So, can Vettel win the championship in 2012?

Red Bull has given him a crap car this year. If he gets a good car again then he will run away with it.

No, it's by a far margine not a crap car. It's still fast, but the rest are catching up fairly quickly... McLaren sometimes even surpassed them in some occassions.

Crap car? first in the constructors and first in the drivers championship? what does that make of the other 11 cars on the Grid?

What I mean is that Vettel should have won more then one race.
He didn't even get into Q3 at China.

He can win it, but he doesn't have a car as good as his last two championships, so it's up to him adjusting to running without the Diffuser-thingy, as Webber has looked on par with him this season so far, what Red Bull should be worried about is McLaren and Ferrari, Ferrari might just do a 2010 on them, and McLaren actually caught the Red Bull near the end of last season with a pole in Korea, and what should have been pole in Suzuka, weather or not Red Bull can stick with them in development is an interesting element of the season, Mercedes will probably develop ok, and Lotus to fall off.(going by previous seasons)

He has a good car and he can win it, but it's much closer at the front than it has been in recent years. If they can keep qualifying well I believe it'll be no contest. But if he struggles to make the front two rows every race then I don't think he's good enough. He has a real knack for driving consistently fast in clean air but if he's having to battle on the same strategy he really struggles where someone like Alonso would create passing opportunities under almost any circumstances. I don't think i've seen a race where he's had to battle his way to the front, most of them have been wins from pole, or a few great overtakes in the opening laps.

He can overtake, but this season will really show if he can battle and race aswell as the best. We saw Button come into his own last season for this, and we all know how good Alonso and Hamilton can be.

It's like 2009 again, he's got a fast car but it's not quite the fastest. The wins are much tougher when you have to drive with perfection just to keep up with the frontrunners.

Need to stop supporting Hamilton, Button and the saubers
Go vettel :D.

I think if the team get their act together he has a chance but it will be a close season unlike last year.

Some one has a good memory of my F1 post :sly:

I find it hard to stop supporting them, and well Vettel just something about him I can't get behind. I don't hate the guy I think he's an awesome driver but I'm neutral. Those I dislike I usually don't talk about, due to upfront respect that I have for all f1 drivers.

Even the ones that knife people with glass :sly:

I meant me

But yes I do remember wernt you the guy who wanted Alonso to get stuck in the pits or something so perez could walk to a victory?

Oh

Yes I did want that to happen, but only due to how great a story that would have been. Little did we know that it would be the next race that that scenario would happen yet instead it would be Button and Rosberg.

Sure he can, but Alonso, Hamilton, Rosberg, Raikkonen, Button, Webber and Grosjean also can atm. It will depends on a lot of factor.

I think Alonso will win the title this year, if not Raikkonen, why the both of them are at the longest odds of the frontrunners is a mystery to me (17:1).

Although it is still possible for Alonso to win the title this year, it all depends on how quickly Ferrari can sort out their dog of a car. If they can get the car working well by mid-season I'd say Fernando would be a good bet. Remember how he and Ferrari turned their season around mid 2010 and nearly won the title? You never know, it could happen again. And this time they could go one better. However the odds seem against them at the present, given that their problems are much larger than in 2010.

Raikkonen meanwhile has shown that he hasn't lost any of his pace or race craft. However I get the feeling that Lotus's in-season development isn't quite up to scratch with the likes of Red Bull and McLaren. If my thoughts are correct, this will hurt their chances later in the year.

So I'd say that while Fernando and Kimi might seem to be in the hunt at the moment, they are outside bets.

It's impossible to tell at this point, we're only 4 races in and have had 4 different constructors win.
Maybe after 7-9 races we will be able to get a glimpse of the contenders but right now it's anybodys game.

Fernando taking the title would make for one hell of a story. ;)

Can he? Yes! Will he? Who knows, this year has been so weird so far, even raikkonen could win it, i'm a mclaren fan always, but raikkonen deserves a second world title if you ask me.

Vettel has a very good chance of winning it this year, but then again they really need to sort out their qualifying form. Last year they dominated qualifying and as a result, dominated the race too. Whilst Vettel is amongst the pack he still drives very well, but that places him in the same box as drivers like Alonso, which makes Vettel seem ordinary.

I'm thinking that Alonso will win it this year, with the Red Bull drivers close behind. Whilst I don't want it to happen, I feel that Mclaren will probably fall back relative to their competitors this season. Usually they're good at catching up but this season they started with the quickest car, so they have fewer relative gains to make (In comparison to Ferrari who in 6 races have got their car to a point where it can challenge for wins on the car's merits, and not just through Alonso's performance and a little luck in qualifying).

It's be awesome if a non-WDC took it though (So Massa, Grosjean, Webber or Rosberg realistically). I doubt it's going to happen though.
