Speaker wire...

Oh, someone probably does. You don't see it on home stuff very much anymore. Mostly on pro stuff. Hey, an SPL meter is only $20-30 at RatShack! :Poke:

I have an old NAD 3060 integrated amp that has power output meters - they're neat! they're actual needles, not an LCD. The best part is that it proves you don't need much power on a continuous basis. The 3060 is rated @ 60wpc RMS. Well, with my speakers in a small room, I was only using ~10wpc average to get it as loud as I'd like it (80-90 db). I saw one peak of 40 wpc, that's it! :)

Heh, i'm more into cause i think they look cool:D

My old school had a broken oscilliscope that i was trying to get from them, losers wouldnt give it to me. That would have been awesome to have:D

It was the government, so they had an excuse. Part of me wishes i had stole it though, i doubt they even knew it was there:)

Just remember - anything you put into the signal path will worsen the sound. I would suggest not doing anything, but if you're going to replace the speaker wire, make sure you replace all the wires to all the speakers, to preserve the sound match across the speakers. I have to say though, with a receiver, five speakers and a sub for under $400 retail, you're going to struggle to improve the sound noticeably with better speaker wire.

Oh, and don't even think about putting a car stereo speaker by your TV. Your Sony speakers will be magnetically shielded, a car stereo one won't and it will shag your TV.

Now what i have has a built in EQ, and its a pain in the ass to fie tune. can I hook up a seperate EQ and will it be able to work?

Actually, what you should do is rip the receiver open and defeat the EQ entirely (jumper wire or something). :D j/k

If your receiver has a tape loop, you can hook up an outboard EQ.

-HOWEVER!-

It will introduce even more distortion than the onboard EQ, and it will be harder to tune because now you have two sets of EQs in the signal path. :thumbsdow Save your money for new speakers! :)
