I'm gonna be redoing the wiring for my speakers, and the existing isnt long enough for my "little" project:)

Any suggestions on what brand/type I should use?

Splurge and get Monster, I did and am really happy with the results. (kind of expensive though) (They also have a budget MonsterXP wire for about $80 for 100ft)
Acoustic Research makes some very good wiring as well.

ok cool, i was actually think about moster, i've always been impressed with their products.

Another question, My uncle wants to chage the speakers that came with this home surround sound package. will buying different speakers mess with the surround sound effect?

Tom has some great ideas if you got the sound system to make good use for that stuff. If you have a small system now then just use a heavy gage speaker wire.

In other words, if you have $1000 in components then use Heavy Gage Wire. If you have over that and are using Digtal Coax or Fiber to hook up your system, then use Monster Wire.

No, buying better speakers will inhance the sound quality. Better highs and mid range.

Question? Do you have a subwoofer now?

yeah, but i think the channel can only handle 50 0r so watts
I really don't know if I would mess with the Monster Wire with that kind of a system.

What kind of amp?

Another quetion: is this a powered sub? If so, you will change out the power supply when you change the sub. You really should have a powered sub if you don't. It relieves your system of the considerable burden of reproducing low bass.

You don't have to go crazy with speaker wire unless you have a fairly high-end component system. My personal fave is AudioQuest, but they can get a bit pricey.

Of what components does your system consist?

It's tough to upgrade "one-box" type systems because...well, they're designed that way. I wouldn't go crazy with wire right now...the frequency bandwidth and current demands of your satellites is not enough to warrant heavy gauge speaker wire. I don't think you'd hear any difference. Remember that wire is just the icing on the cake.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything, just my :2cents:. :)

I was my uncle's idea, i was just seeing how feasible it would be:)
I think it would be best if you leave things just as they are. That is a good package and probably sounds good as well.

Heheh, no worries:)

The only reason i was asking is because the wire that i have at my disposal is too short.

I agree... ;)

Goto Radio Shack and get some heavy gage speaker wire and that should do the trick.. ;)

Go to Radio Shack. The people there generally know about the stuff, and you can always return it if you don't like it.

Between 2000 and 3000.

Depends on what you need.....

Let's see. You have a DVD player...check. So you'll need a receiver, speakers and a sub.

I like Harman/Kardon a lot...I think they're the best thing going for the money. An AVR 120 will run you ~$400.

Speakers....Paradigm. Two pair Atoms, CC-70 center and PDR-10 sub...$880.

The combination is super-clean, dynamic, detailed....just good from one end to the other. You'll never go back. :D

Links.

harman/kardon

Paradigm

Check out their tech sections. There's tons of info.

You could...the only problem is that most car speakers have a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. That will overdraw most home amps pretty easily (since they are designed for a nominal 8 ohm load). You could try to compensate for this with a 4 ohm resistor inline to the speaker. The results are bound to be mixed at best, tho. :(

If you have $200 burning a hole in your pocket, try a pair of Paradigm's Atoms or Titans with your current receiver. I think you'll be amazed at the difference.

if i have $200...

But seriously, i'm gonna consider that stuff you pointer out, i've been thinking about getting a new system for awhile:D

Another question...

How do you connect your PC to your stereo (if you do:)). I just use a RCA adaptor to convert a headphone jack and run that between my computer and reciever. Theres gotta be a better way:)

 Yeah, the minor matter of money....you have bodily fluids that can be sold, don't you? :D

Well, I have my PC hooked up the same way. I run a cable that has a headphone mini-plug on one end and stereo RCAs on the other. Like $5 at RadioShack. I run it from the line out on my sound card.

-or, possibly-

if you have a S/PDIF out you could probably run that to a coax in on your receiver

If you had RCA outs, you could use those....but not many comps do.

Great more money to spend to get the good things  :)

Ok i got an idea...

*gets down on knees*

God, i'm gonna play the lottery this week. I would really like to win the big one. So could you pull some strings? Thanks:)

Lets hope that worked:D

Oh well i like what i got right now, so i'll live with it.

Ugh, just remember I have to move my stuff to our new house this weekend.
