Spa for Seasonals. Fair for those who PAID for DLC?

I definitely think it's a great way for PD to market the DLC and/ or Spec II disk. I'm sure if I run Spa for the first time and really enjoy it I'll be plundering the use of some relatives credit card to buy it and the other cars.
 
I bought the track and I have no issue at all with it being used in an online special event.

It is a very good way of advertising the track to people who haven't already bought it and I'm sure it will increase sales of the track.

As for those of you that think it not acceptable for people who haven't bought it, I am in no way whatsoever an elitist who insists that only people who pre ordered a limited edition of the game should be the only ones who should have access to stealth or chrome cars or that only people who buy DLC should be the only ones to race at Spa.

Games should be inclusive and bring people together not exclusive and drive people apart into their own little clans of haves and have-nots.
 
I think PD are doing it because:

a) this was heavily requested among the community and they do have a history of giving us what we ask for

b) They are giving those who didn't buy the DLC a taste of what the content is like. Thus hopefully increasing sales.
 
I agree with earlier posts; this only means you can do the Seasonal, not use it outside of that unless you buy the DLC. Maybe they are trying to push it so people which haven't bought the track pack will as a minimum?
 
got the dlc... wouldn't bother me if spa would be free for all one time...
only when I had paid a higher amount than those few euros...
 
I'm so glad to actually have it as a seasonal at long last! And it doesn't bother at all that people haven't bought it can do the seasonal. I think it should have been in the game from the beginning and should of came as an update........But I still paid for it
 
I have the DLC and think it's good to see more tracks being used for seasonal events. I hope there's more on the way too and I don't mind chipping in a few quid every now and again to help encourage things along.

If you've checked out the news page you'll see that there is a new group of seasonal races, one of the track featured is Spa-Francorchamps.

Do you think it's fair that games who haven't purchased the track through DLC will be able to race on it? (Myself included. This will be my first run here.)

What's your take? Please leave the BS at the door and only bring in valid comments and opinions. If you're making a statement, base it on fact to avoid arguments please.

I have paid for some of the DLC (the overpriced car pack 2) and I can recall that one of the better cars, the FT-86, was included for free, all seasonals are free, along with a multitude of other free content given to us, so while I may've bought this with a bunch of other track in a 'track pack', Im happy for it to be free.
 
First of all I don't really care about people being able to use this track for free now in the seasonals. I think it is nice that everyone can experience the content now.

Secondly, as seasonals are pretty much all I do in GT5 (and some practice mode, but only on a small selection of tracks) I will probably not buy the next track pack, because I will eventually get everything I want from it for free.
PD took a completely different road than all other developers. Some give the 'area' for free, but make you pay for the content (MCLA), some make you pay for the area and the content (Burnout, most FPS games) but I have never heard of a game that is kinda-freeish-but-not-completely-and-we're-not-going-to-tell-how-it-works like.

Conclusion: I don't think it is unfair, but the vague way in which PD handles the DLC will make me think twice about buying the next track pack.

Which I don't really mind as long as they don't go crazy like allowing non-DLC buyers to buy/trade for a DLC car. Allowing them to join Spa rooms was a 💡 though - kept the track full and allowed for a variety of rooms (free run, karts, GT500, F1, etc.) instead of the norm we have now...which is a couple of PP rooms.

I don't mind if they can drive on it, but if they get to use it in arcade, create online rooms, etc. with Spa/kart space, then I'll be pissed.

Heck, I'm happy they added Spa as a seasonal. Perfect track to grind endlessly that won't bore you unlike La Sarth. Also abit of an advert - "Like this track? Go buy it and keep Spa online interesting!"

I'm glad people who dont have the DLC get to try it, it's a awesome track and everybody should be able to have a go on it.

And yes I have all DLC.
 
wouldnt this be thesame as the cars that ya pay for and others dont, but you end up seeing the cars in the ucd/ocd anyways?
 
I bought the DLC but I think it's fair to let everyone use Spa (on the seasonal) because PD didn't manage to solve the "strange mix" issue, you know users with different region disk and Psn. They can't just say (like EA would) "it's your problem screw you". Let's not forget online you can't use Spa anymore if you don't have the DLC, so they know they have to keep their fans in latin America (and all those countries with Psn/disk issues) almost quiet. The "strange mix" issue is a big loss of earnings for PD/Sony, maybe they are working on it, in the meanwhile they use this workaround.

I'm not concerned with Spa in the seasonal because as mentioned it's one specific race. It's no different then their maddening layouts of Eifel and Mt Aso. Those that do not have the DLC cannot practice on Spa either.

I did have a problem with using it online if you didn't pay for it. One guy buys it, and everyone runs hundreds of laps to get used to it. Those "moochers" as my friend called them have plenty of experience on the track and can mop up easy credits on this seasonal now.

My issue with PD and Spa and DLC in general is; what am I supposed to do with it? I don't play enough to spend an awful lot of time online, and I get too frustrated with the demolition derby punk kid atmosphere I seem to encounter online. So I spend most of my time in the game offline in A-Spec. I've used a DLC car once in offline A-Spec mode. That was running a Tuned Scirocco in Schwarzwald B. So I *could* use it. I just didn't *have* to.

I would love to run a F2010/FGT/F2007 race at Spa. Heck, I'd settle for 20 laps with that stupid little Prius TC. Something to make me feel like I got some value out of buying it. As was mentioned in the thread, a DLC buyers only seasonal. DLC cars vs DLC cars would be awesome.

And just for fun make the payout huge, and the reward ticket untradeable. Maybe something like a credit towards the next DLC or something.

I don't have the DLC but am a little upset that the track is featured as a 'race-for-free' track...

Why?

Well I really want PD to give me a reason to buy the DLC! I don't race online but would like to see the track featured in some decent A-spec/B-spec events (as with any further track DLC).

However, with the current set-up there is little incentive to purchase the DLC :-(

I will race the new A-spec race and enjoy doing so - but I'd like to see the track put to better use for us non online racing ppl...

An option for non-online players is Arcade mode, especially now that you can set the difficulty level for the AI too - makes it a challenging race on any track you have. So I think the DLC is a worthwhile purchase, even for those who do not go online.

As for how fair that is - not really an issue for me. I bought it but am happy for others to have access to it in such events as the Seasonals. PD keep providing new events so I think it's up to them how they choose to entice players - after all, many other racing game devs have been far less forthcoming and pulled some quite greedy stunts in the past with regard to DLC.
 
I have not bought any DLC packs yet, hoping to nab the final edition blu-ray instead. I have tried the online Spa version and quite like it, now that PD allows me to try the offline Spa physics with the latest Seasonals, it is getting fairly tempting for me to just punch in my credit card details and take the leap. Darn you PD ! :sly:

Had I bought it previously, I would not mind PD's decision to do a Seasonal on Spa. It's a nice marketing move and will probably bring in more sales. What other players are getting is for the most part none of my business at all. We all have our own 'game'. 👍

Suggetions for this Seasonal Spa :
For those who have NOT bought Spa yet, you can also use it as your personal Time Trial track, with ANY car & tires up to 750PP.

And currently there is NO expiry date to this event yet (it will after they read this post! :dopey:)

Previously there was a thread mentioning Spa Not Playable Online after 2.02, and some users were vocal with that decision. I find it interesting to compare their opinion consistency versus this thread, by reading the other thread, here. Just for fun. :)

Personally I don't care and if I could I would gift the track to others that don't have it. PD has to make money for its efforts so I don't mind buying a DLC.
I'm just happy to have the game and have gotten a lot of pleasure playing it. A year later and I am still playing the game almost on a daily basis,that is good value in my eyes.
 
It would be absolute fair to have an option of 2 different tracks (Spa and another one) to be able to run the Seasonals depending on whether having the DLC or not. Definitely though, I have no problem to having bought DLC and letting everyone who didn't to race in it in a seasonal. I bet that many of the lasts will get the DLC after they race in SPA these days.
 
Speaking for myself, the inclusion of Spa in this latest round of seasonals was very much appreciated, even though i have not purchased any DLC. and everyone here who has purchased DLC is showing GREAT maturity by not getting upset and making a fuss that those of us who have not paid for the track can at least have a go and see if we want to buy it not 👍


PS, as has been stated several times already, i would be more inclined to buy DLC if it came with additional game content...but that's off topic...sort of.
 
So basically I wasted my money. I don't do arcade. I cannot play online with my so called friends because it was locked. What I really wanted was sesonals. Now I've got it but I needn't have to spend any money.

i'm not buying any DLC tracks if i can't share em with all my friends.

Imagine, by the time there are ten DLC tracks available, you'd need to exclude all those tracks if you wanted to include all the players in an online race series.
 
I actually think there should be more Spa races.
I mean,whats the point of having a track with no races ?
 
I dont have a problem with and and bought the DLC. I'm just happy I get to use it now. This is the first time since buying the pack that I even raced on it. LOL

Most DLC becomes free eventually. With the exception of GT5, I don't buy a game until the "Game Of The Year" or "Ultimate Edition" comes out. It's the reason I haven't bought Skyrim yet, because I know that sometime next year, it will come out with DLC content, but be $30-$40 cheaper.
 
I am still fairly new to this generation of gaming. Anyhow, if you're asking if it's fair or foul to have Downloadable Content tracks to be raced on for those who haven't paid for it... I'm going to say "fair." It isn't like you're REQUIRED to download something just to enjoy it.

Let me use another game as an example of what I am trying to say. When I used to play ModNation Racers, there were the Far East and Big City themes had to be purchased. I used to do the XP races, and some of the races were some of the ones from the DLC themes. Buying either or both themes entitles me to build tracks using this environment. Since I did not have either environment (and still don't), it was still great to know I can still race on these tracks without needing to have the DLC in question.

So I think it's completely fair to be able to race on DLC tracks if you haven't paid for them. Let's not make it sound like you're getting a free ride or special treatment just because you haven't paid for the DLC content. If anything, be thankful you're getting a chance to do these courses. Or look at it this way- seeing and racing these DLC tracks may spark your interest in buying them. So you are kind of play-testing these courses even though they are part of a proper Seasonal.


Fair or foul? I say "fair." Completely fair.

I don't see a problem with it. You still can't use Spa to host your own room online and you have to have the DLC to join a Spa room now.

Those who bought it when it originally came out have had two months of exclusive use of it. Those that didn't buy it, had to initially race online via a lobby to get their go, then that was removed. It's a marketing ploy, to shift some more DLC.

It doesn't really bother me as much as now, I was more annoyed when non payers could play spa via online lobby straight away.

That sums up my position perfectly. I bought the DLC, enjoyed it, and am glad to see it in an A-spec seasonal, and am quite glad others get to try out the track to see if it's something they'd buy or not. I have no regrets about buying, and no ill will towards those who didn't and now get to enjoy the glory that is Spa.

If this happens, I'd like to see some more Endurance races; like maybe with the next big update before the DLC, add some Endurance races for the DLC tracks. (24hrs of Kart Space, Spa 1000km, etc.)
