Bought a PS4 today. First one. It was a limited edition GT silver console, that came with the game. I'm an older GT player and absolutely LOVED the game.

But what the hell is this? First off, I started the PS4 and seem to be locked out of everything, the only thing I am able to do is pick from a tiny list of cars, pick a map and have a single race? It's online only? Secondly how can it even be given the GT name when Gran Turismo mode does not even exist? I feel like it was called this to simply lure in players. I don't understand why this was done. Who thought it was a great idea to cut out potential customers? Why not have both career AND online.. Amazing right?

I pray your sales fall short, this version might make a good profit due to the fake name but I highly expect the next one to be a total failure. Seriously disappointed, won't ever be buying another GT game again.

You know this is not, like, the Polyphonney Digital official foram, right?

Games arent released as complete packages any more man, gotta wait for the good stuff

Really? Did you not think to read into what "sport" meant? Especially considering its not called GT7? Its been well known and documented for 2 years now.

Given the GT name? You’re not the one who decides what the name entails and what it owes you. I only see people this entitled on the internet, funny that.

Sales dont fall short en its not online only dont cry as a baby and spent some time with the game before crying. Oh and big update inbound!

It's not the first thread on this topic but it's the first I can remember of someone buying a ps4 for gts being uninformed of the game's format. No one is being tricked or duped at this point, all is known.

The feeling of entitlement is strong with this one.

To the OP if you'd bought the bundle within the first few days you'd have my sympathy as up until that point nobody was entirely sure about how much of the game would be online dependent, However its now a month later and the dust has settled, There are numerous reviews out there some praising GT:Sport others not so much based on it being a different direction for the franchise

Maybe it was sold under false pretenses given the history of the name that doesn't however detract from the fact that you could and should have done some research, Everything about Sport is known at this point in time.

Well, first things first:
1) If you just bought PS4 I've another bad piece of news for you, to play online you must have a PS+ subscription
2) I would love the game had a offline career mode, too
3) There isn't much to do from the start really

But, to be honest:
1) The PS+ is necessary for almost everything online on PS4, not any different from XBox Live Gold btw
2) Even if I would love to have a "GT Mode", It was widely publicized that GT Sport was essentially about the Sport (online) Mode and the FIA championships, there would be about 150 cars on the release and that would go to about 500 cars with DLC at the end of the game's life. You can accuse PD of many things but lure people to believe the game would be a sequel of GT6 was not one of them. Fortunately there will be a full GT League, similar to the other GT games career structure on a incoming big update just this month.
3) But you can always do the Challenge Section, with Driving School, Circuit Experience and Mission Challenges, there are many hours of gameplay there and you'll end up with about three dozens of free cars, most of them far better the ones available on arcade mode.

There is a huge offline mode - where you can create your own races. Pick any track, any car and and then pick opponents, race length, tyre wear, fuel consumption etc. You are limited by your imagination, and the AI capabilities. I enjoy setting up events that I can only just win, and edit these to make them a little more challenging.

It's online only?
Nope. There's a limited offline mode with a few different racing missions and challenges, along with the photomode, although the game is heavily focussed on the online racing/esports aspect. This has been well publicised for over 18 months.

An expanded offline mode is coming this month.

I pray your sales fall short
They're not our sales. We're not Gran Turismo.

Who throws £300 onto a console for one game without even looking up the most basic information about the game?

Same person who probably won't respond with a thank you to all the helpful people here who have responded to his misdirected rant with positive and helpful information :)

I don't completely understand why people ignore the Custom Race option.
With say 35 layouts, 15 car categories and 14 opponent categories - which therefore gives 7,350 different possible events. (Gp X becomes a one make race - counted Gp X as one category). Each of these can be run over a wide variety of conditions, such as number of laps, tyre wear, fuel consumption and AI level. Now add tuning, different tyre selection and other variables and we have a huge selection of offline races. So many, tempting to say that there are thousands of possibilities.

Fancy a 1 lap blast in a cobra against N1000 cars, or maybe a 2 hour endurance race with tyre wear and fuel consumption. Or whatever your imagination can come up with. With more cars, and tracks and hopefully dynamic weather - then we will have even more possibilities.

The only real issue I have, is that it is not possible to save a custom race set up - which means have a memory or a piece of paper. Although it is possible to change some elements after a race has been completed.

I wanted a custom race facility for years, and am thoroughly enjoying this feature. It probably does not suit many, but it is great feature to have. Especially for a casual gamer like myself, who only has the odd hour to enjoy a bit of gaming.

What is ironic is that you joined this forum for no other reason to complain about the game. Whereas if you had simply joined before you bought the game, looked at any of the 1000's of Amazon reviews, checked metacritic user reviews or even just went to the GT Sport homepage prior to buying an entire system for a game that you knew nothing about you would have known exactly what you were in for.

Erm I spent £700 on a 4k tv, £300 on a ps4 pro and £300 on a wheel just for gt sport not realising it mainly online and loving it. A game that will only get better with more updates...patience is the key.
Also got collectors edition.

The op is literally an alien. Not his fault he arrived only yesterday on this planet!
An alien here on gtplanet? Oh the irony..

With respect to the OP’s opinion, like you I’m also a geezer driver whose wallet stayed closed for the ‘other car racing game’ due to the inclusion of prize crat.. um, loot boxes . I don’t play online, but I found there are tons of stuff to do in the off-line mode, plus I like to experiment with the tuning/ testing the tuned cars on a race track, and the photo functions. Until now, I still have not completed the arcade mode yet.

Like others have said, there are more content coming, literally right around the corner just be patient
