Spa for Seasonals. Fair for those who PAID for DLC?

Even after a year, most people who bought the premium editions of the game will flame the board if anyone mentions putting up the chromelines and stealth cars as dlc, so I think a lot of this has to do with elitism in the game.

Maybe what PD really ought to do is have some dlc only events published along with the normal ones, like "Sciroccos at Spa" just to keep people sweet who did buy. I think if they were published 'instead of', then that would upset just as many.

I feel like I ought to care more about this, since I coughed up for the dlc and don't really think I've had the best value from it, but I don't.
 
i didnt buy the dlc and i think it is slightly unfair. obviously i cant drive on these tracks whenever i want but i don't really do practice runs anyway so i really have no need to buy them.

i did also play forza 2 & 3 a lot though and one of the biggest issues i had with those games was how they kept forcing you to buy **** you didnt want just to get a) the new dominant leaderboard/online lobby car or b) a new track to keep your rank up or so you can play it online. if you didn't pay up you had a huge disadvantage.

at least with the gt5 dlc your still on a level playing field if you don't want it/can't afford it which is how it should be imo.
 
They should make the dlc cars available for use just in the seasonals too (even if it's just one event).
 
I think it's unfair, it should be exclusively for those who have payed for it. Then again, people who are cheap and haven't bought it would whine how they couldn't compete in a seasonal event.
 
I would just like to say I have the DLC before I post this.
Now that they have stopped you driving on Spa online and it wasn't announced PD have given the people that don't have it a chance to use it.

I also think that since they have taken it off from online for people that don't have it, it's filtered out the 10 year olds in X1's

If this was Facebook, I'd "like" the comment SlyckTires made in Post #61. Why not some Seasonals for those bestowed with certain DLC cars? I don't think the whole DLC issue is any real issue unless you're talking about different game modes. Like for example, the Casino to Test Drive Unlimited 2. So I think it's pretty fair to still be able to race a DLC track you don't have. The only extent of this is in tracks.

Why don't we ask a similar question? For example, let's say that PD comes along with a Time Trial Seasonal around Laguna Seca limited only to the DLC Dodge Challenger and with Sports Hard tires. Would it be fair to let people be able to race this Seasonal even if they don't have the DLC car in question? Do you let gamers still be able to race this car even if they don't have it, or do you treat this like in some of the Special Events where cars are given to you to race without needing to buy it beforehand? Just something to sort of think about in talking about the fairness of offering these DLC courses in Seasonals.


Since these courses are all provided by PD, they could basically provide any sort of course they want to feature in a Seasonal. We'll still be able to race them regardless unless some DLC-only policy is in effect for certain Seasonal races, where you have to buy the DLC in question to be able to compete. I still don't necessarily see this as getting a free ride to race on a DLC track you don't own.

It's a tough call really.


Personally, I think they would have been better off leaving it paid only to race it, but then again, that's some serious bad press to do that. You know people would be fumed. So I think in the end they did the right thing for a number of reasons.

1. It's free advertisement for the DLC in a way which is good.

2. The influx of whining and crying over it would have been enough to make most people just cringe every time the track was mentioned. Probably a good thing we don't have to hear it. The people who bought the DLC wouldn't want to deal with it.

3. Not being able to finish a Seasonal only because of DLC would kinda suck and seem awful cheesy. Kind of like forcing people to pay to play. Buy our stuff or go away is not a message they want to throw out there.

4. It gets people to try it out. It's a scary looking track and a little intimidating for the first time racing on that. I know I wasn't sure if I would like it when I saw it for the first time. I was a late buyer of the tracks. I picked it up for Christmas and I'm still not sure about whether or not I like it, though I am leaning toward awesome now. What's funny is watching the B-spec guy do it over and over buying me cars all week long made me like it now.



So I think it's a good thing as long as they still keep the lobbies a place to only have the people who paid for it. Otherwise, it's a little useless to have paid.

I agree with your point of view. I know one thing that would solve all of the problem of DLC. Put out five or ten tracks and ten or twenty cars at a time. After I saw the last lot, what was it four cars? I wasn't about to pay for, yeah that's right, another GT-R. Really, another GT-R?!
 
As far as I'm concerned, the DLC isn't fair to people who paid for the game. Should all be free anyway.
 
It doesn't bother me, but i think PD could sweeten the deal for purchasers by adding an extra seasonal series of endurance races (each race for a different class of cars) that you can only play if you've bought the track.
 
Have all of DLCs, had to go through hoops cause of disc region lock and now lacking paint and race gear on GT5 main account.

I'm not bothered with Spa in Events at all, in fact, whenever new tracks become available I expect those to be online too. I do have the privilege of using Spa in arcade and practice mode for myself..

might depend on how much they were priced at, I think the codes go for around £20 on internet auctions for either - priced at something similiar would probably be fine by most people? Afterall, it would cost PD much to set this up, I would how many people would buy another set?

I would like to get more use of the DLC, don't feel as though I've begun to get my money's worth ... wonder what PD have in mind to solve this ...otherwise I wonder how may who bought the first packs will continue to buy DLC?

It doesn't bother me that I've bought the DLC, and those that haven't can use any car they like (as long as its qualifies for 750pp - which most do) Does make me wonder about buying another track pack though, if I'll be able to use the track(s) anyway

Maybe they want to show how awesome the track is so more people will buy the DLC.
 
Some people whined that there was no seasonal using the DLC track. Then some people whine that there IS a seasonal using the DLC track and people who didn't buy it can still do the seasonal. Now imagine the wailing if PD made a seasonal that you have to buy DLC to play.

There is nothing that PD can do or NOT do that somebody isn't going to whine about.
 
I'm personally a bit annoyed. Ok, so I can host spa rooms online unlike those who haven't bought the DLC, but does frustrate me to hear of people playing the track who haven't actually forked out the money like myself :/
 
I agree with OP.. If you Bought it you can use it. for those who didn't, their loss
 
I don't find it a problem at all. Spa supplied on the Seasonal is limited to 5 laps, you can only use cars under 750 PP (I think?), and doesn't have Weather Change, so you can't do much unless you want to assume it as practice grounds.
 
I think it should be for paid only.
 
One big part of why I don't care if those who didn't buy DLC get to use Spa is this: I've had far longer to practice on it. :)
 
i would think that spa is a track that is well worth every penny paid for, we buy the DLC to get first hand enjoyment of it, or if one decides he can wait, he has every freedom in the world to do so.

conversely, i have every freedom in the world to unchain myself from the resistance of using money to buy something in the virtual world.

i joked to my wife (who was by my side while i was racing at spa with an LM car): "racing at this track is even more addictive than taking drugs, i just can't resist to race at this track!"
 
I bought the track and I think the more events there the better. If they got enough money to finance the development, make it free for all or something. We all benefit if more people keep playing.
 
We did the Seasonal and enjoyed Spa so much we then bought the track DLC. I'm sure we're not the only ones! :)
 
it is unfair but all i care about is a DECENT setup for the nissan r390 road car, LOL

If you've checked out the news page you'll see that there is a new group of seasonal races, one of the track featured is Spa-Francorchamps.

Do you think it's fair that games who haven't purchased the track through DLC will be able to race on it? (Myself included. This will be my first run here.)

What's your take? Please leave the BS at the door and only bring in valid comments and opinions. If you're making a statement, base it on fact to avoid arguments please.

As someone who didn't pay for the maps, I think they should leave spa out of the seasonals, I'm greatful that I've been given this demo so to speak, but I didn't pay for it, its disrespectful to those that have sponsored it for me to have it, so they should probably use, any other map.

Or, give us maps for free, but make us pay for all the cars instead of giving away the FT-86?

I think this is just that though, a demo, I still can't play in the arcade, practice or anywhere else at 'spa' so perhaps this is a marketing gimic to get me to buy the map pack? Might do it, but, not likely, I'm in this now mostly for the seasonals, re-doing new seasonals that I like over and over again with different cars at lower PP to see how much fun I can have... adding new courses for me, its nice, but I won't pay money for it.

Also, I did folk out $10 bucks for the Car Pack 2, so I will spend money when I like what I get (yes $10, Australia got ripped off at $7, and the minimum 'wallet funding' is $10 anyway).
