The new download manager downloads everything, whether you've bought it or not. That must be part of their new system of handling multi-car events. No more having to buy the entire class of cars to participate in the races hopefully.
 
New car was added this evening, the 1990 BMW E30 M3 Sport Evolution!

Costs $1 or 1000 credits and is free to test drive for today.
 
That makes the Sierra Cossie a bargain.

Also, I see there's an Asphalt Modified event at Kentucky now. Looks like I've found a spot to earn credits for the next few weeks.

Edit: I guess the email lied about that event. I can't find it anywhere.

Just got in and gave it a whirl around Silverstone, I think it is absolutely awesome! Driving model is fantastic with it, really top job. Sadly the price is madness and I can't buy it, I definitely want it but the price is just too crazy.
 
Have a few questions.

Downloaded and setup an account for simraceway months ago. Never got a chance to sit down and try it out. So last night finally get some time to play.

So I've got just the EVOx and want to do the starter event, but it says that event is only for accounts newer than February something. My account is older than that.

I can still run races, and ran a little bit on Daytona Road with it before the baby pulled me away so I didn't get to finish.

Do you get credits for racing in races? or is it just events?

If you had to guess, what's an average amount of credits you could earn in an hour. I'd like to use credits as much to buy cars versus paying for cars in the beginning.

Any good recommendations for cars to look into getting for online racing? I like the GT3 & GT2 car packs, but didn't want to buy anything that you don't see racing very often. I did just now notice that bundles can only be bought with cash and not with credits.

Two other bundles I'm looking at are:

Top 25 Bundle

Tasting Menu Bundle

What happens if I buy a bundle let's say the Tasting menu bundle that has the Mclaren mp4-25 2010, and then later on I decide I want to buy the "Mclaren bundle" with includes that car. Do I just pay for the car again, or do they take it out of the total price for the 2nd bundle?

It's hard to recommend cars because they always change them, but the Charger R/T (new one), kart (events more than races) and asphalt modified seem to pop up every now and then. I expect the GT2 and 3 cars will be featured a lot as they push the multi car racing, too.

You get 5cr per lap in any event and race, sometimes there's a delay between exiting a race and the credits appearing. No credits for practice mode though.

With bundles you'll have to pay for the cars twice, no discounts. That's just a Free to Play thing, really, they'll use anything they can to get money out of you... Like how they sometimes raise the minimum funding from $5 to $10, for example.

Edit: don't hesitate to ask for opinions on particular cars before you buy them, I know I won't mind lending my opinion and I'm sure Bazz, GT Ace and GT Porsche won't mind doing so either, they've helped me in the past. I think between us we've got almost every car except for the super expensive ones.

Agreed. Love the sound when it shifts, and the thumping sound from the exhaust as the revs go up. Drives better than I expected.

As for the car suggestions. I only own the kart, Evo X, Renault Formula 3.5, Dodge Charger SRT-8, Sierra Cosworth R500 and the Asphalt Modified. All are great cars and fun to drive. One great suggestion is to look through events and pick out an even where there's a somewhat cheap car you can get and use to earn a ton of credits in. That's how I got started after earning credits in the Evo X, I bought the Charger when there was a challenge event for it. Earned a ton from that and used it to buy a few cars.

I typically wait to buy a car for quick race purposes until there's a fairly active race for the car.

Be nice if they had a "try it before you buy it" scenario. I know they do the Tuesday test drive, but today's is the bugatti for $17.50. I think i'll pass.
 
I've just realised that to get enough credits to buy the Bugatti without whipping out my debit/credit card, I'd need to do 3,500 laps. Only The Stig could manage that! :eek:
 
Buy an SRW S1 and have as much bad luck with it as I have.
Three wheels broke in one year. I got a replacement wheel every time, with a redeem code for 10 credits. Which means that I have 40 credits accumulated.
 
I should've mentioned before that the kart, being as cheap as it is, is a good first buy so you can do the Sonoma kart thing, that's a challenging but short lap so you can make decent credits from that, getting to around 300cr from that alone doesn't take too long. Then again I'm sure there's an Evo X oval race which is probably not much slower and much easier, so... I don't know!
 
Don't see a kart challenge. Looking at all ranges Beg/Int/Advanced. The challenges rotate around so at some point a kart challenge would come back?
 
To be honest I haven't looked for about a week but there's been karting challenges available pretty much constantly over the past few months, I imagine they'll be coming back soon... I think. It's all still very much in flux so nothing is definite, unfortunately.
 
One more question for now.

When I started GT5 I raced with most aids on, and eventually (for past year or so) I don't use anything other than ABS.

What about the driving aids there. It seems on the simraceway forums (if you call them that) that even the advanced events still let you use a minimal amount of traction control and brake assist and such.

Should I just start out with no aids at all and learn that way.

One I figured I would keep is the auto-clutch as my G25 pedals are wired into my DFGT so I don't even have the clutch pedal installed.

For the most part driving without ABS in SRW is a little less suicidal than it is in GT5, I would advise you try it without any driving aids or ABS on first, the reason you're aloud some minimum driving aids in advanced events is due to the fact that many of the cars have this available in real life, many of the racing cars too.

You should really decide which aids you want to use on a per car basis, if you were driving without aids in GT5 you should be fine unless you were using soft racing tyres.
 
I turned all the aids off and kept them off, except auto clutch which I turn on for cars with paddleshifts but usually forget to turn it off for H-shifters. I don't race without them so I can be like 'well I'm a real man because I don't even use ABS', I do it because I want to learn and having your face ripped off every time you make a mistake is a good way to learn to stop making mistakes! Not that any of the cars are really that unforgiving, of course, apart from the Atom V8...
 
Finally got around to doing some Evo laps.

Only thing I could do was quick races, and to start off I picked the 8 lappers around Phoenix to get familiar.

Feels nice playing, only took me like two starts to realize gotta rev the engine in neutral before start. Damn black flags for not serving a drive-thru penalty.

Ended up getting the kart, but haven't taken it out yet.

Are the quick races setup by SRW?

Just have to figure out what buttons to map to the steering wheel (DFGT) and figure out what is actually used.

Besides up/down gear, look back/left/right that's about all I got so far mapped. Tried mapping brake balance f/r but it doesn't seem to do anything. Are there just some cars that it doesn't work for? Like launch control doesn't work on the evo.

Also, map a button for the clutch. That way you can just hold that button, and have the car in gear for faster starts.

Launch control and brake balance are only on certain cars, along with pit lane speed limiters.

So will this car be a Tuesday Test Drive?

Or do they generally release a car on Tuesday or is it just whatever the last car released is for special on the TTD?

When they release a new car they let you drive it on the day of release for free, but only for that day, Test Drive Tuesday is where they take a car that is already released and let you test drive it for the day, they also do a 50% discount on the price for it on Test Drive Tuesdays.

So you get to test drive a car every tuesday + every time they release a new car (which is roughly one per 1-2 weeks at the moment).
