If you've checked out the news page you'll see that there is a new group of seasonal races, one of the track featured is Spa-Francorchamps.

Do you think it's fair that games who haven't purchased the track through DLC will be able to race on it? (Myself included. This will be my first run here.)

What's your take? Please leave the BS at the door and only bring in valid comments and opinions. If you're making a statement, base it on fact to avoid arguments please.

I don't see a problem with it. You still can't use Spa to host your own room online and you have to have the DLC to join a Spa room now.

Those who bought it when it originally came out have had two months of exclusive use of it. Those that didn't buy it, had to initially race online via a lobby to get their go, then that was removed. It's a marketing ploy, to shift some more DLC.

It doesn't really bother me as much as now, I was more annoyed when non payers could play spa via online lobby straight away.

It's a tough call really.

Personally, I think they would have been better off leaving it paid only to race it, but then again, that's some serious bad press to do that. You know people would be fumed. So I think in the end they did the right thing for a number of reasons.

1. It's free advertisement for the DLC in a way which is good.

2. The influx of whining and crying over it would have been enough to make most people just cringe every time the track was mentioned. Probably a good thing we don't have to hear it. The people who bought the DLC wouldn't want to deal with it.

3. Not being able to finish a Seasonal only because of DLC would kinda suck and seem awful cheesy. Kind of like forcing people to pay to play. Buy our stuff or go away is not a message they want to throw out there.

4. It gets people to try it out. It's a scary looking track and a little intimidating for the first time racing on that. I know I wasn't sure if I would like it when I saw it for the first time. I was a late buyer of the tracks. I picked it up for Christmas and I'm still not sure about whether or not I like it, though I am leaning toward awesome now. What's funny is watching the B-spec guy do it over and over buying me cars all week long made me like it now.

So I think it's a good thing as long as they still keep the lobbies a place to only have the people who paid for it. Otherwise, it's a little useless to have paid.

As B Spec, it's not really an issue, in fact it's probably a good advert.
As A Spec, it's no worse than the 'course designer' tracks, in that you can race on it, but only under a specific set of parameters.

No, I don't think its fair. I was able to drive on Spa (before I got the DLC) in an online lobby; the host had chosen the track, but I didn't check if I was able to choose Spa in an online lobby (When I'm host) before downloading the DLC. Its therefore nearly a waste of money, for you can play the track in the seasonals and online for free. For those that payed for the track, the only exclusive they get is being able to use the track in Arcade or Practice mode, which is barely anything compared to the online features of the track. This can also be exploited, and basically will take away money from PD. PD needs to do something about this, I think; either make the track free, or lock it's online availability to users without DLC. If they make the track free, then they've just ripped off every user who downloaded the track, though.

Its for one event with a specific PP of cars I don't think the people who bought dlc have much to complain about really, plus as mentioned above its free advertising for the dlc for people who despise online racing and didn't try it out before. Now if it was like 3 or more races on spa with increasing PP's then yes it should be exclusive to dlc buyers. (I still don't have the dlc and wouldn't complain if they locked this race I just wouldn't play haha)

I feel you have to pay to play, such as life.
You can't go running around a Call of Duty map pack without depositing some chips at the door.
So I guess that would be yes, unfair. Pay to play.

I don't have the DLC but am a little upset that the track is featured as a 'race-for-free' track...

Why?

Well I really want PD to give me a reason to buy the DLC! I don't race online but would like to see the track featured in some decent A-spec/B-spec events (as with any further track DLC).

However, with the current set-up there is little incentive to purchase the DLC :-(

I will race the new A-spec race and enjoy doing so - but I'd like to see the track put to better use for us non online racing ppl...

The problem is that PD doesn't explain what they're doing. People had access to Spa for free online... then without warning, they didn't. Now it's suddenly free in the Seasonal.

IMO they should have left it free online forever, and locked it for use offline. Then add some nice Seasonals with the track to encourage people to buy it.

I didn't realize that the online features of Spa were closed off to non-DLC users... I didn't have much time to play after Update 2.02, so I didn't examine this. I actually still haven't driven on Spa on my own time yet since getting the DLC... Or Kart Space...

So you can disregard SOME of my previous post.

I would like to see some exclusive events for the track DLC's - in the form of either A - Spec or B - Spec events, or DLC exclusive events, but still keep some free DLC track events as advertisement/preview. If this happens, I'd like to see some more Endurance races; like maybe with the next big update before the DLC, add some Endurance races for the DLC tracks. (24hrs of Spa, Spa 1000km, etc.) Maybe add Silverstone and some events for it. (Like the 24hr race Top Gear entered in... I don't remember what it was called.) Also, just add more events for A-spec and B-spec or even Special in these theoretical updates.

Doesn't bother me at all I paid for spa and I can drive on when ever I want, so I got what I paid for. I'm totally fine with PD allowing people who didn't purchase the track race in one event offline. I was fine with them joining lobbies of people who had the track aswell, anyway I've raced on that track alot and whatever way I look at it I got my money's worth.

Doesn't worry me in the slightest. I have the DLC so I can race on the track with whatever car, whenever I want. I see including Spa in the Seasonals as more akin to a game demo. In those you typically get one level/limited playability so you can try before you buy, same way for this seasonal.

Exactly my thoughts.

Personally, I think it's ok for DLC tracks to be put on seasonals, as long as it has an expiry period and not be put on forever. I find online physics to be incomplete and wonky in the first place, so offline is actually where players can truly enjoy the driving experience on any given track.

And by putting DLC tracks as a Seasonal Event rather than online, PD can give players a taste of DLC tracks without allowing them to mess around with the settings in online rooms as if you bought the DLC.

I don't think its fair, on balance, really.
I think that getting a track, some cars and some gear/paints etc as a DLC is limited. What PD should have included was a bundle of tailored A-Spec (and Bspec) races to give the DLC a purpose and much more exclusivity. And if those who had bought the DLC felt that they had bought something that was exclusive and had good depth (ie. lots of different styles of races), then I don't think that 1 race on the track of the DLC would be a problem.

It would be interesting to see how people feel if there were DLC-car-only races as seasonals. Would that be fair/unfair?

I wish they left the online anyone could join a Spa room so I could actually use my track with friends ... and they should cut its use from the seasonal.

Its a tough call, I purchased the DLC, and personally I am not really bothered, but I can see how other people would be annoyed.

However, when the DLC came out, you could host some great Spa lobbies and some pretty damn good kart races with 10+ players easily, everyone would join. But now you only get a handful of people join your DLC lobbies.

I personally would rather they hadn't locked online DLC lobbies to only people who had bought it. I would rather everyone get a chance to play, and then we could get some more decent races going

Doesn't bother me at all. I didn't buy the DLC just to get it, it's to support PD too and I would be happy even if they gave it out as a Christmas gift.

I was hoping for a whole series of Spa-Francorchamps themed seasonal events, endurance, championships etc. You purchase Dlc on shift 2, and you get these events added automatically. I'm sure they could add a Dlc seasonal event icon on the Gt life screen, but this seems to be a fundamental problem with Pd, they just can't get the 'game' part of GT5 right.

+1! 👍

^This. Quite frankly, I don't care what PD decides to do about DLC tracks in the future. If, for example, if tomorrow PD decides to give everyone full permanent access to spa I could honestly care less. I think its quite selfish to buy something and when other people do things that don't effect you in any way shape or form what so ever to get mad about it. Its not like they took away my DLC which I paid for. Whats done is done. Get over it. Pow!

A lot of the 'its mine and you can't have it' ,stems from the map packs associated with Call of Duty and the like. And look how mature that community is.

It doesn't bother me now, just on initial release a few exclusive events would have been nice.

I don't care who uses the track, because I'm not greedy.

I thought it slightly odd when I logged in this morning and saw the new seasonal had Spa as one of the tracks. I've always thought I'd buy the dlc if it started cropping up in the seasonals, since I don't do online racing. As it turns out, I don't need to...

its a great way to let people try out the course. Im sure it has led to more sales. If you actually have a problem with this you need mental help.

Don't worry Shem, I bought the DLC within minutes of it coming out and I haven't driven Spa either. Too busy testing on the Nurb and car collecting via the seasonals.

I'm not that fussed about Spa being available as a seasonal, in fact this time would inevitably come. I'm quite surprised it hasn't come sooner as it may have 'encouraged' players to buy the packs - but that's just cynical old me. As far as I'm aware though, if you don't have the pack you still can't practice on it or set up your own rooms, so it is heavily restricted.

Also, it's not a lot of money really... ;)

I think, it would be nice if there would be special seasonals with DLC tracks and available only for those who purchased DLC. That would be really good motivation to buy it.
As for me: i use only A-Spec and Seasonals. I don't use online lobby or practicing feature.
So, for me there would be absolutely no reason to by DLC tracks, although i've bought it.

Honestly having additional tracks for those who don't like to race online in GT5 is almost useless. Give us A-spec constructor to make our own offline competitions with prizes then DLC tracks will be useful.

I really don't care if DLC tracks are avalable for everyone in seasonals, but if to look from marketing point of view then it's a big mistake from PD. If i would be poor child then i wouldn't buy DLC tracks at all and saved money for something not accessible freely.

The policy of DLC in NFS Shift is much better and more attractive: If you bought DLC tracks then you get additional competitions as well. I like this idea and it give me more motivations to buy.
