FYI in answer to a question.

For anyone interested and available, I’ll be hosting a practice race (50 minutes) tonight at 9:00 (EST), and I’ll have the room up by 8:30 (EST).

The last couple weeks we've held practice at 9:00 (EST), but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it tonight so I'll let someone else confirm.

Anyone up for hosting tonight's practice?

We just ran a short practice race with penalties set to Strong. Personally I think it will do more harm than good:

  • In some parts of the track you will get penalized for simply touching the rumble strips.
  • Your opponents car will go in and out of ghosting when they have a penalty. So if you were to attempt a pass thinking hes ghosted, that might go south real quick with our heavy damage if he un-ghosts.
  • The constant ghosting is distracting to say the least
That was with Strong penalties though, I dont know what its like set to Weak.

My 2c: Treat tomorrow night like Sunday night. If you know you cut part of the track, make it clear you arent gaining any time. Lift and slow down. I know it can be hard to do that when you're battling with someone. If someone is constantly cutting (I dont think we have those types here) then we can add + X seconds to their total time after the race.

I second that. Strong penalties are a bit over the top. There were times i was getting penalties for nothing. It is distracting with the penalty alerting over someones car as well. I do like the damage aspect though. That should help people stay honest.

Thanks for hosting tonight @SAMHAIN85 , Even though we only ran a short stint, i learned a great deal.

See you guys tomorrow night.

For tomorrow night's race, we have 10 guaranteed drivers (based on the Official and Provisional Driver Lists):

If you're interested in joining in, please say so in this thread by tomorrow afternoon to guarantee yourself a spot. Tagging everyone who has raced with us the last couple weeks:

I'm in, please forgive me now for the upcoming disaster....

I was worried about the penalties being overly severe, maybe I'll do some testing with weak at some point, but for now I agree let's keep them off for tonight's race.

I wish GT:Sport had something like iRacing, where if the game detects a clear advantage was gained, or a corner was cut too much it just asks you to slow down - but doesn't punish you for running wide or leaving the track when there was no advantage gained.

Gl in the race guys I will not be able to attend unfortunately. I ended up getting scheduled to close. Hopefully i'll see you guys next week.

Ever since la Sarthe was introduced the interwebs were in upheaval over the severity and seemingly random penalty system on this track alone. i.e. going wide at all after the esses getting onto the first straight will give you a penalty. Granted there are enough slow spots to dump it, but it IS frustrating and will throw you off your game when that redness pops up unexpectedly. I've seen a 10s penalty for a minor chicane cut in Sport Mode. That seems high to me. Long story short, I don't think we need penalties but if they're in, I'll respect that.

Just to add, I think it was me and @FREEREVN were getting penalties after we had already been penalized for taking the turn to wide which you are already penalized for by adding time incidentally. Then on top of that to get a time penalty from the game is garbage. Im with @SAMHAIN85 I think we good with how we race Sundays. I would however hope that most of you know the combo good because, while its fun, it is difficult if you dont know the track.
