Hah! It's not abusive! Well, it can be, depending on the circumstances - if the word 'bloody' is at the front, bad sign.

I rarely swear, rarely use abbreviations and never use that dreadful gang slang thing. I quite often allow myself to slip in to a mockney (mock cockney) as i do come from London and if i don't concentrate that's how i sound i guess.


btw... Kiwi's are easy to tell from Aussies.... they say "ay" at the end of every sentence. :p

Example

Kiwi 1 to Kiwi 2 - "How ya doing? ay"

Kiwi 2 - "Good, thanks ay"

I have a non-regional British accent, which tends just to be known as an "English" accent. I've lived in different parts of the country, and despite having been in Scotland for nearly 12 years, I don't have a Scottish accent.

I do, however, pick up modes of speech, so I use regional expressions.

I swear a lot more in real speech than on the forums, as some of you who've had IM conversations with me when I'm in a bad mood have found out...

Oh, and Boom, you're wrong on the nicest accent thing. The Irish accent (that's Irish Republic) is much nicer than the Australian accent.
 
I'm actually a little ghetto when I speak in real life. I use stuff like "Sup, dawg." and "Holla at ya boy!" and stuff like that. I usually don't write like that, as it's harder to accent all of the words like I say them and still type half as fast as I do. Also, I work in a professional environment, so if I did write like I talked, I may accidentally put something like "holla back if you need help." That would not be good :lol::lol::lol:

I tend to speak pretty much like I write here, though with more swearing thrown in. You haven't lived until your 4-year-old looks up from her Pop Tart and tells you, "Oh, just make the ****ing sandwiches." I do tend to stress my words a bit here and there which is whay I use a lot of bold and italic formatting in my posts; to try and get that expression across.

I don't have a particular accent, luckily, though Delaware has two distinct accents despite its tiny size. Rural Delawareans tend to say things like "warsh your hands in the zink" or "go keler with your crowns".

Giles I like the English and Irish accent's too, but I still prefer the Austrailian accent the most. There was a beautiful Austrailian girl that worked with me last winter and her voice just made me melt. :) She swore a bit too much tough. :lol: You Austrailians do like to swear a lot don't ya!
 
I don't have very much of an accent, I've grown up and lived in Pittsburgh all of my life, and all I can say is I'm glad I don't have the Pittsburgh accent. I can't even think of all the things people say around here...but I'll highlight some of the worst, people who talk like this are usually referred to as "yinzers".

daaann taaaawwn = downtown
yins, yuns, yins guys = you guys, all of you
worsch = wash
crick = creek
Stillers = Steelers
Paarates = Pirates
sammich = sandwich
saasidge = sausage




I might add more to this when I can think of more later on.

Side note: I live in one of the more well off suburbs of Pittsburgh, where a lot of people come and go...so I rarely hear the accents. But when you go into the city or some of the more blue collared surrounding areas, the local accent is much more noticable.

Well here in the Midwest we talk normal I guess. Yes we do elongate some vowels, but not as bad as people are led to believe. I tend to say like. I make up my own words a lot. No, we do NOT say "Yah Hey".
 
What about the word "hella"... As a true northern californian should, i use this word in excess... I am curious if there are individuals from around the world who also use this word in their regular vocabulary...

Ahh, in which case you're judging the accent by the person! I know exactly how you feel though, having worked with a particularly lovely Kiwi last year.
