Sony will no longer make F1 games?

Does anyone have a copy or a link to the "recent uk gamespot podcast" that apparently has an official confirmation that Sony wont make any F1 games?

It sounds like this might be some kind of "lost in translation" rumor. For instance, IIRC Sony reps have mentioned for some time now that they did not have plans to renew their current F1 license, but that doesn't mean they won’t purchase a different type of F1 license that would allow them to use F1 cars in their games.

I'm not a fan of exclusive licenses any way... that's how we get stuck with EA quality games.

I agree, lack of competition on the most part produces lousy games, if they have the exclusive rights to something they don't try as hard because your gonna have to buy it from them, e.g. nascar 08.

This F1 news somewhat contradicts the other news from PD saying GT5 will have Ferrari F1 cars (which would require the Ferrari Licence or the F1 licence?, or both, im not sure).....

.....whatever it is its kind of confusing at the moment, it would be a shame to see F1 go from Sony, back to lets say EA....*shudders at memory of F1 2001*:nervous:

Well, as it isn't an F1 game it may just need the cars licensed, or it may fall under the old license since it was being developed at that time.

I really think this just means they won't make another F1 only game under the current license.

Here's a link that was posted on GameFaqs:

The F1 related commentary is supposed to be about 10mins in but I have not verified this myself yet.
Thanks for the link. I just played it, and the only mention on Sony F1 games was one comment from one of the hosts made 15 minutes and 15 seconds into the podcast.

Sony aren't producing any F1 games anymore. I didn't realize that, but apparently they aren't. So they aren't bringing another one out.
No explanation on who from Sony told him that and no mention on the use of F1 cars in other games, so I don't think we can say this is any kind of official confirmation on future F1 games or F1 cars in other games.

Qualifying with "but apparently" really doesn't inspire confidence in the speaker's claim now does it

I suppose I'm still sticking with the impression that all the "official" silence regarding the subject is pretty damn deafening. F1:CE has shown so much potential... why it's been left out to blow in the wind is just baffling to me. :grumpy:

I've heard about Sony supposedly not renewing the F1 licence. Does that mean they'll never make an F1 game or just that they no longer have exclusivity? Not having exclusivity is no problem to be honest. As long as a good F1 game is made for the PS3 or 360 I'm happy. But if a large payout for the licence has to be made then maybe we won't see an F1 game for a while.

Although the silence may be a sign that Sony is still negotiating for some kind of F1 license.

Agreed, but F1 may be asking for too much money, thus no matter how much potential is there, it might not be worth the effort?

Personally, no matter how this all plays out, it wont keep me from thorughly enjoying F1:CE, which in my opinion is by far the best F1 game on consoles, and arguably the best over-all on any platform. 👍

Yeah well that's technically possible, but at this point in time do you really believe that is occurring?

Agreed, appreciating what one has is always good advice. And we will always be able to enjoy the coding grandness (well mostly grandness) that is F1:CE

Maybe. I mean, we know they're #@?/&$%£s, but fat? Surely, one or two of them might be obese... but it's a sweeping generalisation to say they're all lardasses.

I sense a 'football' hooligun in the making.

In that case instead of F1 games might I suggest FIFA... and a sedative? ;)

So does anyone know if we'll see an F1 game on the ps this year.
Yes...

Well obvious to you perhaps, but when I see someone type "an F1 game on the ps this year." then yes, F1:CE certainly fits that category. As for "an F1 game based on the 2007 season, on the ps this year" then I would have to say there is no evidence there will be, especially seeing as F1:CE just came out (yes it’s based on last year’s season, but it is still a new game) and there is no talk about any upcoming F1 game, as discussed in this thread.

Now who knows, maybe Sony's silence is that they are still trying to negotiate for some kind of deal, and like F1:CE, F1:CE 2007 might come out next year, but all we are doing now is speculating. It certainly would be nice if we had a better idea what is really happening right now in terms of future F1 game licenses.
