An old Socom trick is to use the hostages as cover by running around amongst them when the enemy is close. Doing so indoors is the best way to do so, so no sniper will be able to get a shot at you from afar. When defending hostages try to make choke points so always stay indoors and make sure every direction is well covered. Same applies when the hostages are stationary awaiting extraction, just hold them off for as long as possible by making it difficult to not kill a hostage. However, when up against this tactic remember then you can afford to kill a hostage, and it might be useful to just take one down (and kill the enemy in the process) in order to gain control of the situation.

They had already tagged one of the hostages by accident at that point, I was indoor, so I took advantage of a situation that I knew would work in our favour.

That and I had three claymores around the only door.

:)

I really need same advice on this game, i am struggling to learn these maps & i keep getting killed by sameone i can see or i get lost in map & leave myself open to get killed.

So any advice will help.

Thanks

Avoid ranked matches to begin with, as the no respawn will never give you a chance to get used the maps and weapons. Stick to respawn matches, which can be a little more run and gun, but at least give you a chance to learn.

Following a team mate around can also hekp, as you will get used to cover points, etc.

Best of all keep an eye out for when we are on-line and join us. We have limited re-spawn practice matches most nights and always look to play as teams and help each other out (nice and friendly bunch that we are).

I don't know if I will get on tonight, fingers crossed I will.

Energiya played with me and Hereward earlier today in a few 16v16 ranked games and showed plenty of premise and potential to work both with us and as a single marksman.

The next step will be learning the maps, experimenting with weapons and learning a few tricks of the trade.

A big tip which you may have heard on the headset alot is when someone is saying 'guns hot' or 'guns up' followed by their location. Whenever an enemy is nearby or in your sightline and not to far away, your gun will be raised in a ready position (unless you're against a wall) which is a signal to you to be aware that an enemy is closeby. Telling your team-mates that your gun is up helps them to cover you, or be able to take the person out themselves if they can and similarly if you hear someone else say it and you know where they are, if you're in a position to help, do so.

I'm a bit loathed to say anything if I know someones really close as they can hear you and it loses you your advantage, I've heard so many enemy do it that I try to avoid it, but only when there right on top of me. Have to apologise for todays games, I was constantly having to awnser the phone which had me prety much dead when I came back to the game! Oh and has anyone had the in game sound go out on them, not the coms just everything else? has happend twice since the update....Imposable to play like that so I'm forced to reboot DOH!

I didn't experience anything like that all day, I heard you saying about it as we started the control game on Fallen I think. My Russian friend is getting Socom to so he might be joining our ranks as a support gunner come the weekend or next week.

Energiya the lag issue seems to have been solved for you with the patch as there were americans english and a couple of australians including you in that 32 player ranked match on the english server. Wait till you get on one of our clan games......everyone uses the coms and it's far less run and gun....yeah I know it didn't seem it but some of those games we played had quite a bit of non tactical play plus half our team wasn't using headsets.

I hope I can meet up with you guys tonight if you're playing. I am going to try and get some SOCOM in tonight !

I'll be on later too, bee good to do some more inter clan matches, to hone our teamwork and skills. 👍

I think it would be more beneficial to open a room up that restricts the amount of players so the amount of GTP users online can practically fill one side and leave the randomers to the rest. Of course it will need to be a mix until enough people join, but I found it much better learning with just a few people you know amongst a large team, rather then playing a small game. Having our little 3 man squad yesterday was good because we had a more versatile enemy to adapt against with a large variety of enemy styles, playing each other will only teach us to combat each others style which all seem similar anyway. Just my 2 cents, thats how every clan I've been in since Socom 1 has done it pretty much, only set pieces were done privately and normally done with no active enemies, setting up the positions and then going public and trying it out.

Will anyone in the clan be on tonight?

I haven't had a chance to catch you guys in awhile.
Our 4 hour time difference makes it kind of hard. I have noticed thought, that scaff, and hereward are pretty much night owls. I'm pretty sure that you are 4 hours ahead of me, and some times I seen you guys on at midnight, and later.

I could probably get 3 or 4 of my U.S. clan guys on tonight to play with or against us. They would make for some really good games. I would love to play against them with a few of you, and show them how much teamwork really does work.

For some reason it's really hard to get them to work as a team alot of the time. Most of the time I try and just follow one of them. I'll tell them I will watch our flank, so let me know if you're going to move forward. 9/10 times I get killed from the direction that they were watching and they are nowhere to be found.

They are all fairly good shots, but just don't understand the importance of working as a unit. It would be really funny to beat them with you guys, since we have all had the game since october. It might actually get them to work together, if we could put a few beatings on them.

Anyway, I hope to see some of you guys on here tonight, just give me a time, and I should be there.

I may be on later (I am a night owl my normal gaming times are 11pm to 1.30am UK time), but it depends on one rather large factor.

My 13 year old daughter is having a sleep-over and the house is currently full of kids (and I'm hiding in the office watching old episodes of the UNIT and drinking beer), fingers crossed I can banish them all from the living room in time to get a few round in later on.

Pfft, 3:00 AM and I'm about to sign out of PSN. I'll be back on Socom next week, I run a clan on MCLA so I have to juggle priority about with my gaming.

Ok there will be a rwcruiting push. see anyone who could be an asset, (team players) invite them in patch 1.42 has hit so 1.50 should be very soon, that shoould be the start of clan match options.

I don't know how much you guys have played since the newest ps3 update. The new party text chat thing has really got me aggravated.

The 360 has a thing called party where 10 people can join a chat and talk no matter what game they are each doing on the 360. They can all be playing different games, but still talk. For me, it has ruined shooters on the 360, because now any friends in the game can still talk even after the die. They can give away your position to players who have not died yet. People also stay in their party chats, instead of joining the game chat, so if your not their friend, you can not talk to them, and team work is lost.

For the ps3 the text chatting is being used to cheat also. Last night, almost every game I played, people in the lobby that were in the same clan would ask if they are in their text chat. At the end of every round I would hear people say "did you get that text, I told you he was on the roof" or something to that measure.

I fear for what this is going to do to socom. Dead people are now going to be spotters, and it's going to be really hard to set and defend an area. Once 2 or 3 people on the other team are dead, they will certainly start texting their friends still in the game.

I really hope that developers have the option to disable text chatting while you are playing their game. If not, tactical shooters are really going to be changed. They are going to require alot more movement then they do now. For example: On crossroads when you're the only one left, and the other team has the bomb, it is going to be really hard to camp the base and wait. Once you shoot someone, the rest of the team will know right where you were.

Anyway, I guess this is more of a rant then anything, but I just can't stand for socom to have this happen to it. I feel like I am losing the only good online shooter out there. It is definitely going to be changed by the texting, and it will be for the worse.

Hmm the 360 chat system is different from the PS3 system, we used it to great advantage the other day, not to cheat in the game but to get everyone into the right server quickly. because it's text base and the way it works there are 2 things stopping you from cheating in game the way you described...
1 the time it takes for a "dead spoter" to see an unsighted enemy, open his party text chat then type in the message with enough detail to pinpoint the enemy location would make it an awkward and slow sytem.
2. when you open the text chat screen you effectively can't see the gameing action, rendering your usefulness as a spoter to that of a man wearing a blindfold!
Now I do know what you mean about the 360 system, you can simply tell a person and describe vocaly the enemy location thus giving them many pairs of eyes and more importantly he can talk back to his dead spoters. For you to talk back to your dead spoters on the PS3 you turn into a blind sitting duck.
The system is very good allowing you to have 16 people in text chat independant of what games there in and you can have upto 4 "text rooms" on the go at any time plus your message apears as a notice in the top right hand corner of all part members who haven't got there chat screen open, meaning in effect you can chat with 64 people almost simultaniously!
I realy wouldn't worry about FPS espeialy SOCOM being effected buy this PS3 system as it's to slow and cumbersom to be used as a cheating method though it really is an ideal system to get people in the same room, far more quicker than the old method of PM friends.

There were several rounds on crossroads last night were the other team was talking after the game, saying things like "nice text" . One in particular was on crossroads, where there was only one of us left. He was sniping down the right road from the seal spawn. He was in the building beside the spawn. He set there for about 1 minute and then grenades started coming from the half wall and the embassy. There is no way they could have known where he was without this new feature. It was a demo map, so thee was no reason for him to be in that spot. Even the people on our team didn't know why he was there.

Hopefully with the kill cam getting reduced to 5 seconds in the new update coming, it will really cut down on it. Another thing that would help all forms of cheating would be to eliminate being able to control the camera while spectating.

Hmm I see how you could cheat with it and yeah if theres a will theres a way.....and with some people they WILL ALLWAYS want to cheat because winning is ALL!!!! ahem, aparently. but it really isn't that easy to cheat like this, first up you would need to be standing near a dead enemy for them to be able to spot you, then that enemy would need to be in a chat with whoever was left in the game.........to combat it, if you suspect it's going on just either keep away from dead enemys or keep changeing location. Also maake a verbal issue about it in the lobby afterwards......personaly I'd simply kick anyone gloating that theyed sent info whilst dead.

well 4 of us went into a couple of clan matches on the EU clan server, up against an american clan....suprise suprise LOL well we lost the first match and won the second.....Scaff you left just as the tide turned in our favour LOL

Not that those two things are connected in any way :sly:

Great games last night. We just need to get more synchronized, work in better groups that is...

Sorry I had to get off so early last night, just plain exhausted from a weekend with a house full of my daughters friends.

The early matches I played in I was fairly terrible, but the last few were much, much better.

Despite the made Spanish guy running off with the hostages to catch a helicopter which was never going to come, which had the other side had more than one guy left could have lost the match for us. I must confess I did swear at him a bit when he was jumping up and down (right out in the open) demanding to know why the helicopter wasn't coming, I then pointed out that as mercs the entire point was not to get the hostages to teh helicopter, rather to prevent that happening (but my words may have been a bit more colourful.

Then on the very last few matches despite loosing overall I have a blinding few rounds, even managing to get a few 'tick' for the weapon awards. 5 assault rifle kills with 15% accuracy and 7 kills with 20% accuracy both in that last match.

I have to say that SOCOM does take the award for having the hardest to get trophies of any title on the PS3.

Fingers crossed I will be back on tonight and I hope for a but longer.

I'm getting tired of the running and gunning on the Call of Duty series online. However when my clan and I get together and work the maps tactically we tend to own the other teams badly, its rather amusing hearing them call us hacks...lol. I'm 36 years old and I'm sure gaming with people my age who take this serious(but still have fun of course) but being ex military myself I realize how much teamwork helps in combat situations. Where I'm getting at is if I go out and buy the game, other than being a n00B would I get any help or would I have to die alot and learn the hard way. I just hate losing...losing sucks. Any help or advise would be much appreciated. Thank you

Well as the saying goes, no pain no game. Learning maps simply takes time so you will be an easy target for the first couple of games but it doesn't take that long to get a good idea of the layout. As for the fighting itself it's pretty easy to get used to what to do and what not to do in a firefight and get out of the groove of COD4 play style. Ask your fellow team-mates in a game if you have any questions, even if it sounds 'nooby' such as 'where do I take the hostages?', 'how do i capture a control point?' etc. Most people (an in EU server at least) will offer a helping hand if you be a team player and try to do what you can with communication. The only new guys who learn the hard way are the mutes who don't talk, it's that simple.

Thank you for the info I look forward to playing it. I'm going to trade in COD WaW for the game this weekend.

Question, Why has my SOCOM stats reset, i have done at least 15 matches, now it says 0

Unless it's due to Hereward demoting me then promoting me.

Woha now! everyone has a promotion invite.....you just need to accept it in your message box and it shouldn't reset your stats?

Guys

Sorry I have not been around the last few nights, been very busy and also had a cold.

However Mrs Scaff is out tonight so I should be on from 9pm onwards for a good few hours.

Played a few matches last night with randoms. Some good firefights.

Have to say that all my front page stats have also reset, glad however to see that my medal stats have been left alone. Now those I would be a big annoyed if I lost.

I have a friend coming around tonight, who I am going to introduce to SOCOM, he has a PS3 but has not yet bought the game.

So if anyone else is around for some clan practice tonight it would be better than showing him a random room. Should he wish I will also give him a go under my log-in, he's a good guy and sound with regard to tactics, etc (used to shoot here in the UK under the government took away guns), but will obviously be a big un-practiced but we will try and keep the proximity chatter down.

Disapering stats..............................IT WASN'T ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL anyway, I'll be on tonight, been off myself for a bit, looking foreward to some clan gamers. as for proximity chat....it really is good for just chatting or showing new guys around without tieing up the com chanel, just remember the enemy can hear you when your close. I take it your going to double team as snipers?
