I think Virtual R just posting nonsense to get a few hits, wouldn't be the first time. Simraceway let go of a few staff recently, that is about all they have to go on. Phil (one of the staff at SRW) made a comment to deny the article, can be seen on the page itself.

He mentions that while they have had a rough time recently and had to let go of some staff they are right on track for the future with a lot of planned updates and content, and with big updates and content quite litterally having just been released there is no sign of the game/service going downhill, let alone shutting down.

Person who wrote that article can't even spell "soldiering" right so I knew that had to be complete BS

I must say I love VirtualR, but they should have checked with Simraceway before posting the article. Below is the exchange:

"Hey Guys,

Just got wind of this, unfortunately - for VirtualR traffic volumes - the rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated.

However we have had a really tough break of late and so had to let some folk go but the operation is certainly not shutting down and we’re continuing to develop and push out new content – feel free to check out our new Skill Sharding, this weekend saw some of the closest racing we've yet achieved.

All the best,
Phil

P.S. VirtualR admins our name is actually “Simraceway” (not SimRaceWay), our company name is “Ignite Game Technologies” (not Ignite Skill Gaming) and that screenshot is nearly a year old!

Further more of the 100+ cars we've released all of them can actually be acquired for no cost via credits and only a small number have very high prices (if you want to buy them rather than earn them), in fact over 40 of them are less than $1 each.

I exaggerated nothing, I've just reported what I have been told. Since several sources reported exactly the same thing I figured there was merit to it.

This article is certainly not meant to gloat about the problems you are in but since this is a paid service I think members deserve to know of its problems...god forbid that somebody spends a large sum of content not knowing that the title might be shut down in a few days.

Regarding the new content, I was told that will come from a back catalogue and there are no actual artists left on your team. Is this true?

I'll update the article with your answer of course..."

I hope Simraceway won't die. Finally a game with my local track and than it will be gone? That would suck. :(

Anyways, can't do anything about it if it happens. Lets just keep enjoying ourselves for as long as we can.

There is still a large section of the sim racing community that are very upset with the way Simraceway started.
Its alleged they were charging people for mods they didn't create and not passing on royalties to the original makers.
It caused a big rift in the community a few years back.
Not everyone wants to see them survive it seems.

But If they do fold i feel sorry for their customer base who may lose out.

Actually I believe they just started a service where players paid to enter an event, the money was then split between the winning drivers at the end. But back then it was more a match-up service for Rfactor and not a seperate game. You would guess that SRW as a service were taking a cut of that entry fee too.

But that was I believe 5 years ago, the current version of SimRaceway is a standalone game (opened in 2011) with it's own 100% licenced content, the company name is also different to what it was originally. Anyway, SRW keep trying to make it clear that these rumours are just rumours and that the service will continue to grow and improve. I had not played it for a few months until this week, and it certaintly has improved a lot in that time.

Yes, that was back when Simraceway was in control on rFactorCentral.

Conincidentally, that's around the time I quit doing rFC online events.

Surely
a skeleton crew of only a handful of employees.
will not release cars with the same frequency as before.

That's what happen when you try to sell a car for 38 bucks, the market simply laugh at you even if you have some very cheap cars and your sim is not bad overall. You just can't sell a single car for that price. The bad advertising is immense, don't need to be a marketing guru to get that.
This, obviously without considering what happen'd with mods and rFactor Central back in the days.

I've got the $38 Mclaren MP4/4 and I think I paid like $4 for it or something, it came on test drive tuesday for $19 discounted and i had around $15 on my account from event prizes. People seem to look at the prices without taking into consideration the format of gameplay in SRW, the point is that you race to win cash, that you then use to spend on cars.

It may be true that they won't release cars as often (no new car for 2 weeks) but at the same time they just released 2 new tracks, and a physics overhaul for the GT3 cars. The FFB these days is also better, and i'd argue it is the best feeling FFB of all the sims out there.

It is lacking in the game department though, people want more use out of their content than what is currently provided, I personally think that is the main thing holding them back.

It's in human instict looking at the 38 $ price and screaming for a scam. Not everyone care about how you can pay that thing 4 $, they just see the high price and run away. It's called bad advertising. That was my point.

I just downloaded the game a couple of weeks ago and like the tracks, physics, sound etc., although my PC isn't quite up to snuff so it doesn't look that great. When I was the price of the cars I laughed. I realize for some people money is no object but for the majority of us working stiffs, paying $30+ for a single car in a video game is ridiculous in the extreme. It's a free market, you can do what you want, but I would find it hard to believe they actually made money on any car priced that high when balanced against the programming time it took to create it.

I agree a few cars are ridiculously priced, but it is not like you have to buy them, the online racing does not require those cars.
Most Quick races can be done with the 3 free cars and you can accumulate credits to acquire more. :sly:
More than 50 cars are less than 2 $ and can also easily be acquired with credits earned by just participating in online events or races.
Getting involve in SimRaceway is free, and you get access to all the laser scanned tracks.
Everyone should be able to make their own opinion on how great the physic and FFB is, SRW is one of the great SIM out there and possibly the most accessible.:D

I know a lot of sim racers and I visit pretty much every forum for sim racing. SRW is a non-player. I'm sure the content is great and the racing is great, but no one plays. I know 3 guys who tried it and stopped very soon (I was one). It's more than just the cost, it's the screwy way that the game is arranged and how online is organized. It's be great for a casual racing game, but for a sim, IMHO the way it is organized is not what sim racers want. I didn't really feel like I had a choice of what I raced or where I raced it.

I sort of have the same problem with the game. There really is no choices to make for yourself. Its what they choose for you or hot lapping alone. Also if you do purchase a car to use for a event that's up, its only there a short time then its gone and unless they make another event with the car its almost useless. Ive got 3 cars in my garage like that right now, used once never used again. The cars didn't cost me anything but earned credits, but still would of been nice to know they where gonna be 1 use cars.

but reminded rFactor.
Because it IS rFactor. They could have done payware mods instead of all this Simraceway closed box. I would have been interested in several stuff.

I'm not against payware modding if the quality is high and you don't scam a modding group.

That's like saying Race 07, GTR2, Race Stockcar and the many other gmotor2 games are also rFactor. It's far from the same game at this point.

But why people keeps converting all the stuff you mentioned to rFactor? Because it's cool having a single platform and adding stuff to it.
I think these companies missed a potential niche market. Selling quality mods to rFactor could have been more profitable than a standalone game like Simraceway.

Because they were selling mods that weren't payware, and they decided to do their own game instead.

As long as there are groups actively modding for rFactor, they will continue converting things from other games, whether legally or not.

Selling at $12

Tried the Veyron today for a few laps, game seems to have progressed quite a bit since I last played. There doesn't seem to be many that play the game though going by amount of people taking part on leaderboards. I managed to get number 1 time for my Skillquant level event by over a second although I guess more people will try later on.
