Is it true that (for a price) in the near future GT-5 owners will be able to turn ALL Standard cars into Premium cars? I remember hearing this not too long ago on a YouTube review.

Nope, but it is true that in the near future, DLC will begin to surface on the PS store that will upgrade some cars. This will probably be in packs of 5 cars or so, although it could easily be 1 car at a time for all we know.

I've had a theory for awhile that might explain a little bit:

GT5 is more of a benchmark than anything. They used it to incorporate all these new features, and they will be perfected in GT6. GT5 will still get improvements (like Standard to Premium cars), but I still think it's more for them to test their new ideas rather than take the GT series to its limits, even though it still is in many ways.

I think that some cars, mostly the popular ones, will go from Standard to Premium. It has already been confirmed that some cars will get the Premium treatment, it's just a matter of how many. Then in GT6, all cars will be "Premium" in fact, the words Standard and Premium won't even be used to categorize the cars

As near as I can tell, there's been no official word on this in the first place. It's been suggested that Polyphony will be upgrading some Sub-Standard cars to Premium, but I haven't seen this actually confirmed or any specifics about this upgrade process. If it even happens at all, it's unknown how many cars will be upgraded, how many will be upgraded at one time (one car, five cars, ten cars, or whatever), whether it will be free or cost money (better be free), and how it would be worked into the existing game (showing up in the new car dealership, the Sub-Standard version in your garage maybe automatically switching to Premium, et cetera).

If they don't at least provide free updates to GT 5.5, they will lose many sales to renters when GT6 comes around considering how much they dropped the ball with this release. It's in their best interest to get this game up to par with it's predecessors without charging for the add-ons.

God I hope so... you know what really grinds my gears though, the fact that you can't use photo mode with standard cars, that alone tells how poorly they are in terms of quality.

Or zoom too close in photo mode without that darned red interdiction sign appearing :grumpy:

Personally I would like to see more Premium class cars in the game but it's not a priority over fixing/improving certain other features. Still, if the upgrades remain free I'll take what I can get :D

Some of the standard cars don't look too bad, the toms supra for example, but some are shocking and look like they have been taken off a sega mega drive, they have no place on a ps3

Uhh... Castrol Tom's Supra is premium, lol. I'd rather see a-spec and the level system get a makeover but that would more likely be something to save for GT6.

You can get the Tom's Supra as both Premium and Standard 💡

Not a concern for me that some cars are standard and others are premium, but I hate that you can't take your standard cars to the photo mode, when you at the startup can see the same standard car in a photo mode location (main menu)... :indiff:

"There are currently some cars that have both standard and premium versions. Those are cases where the cars were remade."

In this summarized version of the interview with him it's says new cars and tracks are a posiblity as dlc.

So I believe new cars will be up for sale and, premium updates will be patches.
