So it begins - Paid DLC apparently, starting off with those new premium upgrades

They briefly flirted with the idea of droppig the 200 cars they had already completed, but Yamauchi pushed to have them included. And thus the Premium/Standard distinction arose.

That would have been crazy. Could you imagine the uproar people would be having if all the cars looked like the standards and there wasn't a premium at all? I don't think a whole lot of people would be playing this game if that happened.

See, PS2 and PS1 didn't have an update feature. We all went "Oh alright, so that's a bit silly, it's not like they can fix it"

But now with the PS3 having an update feature, everybody seems to be quite picky. If they do release paid update for special cars, you can choose not to buy it or not. It's THEM trying to make money, and no matter what, people will always buy the content because it will be something that they want. Trying to protest about it is just being immature and saying that GT5 was a failure is just rediculous. It's the latest GT5. We all waited for it. Who cares if it's below what you thought it would be, that's your opinion.

GT5 was over-hyped, and now PD are trying to bring it up to standard for all you people saying that it's crap. Pull your heads in and deal with it. Things come in time, it wont ruin your percentage of the game, it wont change anything because it hasn't happened yet. It may not ever happen. Over look these small details and get on with it. Im sure creating HD tracks with HD cars and HD spectators and HD Ai and making the system control 15 other cars while it controls your own car is enough. We waited 5 years, here it is, get used to it, because with all the whinging they could spend 2 years fixing GT5 or they could spend 2 years starting to develop GT6, getting rid of all the flaws that you are all mentioning.

Im sick and tired of people bagging the crap out of GT5.

Sorry if anyone see's this as a rant, but it's stupid that people have the nerve to complain about a peice of art. It's like saying the Mona Lisa isn't great because you can see the brush strokes. Nobody really cares.

I do understand where you are coming from GT5 is a lot of things, art? I'm not so sure of.
I am having a blast playing this game and it is great but it has way to many flaws to be considered art. I am not going to get into what is wrong and right with this game but since Kaz said last year that it was basically done I am glad there was another delay, but even with this last delay it is evident that it needed another one.

Video Game Design is Art. It is the art of designing a video game. I see where you're coming from aswell. And I said it the day the game came out, they jumped the gun, big time. But reading what Interludes said, he's correct. They HAD to release the game. They weren't able to fit 1000 Premium car's on a blu-ray disk. That's why PS3 uses Blu-Ray, because the disk's capacity is huge. They released the game hoping that it would be borederline and it was, now they're in a hurry to get it to what they originally wanted it to be. There's no need for all these topic's saying that the game is crap and whaa whaa, the game is being brought up to standard as quickly as humanly possible.

You never know, Kaz could release the premium copies 15 cars at a time, then after he's released 200, remove the standard ones? He could merge the two to create a premium model in the end? Who knows, I don't even think he knows.

Yeah sorry but the 1000 premium cars not fitting on a BD disc thing is just plain wrong. On a single layer disc, yes, not a 50GB dual layer DB.

Doesn't matter anyway as I accept time as the reason for them not being able to make more. My suggestion is for them to hire more artists and get the job done for GT6.

I have to agree 90% (it will be a while before I accept video games as an art form).

I think a lot of people set their expectations way too high and made a lot of assumptions as to what would be included in the game. Now PD is trying to meet those expectations by releasing DLC and people are still whining. Yes, in a perfect world the DLC would be free. Heck, if this were a perfect world there would be no need for DLC.

But we don't live in some happy magical perfect land. Things cost money. PD and Sony are companies whose purpose is to make money. Of course they will milk DLC for all it's worth as they know they can make money, even if all those "vote with my wallet" types don't buy it.

Personally, I would never pay for premium versions of standard cars that are already in the game. But I have no problem paying for new cars. I think Forza did a pretty good job with how they released DLC. I wouldn't be disappointed with system like that, just as long as PD releases DLC when they say they will (of course with PD's track record, they'll probably all get delayed).

GT5 was delayed because they had issues with the disk size. It was delayed again because they were still un-sure on whether they should even have Premium cars. They were that focused on making us happy that they left little things like it saying "installing" instead of loading on the loading screens. They made it so that it deducted credits for buying things and applying them to your car directly from the Tuning Shop, but it didn't save the parts you bought.

They were that eager for everybody to see what they had created that they went BANG and brought it out. They listened to US. And because of that, we're all in a ranting mess.

Stop just making things up please.

Stop just making things up please.

If you would read previous posts, and had looked into what GT5 was like before any of the updates you'd clearly see that I am not making anything up. I have a valid point of view and if you want to state things that are untrue then so be it.

The difference here is that Polyphony never promised you that content as a part of the original game. With regard to the Premium cars, Kazunori Yamauchi made it pretty clear that the only reason why they have 200 of them is because the cars were taking too long to render and there wasn't enough space on the disc for 1000 of them. He said so when news of Premium and Standard was first broken. If you're referring to Polyphony adding extra cars to the game that were not a part of the original car list (for example, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black or the Maserati Tipo 61), then you only have yourself to blame for having unrealistic expectations.

Ok let's switch mc donalds for any old restaurant and you order a steak, they just plop a steak on the table. They never promised you a pllate.

It all cones back to lies of omission. You can play the technically said and promised all you want but I don't think you can argue pd made a reasonable or honorable effort to get the info out there on the truth of the situation.

As for the reasons behind how many premiums, the time taken was made kind of questionable with the discovery of models used and the torrents have seen a 19 gb dump of the game so I don't know that you can really credit size on disc... Not that there couldn't have been two discs if need be anyway.

Honestly I think some doubts are arising behind the reasons given by pd on a few fronts and a lot of the reasoning behind defending pds actions kind of relies on.the circular logic of "we know this is how pd did it because pd says that's how and because they said it we know it is"

I am not sure what the storm in the teacup is all about. Games have paid for DLC, and someone will ALWAYS say that it 'should' have been included in the first place. There was enough preliminary information, from leaked copies and the like, that EVERYONE knew there were only about a 20% amount of Premium cars in the game. They could have canceled their purchase if this is the game-stopper they like to pretend it is.

It isn't.

I am much more heartened by the promise of monthly (or even bi-monthly) patches. These are the ONLY things I care about. The GAME (it IS a game, no matter how much some try to turn it into a religion!) is horribly flawed. Not the car models. Not the track models. THE GAME.

FAR fewer A-Spec events than GT4. One of the easiest things to fix. I can sit down with a pen and paper and probably come up with dozens in an hour. We already have all Lambo events. Where are the all Aston Martin, or all Skyline, or all FordGT, or just all Viper? It would be easy to create events that allow only cars with an equal HP to the event's top Typical Opponent'. Why is there only a tiny number of Miata Spec events? Why are only a fraction of the available tracks used. Vipers on EVERY track, Chevy's on EVERY track... Those are REAL 'Series'.

This ain't rocket science. And, unless the game was SO poorly coded as to disallow the inclusion of extra events in the menu structure (how can anyone with an IQ over 75 NOT think about this possibility?), a simple patch could allow this in next to no time.

More License Test, more Special Events, maybe a tad harder to code (I think many of them use scripted AI instead of the usual one) but still a fraction of the effort to scanning ONE Premium Car. And, bottom line, what do you want? 1000 Premium cars playing a 🤬 up game, or the same 200 Premiums and 800 Standards playing a FAR deeper, rewarding game? I know where I want my improvements to come from...

And online... well, don't even get me STARTED about how this piece of puppy poo could do with a LONG hard look at its' competitors and see where it is wrong. For starters... credits. I got to grind LTW because racing online causes car wear that I GOT to fix? :banghead: We can't make a multi-class race because the idiot leaderboard closes down 30 sec after the race has ended? The Lobby doesn't display cars needed until you get IN (unless the creator has enough brains - which most of them apparently don't - to put the requirement into the title) and look around. No easy One Spec, no lap times leaderboards....

These are SIMPLE patches, folks.

And if Kaz gives a 🤬 about the game users, THIS is what he's going to be working hard on for the next 12 months. Then he can start to think about expanding GT5's cars or courses (personally, I'll take a course over a dozen cars any day of the week and twice on Sundays!), and I'll happily pay for the DLC. But I'm not paying a PENNY until I have more events in A-Spec and a better online experience.

Time is ticking, Kaz-san.... Wax on, wax off. Wax on, wax off. Way I see it right now, he just wax off!

Well i would just like to say if any of you complainers have any f1 ferraris, X1 cars, heck any kind of valuable cars, feel free to gift them over to me before you return your games or burn then in a fit of anger over something that is not even 100% going to happen.

Actually no.

Around gtp I would say majority knew but we are hardly the norm.

Out on normal gamesites I saw plenty of people with no idea and to this day I still see people confused that not all cars have cockpits or not all cars look better than g5p.

In short that statement couldn't be much further from the truth.

And as for cancelling orders, a large part of the lies of omission was how pd didn't give enough info on standards to make an educated as to how much standards would impact your gameplay.

Even around here right up until launch there were still people who believed incorrect things about the quality of standards.

@Destinkeys

I have to agree with EVERYTHING you've said. Well said.

Ah, game saving during endurance races and between races of long series should be allowed, too... The first one, I believe too, is a must-do for every IQ>75... Who likes sitting 24 hours in a row in front of the TV a videogame? Or leaving the PS3 on too many hours...

The ONLY piece of DLC I would pay for would be the Seattle track remade from Gran Turismo 4.

Love that track, sucks it was not included in GT5 :(

edit: I read your post Destinkeys and I completely agree! Bring back dealership events!

If Davedander did not have over 3000 posts behind him, I would accuse him of trolling.

There is no mention of PAID content; so why the dramatic thread title, and then just offer up info read elsewhere on this site ?

If you read some of those 3000 post's, you'll understand.

And since when did this turn into an Anti-Capitalist thread? Jesus people, grow up, take your keyboard warrior skills out into the real world where you can make a difference, instead of bitching like little kids over a bit of DLC (that hasn't even been confirmed will be paid for yet) for a computer game, yes, A COMPUTER GAME !

First off, I never paid for DLC and I never will.
But as pointed out by Famine, I did not see yet where it is stated that we should pay for DLC.

Perhaps there will be some more events (dealership events please!), perhaps a few tracks into GT5 (Seatle, Spa, Apricot Hill please!) and perhaps some updates from standard into premium cars.
Just wait and we will find out I guess.

That GT5 isn't what it should have been is a typical IT problem. What is wrong with first-time right these days?
The comapany where I work has that motto, but the major IT developers just don' t want to, or can' t. That is very 1998 to me. :sly:

I'm repeatedly amazed, at how little, $60 and almost 6yrs is expected to provide in a GT game these days, for some people.

I might add, the art form of gaming is considerably more interactively based, than that of the Mona Lisa.

The bottom line is we all knew what we were getting before we bought it, PD released a track list and a car list, if you thought you should be getting more then you shouldn't have bought the game, quite simple really.

And I'd just like to add that I'll happily pay for any DLC that catches my eye, whatever the cost, with pleasure.

No offense, but you're part of the reason that companies can put out unfinished and disjointed games, and get away with it. They know people will happily dish out money without question (usually mommy and daddy's), so they don't have to worry much about quality anymore.

Nice.

I've only bought DLC for two other games before. In both cases, the content was made up of new items that went to support the devs so that they could get to work on a sequel. I have no problems with doing the same for the GT franchise, which I am a longtime fan of.

Some of the DLC I bought had terrible bugs in it, to the point where some of it couldn't even be used in certain game modes. The devs have had nearly a year to fix some of it, but have yet to even acknowledge that there is a problem. No refunds either. I'm confident that PD will have better quality control measures in place, and that's another reason why I don't mind paying for DLC from them.

I've paid for broken DLC in games that were just meant to kill time before GT5 came out. Of course I'd be willing to do so for GT5, a game from a franchise that I love.

The bottom line is we all knew what we were getting before we bought it

i didnt know if standard cars had cockpit or not... i searched only to find threads after threads of people saying yes AND no.
i didnt know gt5 had 5 year olds making the menu's
i didnt know we would have to go on and on with this ridiculous xp and money grinding
i didnt know b spec's prize money would be an absolute joke
i didnt know taking the license test's are pointless

can go on and on

the thing is they made this game and had a massive timeframe to do it and they still managed to give it a shiney paint job of 'midnight rush"

there is no way they should even be talking about DLC untill they fix the pile of 🤬 they left at our doorsteps

The first cars that should be upgraded to premium are RUFs.

The first cars that should appear as premium are a host of Porsche's. Leave the RUFs the way they are.

The cars that I miss MOST from Forza 3 are as follows:

599XX
FXX
360 Challenge Stradale
911 GT3 RS
911 Sport Classic
Boxster S '10
AM One-77
AM DBR-9
Koenigsegg CC8S
Koenigsegg CCGT
BMW M3 E30, E36 & E46
Ferrari F50 & F50 GT
Ferrari F40 Competizione
Mosler MT900s

I would pay money for all/any of these. I would also pay for everything that PD ever produce.

I support post-release content to the death! Unless it's horse armor.

really? we knew the replay wouldnt include any way to fastforward/rewind/pause? as well as all the other misses included in this game? I read the other night that someone on here was trying to level up/get some credits. they had their laptop sat infront of their TV playing movies while they were grinding a certain oval track! how messed is that? seriously, the hype they made for this game...this is the reason i bought a PS3, years ago when it seemed like GT5 was on the verge of release.

I've loved every other GT game to death. even GT3 which seemed to missing a few things (loads of cars specifically), but hell, i loved it anyways. GT4, amazing. absolutely amazing. I've killed so many hours on that damn game. and guess what, no premium/standard cars in there. didnt effect me at all. mind you, i bought those games without any sales pitch or grand promises.

The problem is, you promise something vaguely, then when it finally comes out its just not quite what you promised, however on a technicallity its not a lie. you know what i call people like that? used car sales people. thats how they operate. and that seems to be how PD is operating. vague statements and half truths.

I love certain parts of the game (GT5) to death. dont get me wrong. The base gameplay (physics and whatnot) are great and in keeping with the great history of this series. but every time i play it and need to use one of my standard cars for a certain race i just cant shake this sense of hollow victory for some reason. I have to click this menu and choose a poorly developed car in place of one of the beautiful, full interior cars they promised the game would be full of, which again is only partially true.

This is my big issue with the game, and i wont be paying for extras for a long time. and lets hope they wont be charging. With game titles creeping into the 70 dollar range (canadian) i expect that to cover whats promised. i have no problems paying for extra map packs for COD online games....i would have a problem if halfway through the campaign they said i needed to buy a map pack to complete it. I would have a problem if i unlocked a gun online and it was all ****** and pixelated and i needed to buy a gun pack to make it premium.....

In any case, this used car salesman feel i get from PD now, i wont be buying the next playstation iteration, or the next gran turismo iteration. simple as that. I think i'll buy an Xbox360 eventually (and eventually whatever else they develop for the next gen system). When you hold out all your hope and reasoning for buying a PS3 on one title and it falls short....its hard to make excuses for it

BTW, sorry for the long post. needed to vent. lol

So you want the impossible rather than the possible then?:scared:

This thread like the others, shows the GT Nations are divided. Which they will be on pretty much any personal complaint.

@No46_TheDoctor, you are on to something :)....

I think all its saying is to download the cars will be free but you still have to buy them in game with your credits!💡

They should be so interactive with models, see who is playing with what and make those into premiums.

Veyron, Vipers, and a few Astins is what I think they will start with, maybe a few group C cars as well.

Maybe offer a vote as to what future standard car upgrades people want the most.

How hard would that be? It seems for Japanese game makers these days that the days of
how they do business is gone. Its social network needed more than anything with something like GT, setup race days championships etc should be so easy.........
