today i took a picture of a mid to late 80's red lotus espirit turbo that just appeared down the block from my house is this car rare???

Fairly rare, indeed. Interesting to see it parked behind a CRX, which is not that different in looks from the Esprit.

I've seen a handful, but years between a sighting. I haven't seen an Esprit for 2 years now.

Unless properly cared for, they can be a big hassle to own, like many/most other niche British sportscars. Some problems require entire motor pulls. Even after so many years of production, I still found them really nice cars, truly timeless. Not many cars can still pull off that square c-pillar.

This car in GT4 becomes the devil on the Nurb' and refuses to be tamed.

I've never actually seen one in real life, but i've always had a fondness for the car. Nice find. 👍
