Why is it when someone starts a thread about how to win this race or that people immediately post how great they are, how easy is was for them, did it on the first try, adding nothing to the question asked? I don't care how good a driver you are, I'm reading the thread because I'm interested in an answer. Way to many of this type of reply. Just one of my beefs, I feel better now.

I honestly don't see a lot of bragging. Most of the time it is something along the lines of "I did it on the first try using XYZ" or "It is easy when you do XYZ". And this is quite fair to my mind as they do provide help adding that with that strategy it is easy or easier. Very rarely do you see somebody in thread just bragging that it was easy for them.

I know which thread this probably belongs in...but since its under the General Questions, and you technically asked a question, my anwser is "because this place is full of helpful people, as well as the helpless" :p lol

You have a weird way of looking at things. Those people are responding saying it was easy with a particular combination because that's what people are asking for, winning combinations that they don't have to try over and over, something they can win with on the first shot. In other words they are answering the OP's question.

I said the exact same thing.... months ago!

For me, it's encouraging to know some things are not only possible, but actually easy with the right technique. A few times this made the difference between giving up, and perservering. While it's frustrating to hear the seeminly impossible is easy for some, in the end they were right and I, too, found them easy.

Oh it's easy to win this type of bragging race. I used the Ignore GT with a trans tweak. Did it first time

I agree 100%. And truly, most of us are all a version of suck anyway. I remember when I thought I was good, easily beating all my friends, and forum challenges. Now seeing that I'm about 2,000th (on a good day) to 5,000th on all my races that I try hard on, I know I suck, so most of the time I just keep my mouth shut. Besides, bragging undermines the cool friendly atmosphere of GTPlanet :)

Some people boost you up, some raise themselves above others, and some tear you down to make themselves look taller.

The whole reason I'm here, on this board, responding to this post is that when I ended up on this forum for the first time, seeking information, I found that info and people who were helpful and respectful. On the whole I've never found another forum, of any subject, where the members are as helpful and the level of douchbaggery is so low. Sure, there are members who would tell you how awesome they are and how much you suck but those people are few and far between on here.

If a person only says that they "Found it easy" may not be adding to the conversation on a fundamental level but they are bumping the OP's post to the top of the section for them allowing a higher likelyhood of the post being seen by others who can add more to the conversation. Those "Found it easy" statements can also lead to questions being asked of "why did you find it easy" and forthcoming replies of anything from technique to mechanical settings.

There's almost always more than one way of seeing a situation.

Quit your bragging!!

I would lucky if I could get into the top 100k. :boggled:

If you want bragging just go to any of the MR threads about how some cars aren't wrong, it's just that no one else can drive.

Welcome to the WWW!

What's wrong with MR cars? I quite like em? But then I like all the cars and races except Drift.

I don't post much but I read quite a lot and I read for two reasons, good information and good entertainment. So when someone responds to a valid question about any given race with a "easy race got gold on first lap" that makes me laugh and thus the entertainment value kicks in. Truth be told this GT community is very helpful to almost anyone who knows how to ask for help in a decent fashion, but if you come on here acting like you're entitled and think just because you purchased this game this community owes you something, you might be dissapointed in the replys, sometimes it's just in the way you ask. My two cents.

Actually I think it worth at least $1.00 ;-)

BTW I couldn't agree more with you sentiments if I had typed them myself.

Fair point , however some people do list their achievments along with advice for 2 reasons:
1 So their advice will be taken seriously.
2 Making something sound easy helps take the stress out of the task. It can help them remember its just a game & re-focus their energy.
And there are some people who are just showoffs .

Just my take on it. I have been at my wits end with some of the seasonal events on gt5 at times, done them 100 times and still no joy. Just when I've been ready to quit, I have found inspiration on these forums from some obviously talented people. People willing to share their info/techniques with all and sundry, and sometimes even saying that what seems impossible is actually attainable quite easily with correct set up and technique. I personally don't find it to be bragging at all, as my take on bragging would go something like" This is so easy for me, what's up with you muppets?" I am yet to see a post along those lines. Indeed, some of the posters on here have helped me to become a better racer and tuner in this game, not good, just improved. Perhaps a little bit of tall poppy syndrome?
Anyway, keep up the good work and stay fast, cheers all :gtpflag:

I was just thinking about how much of this kinda bs is going on these days. I have always found whatever info I've needed here and give back whenever
I'm able. It seems every topic will have about 1/3 of these type of posts "It's not the car, it's you" , "learn to drive" and no info or facts . I liken them to "drive bye's".
With such focus I've seen about grammar and spelling maybe some attention should be given to the "I'm good and you suck ha ha ha!!!" type posts.

Ha!! I'm the opposite. I love the drift and hate all the races... well, shifter carts and stoooooooopid X1 anyways. Really, though. I race to get credits to build my drift cars.

OnTopic: I see some bragging/truth, but not from the best drivers around here. The best drivers are very helpful and considerate of other people's skill level. Some things are easy for people who use steering wheels, while being very difficult for us ds3ers. With 2 ways to play, what sounds like bragging is usually just the truth... it really WAS easy for them.

I'm the best, the absolute best at spinning myself out on the first corner, first lap of a league race. No one else can touch me in that regard.

Because people who have accomplished little in life seek some solace in bragging about their proficiency in a video game to strangers on the internet. Commonly such people will also conjure up an imaginary racing career to throw into their posts about why they are just so exceptionally talented.

Just be happy that you have enough in life to not feel the need to do this, and take pity on the people who do.

Cynicism is equally as rampant on the internet as Ego (or eEgo shall we call it?) It would be nice if everyone adopted a policy of only posting if they have something useful, helpful, informative, complimentary or otherwise pleasant to say wouldn't it? ;)
