks are- nevermind the full size. The hood on my dad's GMC Sierra sits level with the hood of his Jeep, and the Jeep has a 4 inch suspension lift on it. I've been looking into buying at one of the GM midsiszers to replace my junkpile next year (as long as it doesn't die again this winter), and those are the same size as the Silverado he bought new in 2001.

The Tacoma is only 3" narrower and 12" shorter than the Tundra, which is crazy.

As for the height, the Pro now comes with a lift from the factory and the box is 1" deeper so it makes me feel extra less tall.

Using my garage door as a gauge, here are the height differences. I'm parked the same distance away from the door.

The box on the old Taco didn't make it up to the brace on the door and the roof didn't make it to the seam in the panels. The new one is just past on both. I'm sure it's quite comical watching me get in and out. :p

Another late night purchase for the PC. Last thing I needed was a new GPU. I was happy enough with my 4070Super but with the Price madness and Nvidia cutting production next year I used that as an excuse to upgrade a bit.

Last thing I want is to replace my 6 intake fans with reverse blade ARCTIC P12 ARGB Pros to match the Arctic AIO. That can wait though given its purely an aesthetic change.

I can’t afford the place I’m living in, so I’m moving out. I just got this rent-subsidized studio on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. Between the much lower rent and only needing to pay for internet, I’m going to save about $4-500/month. I have a friend who already lives there and helped me to get this place. I’ve got a view of Mount Rainier out my window, and the roof is accessible for fantastic views. I watched the July 4th fireworks from the roof with my friend one year. Money is super tight since I’m paying rent here and there in both January and February (I’ll probably only be able to buy two games this year, Horizon 6 and GTA 6), but it means I’ve got two months to complete the move. I’m looking forward to this.
