For one event? I'm all set, I don't want it that bad, but you are right, there are alternatives to race this event. I'll save the money for DLC if it ever comes.

Going to play the ugly American for a moment...what's the largest market for GT5?
Could be wrong but thinking its North America and in particular the U.S.

Not that its really important I guess, but seems a rather odd decision for a business to possibly alienate a significant market area for no understandable reason.

Now out of ugly American mode...regardless of whether I get access to a given portion of content for the game, GT5 is still by far my favorite PS3 racer. Other racing games have had specific things I liked better but as an overall product that I routinely enjoy GT5 wins hands down.

If I wasn't able to access the TT I'd just buy a stock Maroon SLS, stick some Comfort Softs on it, keep brake bias at 5/5 and hit the Top Gear track and try and beat the time (Currently 1:15.176).

You won't get the cr1,000,000 but that's not a massive prize anyway, there's no Stig suit or prize car or magic beans to be won, it's just a time trial.

99.99% of the GT players won't even make the top 10 at the end so they aren't missing out on much.

Thats like saying "Hey, why don't you take your (car, bike, skateboard, whatever) to the (road, park, track) and you judge yourself even though we charged you an entry fee"

Event is an event, we got stiified.

EU is Gran Turismo's largest market saleswise.

First of, 750 mil. people live in the EU.
Therefore, the EU is a bigger market for both Playstation and GT. This of course has a little to do with the double amount of residents compared to the US, but it also has to do with heavy marketing through many years and a not so popular xbox, to name a few reasons.
The Gran Turismo series is of a such size that it's popularity is pretty much global though, so can't really blame you for thinking like that.

That said, I truly don't understand why the event hasn't been released for other territories, and I know how you guys feel. I've experienced the same, just the other way around, countless times, and this goes for all different types of digital entertainment and products, not just GT5. Always a bummer.

I'm happy they made this a 'partly global' seasonal though, since it was just supposed to be 24 guys hot-lapping against DC. Now many thousands have done it instead, and it really pushes the envelope for what can/should be done with these events.

I was wondering about this as well. This morning (Tuesday) I noticed on us.gran-turismo.com that the SLS Seasonal is listed on the right (along with other, past, seasonals), whereas the eu.gran-turismo.com site had the event listed Monday afternoon. I would imagine that once the network maintenance is completed those of us in North America will be able to participate.

I was also curious as to why the car comes standard with SH tires but the seasonal is run with CS. I missed the comments from DC, so that makes much more sense to me. I picked up a showroom fresh SLS AMG yesterday for practice, ran a 1:16.3 hot lap and thought, 'how hard can this be?' Switched to CS and dropped to 1:18.something.

This seasonal is pretty close to what i thought the TGTT implementation would be like. Would really like to see 'em get the same kind of data from one of the Stig's power laps to race against.

Well, looking to Top Gear Power Ranking, the Mercedes SLS clocked 1:21, the 1:26.3 would be 3rd fastest 0,1s slower than McLaren MP4-12C.

Top Gear times all laps with a standing start, presumably on pretty cold tyres. In this challenge it's a full speed start. Big difference.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle... they posted the seasonal event for the US (and maybe everywhere outside the "PAL" region). I bet it had something to do with the scheduled maintenance. Either way, it's great. Thanks, PD!

Come on, you know what kind of tires that SLS was running out there this time. ;)
They downtuned "stock" SLS tires in the game, and upgraded the real life tires to most probably Pilot Sport Cup's.

Edit: Oh, and they held the track a secret, I'll bet he had practice too.

PAL region getting something before NTSC. Whoa, I certainly wasn't expecting that!
