You know not what you speak of. Also are those images you provided unfinished? I hope you are not claiming that C5 is of the level of premium cars?.. Nowhere near it, not even in the ballpark. And that was 8 weeks. Does not seem like much has been exaggerated.

Can we get this guy along with the creator of this thread a temporary ban for comprehension fail? Seems like a much better reason than double posting...

why because they both made valid points? He may not know much about 3D modeling but I do. Give me all the tools PD modelers use and I will turn out a Premium car in less than a month. Some of the modelers in the CG-Cars community model the chassis, interior, exterior, engine bits and have print quality renders done in less than two months. These guys have CAD models and laser scanning machines yet they take 6 months to make a car? Give me a freaking break.

Really disappointed with PD. I wish there was a game developer that had the skills of PD but the timeframe and common sense of a normal individual, not a snail.

The one thing that makes me the maddest is how Kaz said the game was ready to be released a year ago. Makes you wonder what their standard of a finished game is.

Which is why I hired some one ;) BUt your point about having access to the manufacturers CAD models as a starting point goes towards the otyher point that even in a super hidetail hipoly modle world, there are re-usable meshes.

For example, if you have done 1 Skyline and 4 more us the same steering wheel, you dont redo that mesh, you reuse it. If 12 NSX's all use the same door panel, you reuse that mesh - smae for brake calipers. Once youhave modelled the 6 piston Brembo, its done and so and so forth down the line.

Heck I would not be surprised if they just reuse the GT4 LODs for far off renders, they needed even make new models for that.

They dev cycle really seems flawed. Unless all those premium assets are already on our discs and whe just need to pay for them... ;)

I remember somebody hacked the GT5P game files and found various track names and cars (including generic NASCAR stock car names). Most of the data was from GT4, but it was interesting nonetheless. I wonder if somebody could do the same for GT5. Even resource file names could show something interesting.

As long as they fix certain issues with the game first and foremost, then i dont mind paying for more content.

Whats the betting the game as it is now is how it will remain??. Yeah we will get a few updates and whatnot, but those mostly seem to be aimed at the online side of things.

Sucks for those of us who dont race online. Not that i cant btw, i just choose not to. I much prefer the GT Life side of things. I just wish it was expanded is all.

Where do I insert my card, I want my DLC NOW!!!

First thing I learned in business school is to never make people wait to give you money!

Not singling out machschnel alone but it's just a good quote to use in this. Many people are in the very same boat but I'd wear out my keyboard trying to talk some sense to everyone personally.

McDonalds advertises the meal with a burger, a drink and chips. You have a right to complain if you don't get one of those. PD advertised GT5 with 1000 cars and you'd have had a right to complain if you didn't get them. But you :censored:ing well did.

This is pretty much how it has gone for most of the people, at least judging by how it sounds:

"We want GT5."
OK, you'll get GT5.
"We want 1000 cars in it."
OK, you'll get 1000 cars in it.
"We want it now."
OK, you'll get it now.
"We want more cars."
OK, you'll get more cars."
"We want better cars."
OK, youll get better cars.
"We want all those cars and more tracks for free. GT5 sucks because we didn't get every car in the world and some more for free in the beginning and we even had to wait for it. It cost us money too."

Seriously, that's the truth. Apparently nothing is enough and whining is more important than realizing how much is in the game already. As far as I know there's no other game with 1000 cars to begin with. Nobody promised 1000 Premium cars but people act like someone did. Nobody promised free DLC either.

PD makes business. Making business includes selling things. McDonalds sells you Sundaes to go with your meals too and I bet you won't go all berserk because you have to pay for them.

The funny thing is, I actually agree with what your saying, you have just misread my post.

My point, was that Gran Turismo 5 is not 5 years worth of work. A month's worth of play time has brought me to the conclusion that things have been left out (or more likely, taken out). This is what I think the majority of people are complaining about. To find out said things will be released as (possibly paid) DLC is a kick in the teeth.

Polyphony are well within their rights to do what they want. Doesn't mean it's right.

Or that it wont hurt future sales.

My dad said something to me when i was real young that has stayed with me for ever. I had done something really unfair to somebody and put them in a pretty crappy position. Even though I was well within my rights to do so, It was a pretty bad act to do.

"Just because you CAN do it, It doesnt mean you SHOULD"

Good post. My dad has taught me a lot as well.

I recently sold my wheels off of my truck to a guy, and I told him he could have them for $400 I then found out that the wheels were worth in between $1000 and $1200 (20" Toyota Tundra wheels)

I sold them to him for $400 like I told him because even though the extra cash would have been in my favor it wasn't right for me to go back on my offer to him.

...Polyphony Digital as a business, just as McDonald's or Boeing or Woolworths is.

If I order a cheeseburger from McDonald's and then have to go back up to the counter and pay to get the pickles and ketchup that they show on the picture of it on the menu, I'm gonna be pretty pissed off.

I have no problem paying for DLC. I'm ready for it.

No offense, but you're part of the reason that companies can put out unfinished and disjointed games, and get away with it. They know people will happily dish out money without question (usually mommy and daddy's), so they don't have to worry much about quality anymore.

Nice.

That's quite sad really. You haven't had the game a month.

I've only got 2 events A spec and 3 b spec left too.
Online seems disjointed.
No leaderboards to hotlap for.

Bit of a White elephant at the moment.

That's called honor. Something that is severely lacking in the world today

Honor has been replaced by greed. However if you listen to big businesses it's not greed, it's "free market economy". Did you know a corporation is required by law to make the biggset profits possible for it's shareholders? That means if they CAN rip you off without literally braking the law, they are required to do so.

What kills me is that not only has honor died out and been replaced by "the right to profit" consumers (the ones hurt most by this obviuosly) have been largely brainwashed into supporting and defending it as if they are white knighting for some noble cause...

The irony is painfully thick.

Meh, you're better off skipping McDonald's anyway. Maybe should have taken a pass on GT5 also. GT5 gave me indigestion

Have you tried the McRib? Seriously... it's awesome!

If that's how you see it then your screwed.

I see it as getting my burger that coming back for fries then for a shake then for a desert ..etc.

I'm ready for my premium fries PD.

And for those that just want to whine there is an official whining thread "who else is disappointed in ...."!

Actually, there's hundreds of those threads floating around the internet. 'Nuf said.

Anyone remember Papyrus?

Whatever happened to gamers creating games, and wanting to make the best thing out there?

Damn I miss the "old" days sometimes. :)

If one whines about whiners whining (or more specifically, whiners not whining in the "designated" whining areas), what does that make you?

It's not your fault though. It appears your fellow GTPlanet members have been remiss - they neglected to make a designated thread for whining about whining. Maybe it could go something along the lines of "who else is dissapointed in the whiners"? Just a thought

LMAO

I've had about enough ... Sony is nickle and diming us in everything they get their mits in. I refuse to pay for anything else. If this is true, it's probably time for me to go back to PC Racing.

Looking back over the last page or two, I'm not happy with what I'm seeing. There's a few posts that are clearly off-topic, but of more pressing concern are a few of them that are bordering dangerously close to abusive, and have the potential to ignite a flame war. So tread very carefully and consider yourselves warned.

The difference here is that Polyphony never promised you that content as a part of the original game. With regard to the Premium cars, Kazunori Yamauchi made it pretty clear that the only reason why they have 200 of them is because the cars were taking too long to render and there wasn't enough space on the disc for 1000 of them. He said so when news of Premium and Standard was first broken. If you're referring to Polyphony adding extra cars to the game that were not a part of the original car list (for example, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black or the Maserati Tipo 61), then you only have yourself to blame for having unrealistic expectations.

I think what people have an issue with, is the very real possibility that the "DLC" might actually be on disc or more likely, finished before GT5 was released, but kept out of the game for the expressed purpose of selling it to the consumers after they have bought an "unfinished" game. It's the unfinished game (something very un-Polyphony) aspect that makes believing the above stated pretty easy.

I like the part where you said "Kazunori Yamauchi made it pretty clear" though. If that man ever makes anything clear, even "pretty clear", I'll eat my pants.

After thinkin about this a little more it all stinks of Xmas. I luv Xmas, except that every one we seem to have one or two more games that are rushed to be released and they leave stuff out of them. I know GT5 have been a long time coming but tell me who here would not have preferred to wait for another six months, or even a year maybe, just to get the same quality of gameplay that GT4 had.

No matter what we say on this matter, the corporate plan with this game will not change. It is selling loads of copies and the increase in sales of new controllers and hardware has gone up too. DLC would be a great idea but must have CONTENT...not just one car. There must be free DLC to keep everyone keen and interested - however - you can share your own tracks online if you want (shame that the track creator is so limited as well).

Overall it comes back to the almighty dollar. GT5 Prologue, GT5, GT5 DLC....then... GT6. And repeat....

Get used to it folks. Nothing in this world is free anymore. Everyone wants a slice of your income. Being profitable is the name of the...game.

I was not whining, merely showing the way, whiners seem to overload the boards with useless threads or hijack sane ones.

Technically, all games are released in an unfinished state. To begin with it, was the modding community who demonstrated this, but you have to have a pretty good knoweldge of textures and models to be able to do it. The rise of DLC, on the other hand, has revolutionised that since it's accessible to everyone.

I like the part where you said "Kazunori Yamauchi made it pretty clear" though. If that man ever makes anything clear, even "pretty clear", I'll eat my pants.
Well, he did say it: there are 1000 cars in the game. 200 are Premium, 800 Standard. Polyphony attempted to make all 1000 to the Premium level of detail, but they found that there was not enough time to do it. In order to make all 1000 cars Premium, the release date would have to be pushed back almost indefinitely. Even if they were able to do that, they discovered that there was not enough space on the disc to be able to make all 1000 cars Premium. They briefly flirted with the idea of droppig the 200 cars they had already completed, but Yamauchi pushed to have them included. And thus the Premium/Standard distinction arose.
