Nambia, Yuma, AZ/El Centro, CA. But the desert area where I'm thinking of for both are more Sand dunes than flat sand deserts like Tunisia. I think the Gobi Desert is the best shot

Well they began filming Tatooine scenes in the UAE (and possibly some scenes in New Mexico) for TFA. So it's likely they'll stick with either of those locations instead. I wouldn't put it past them to avoid including the Lars homestead altogether in this new trilogy either.

It isn't just extremism that poses a threat to those old sets. One of the main locales used for the prequel movies is all but derelict and set to be swallowed by an advancing sand dune. If it hasn't already.

Because this is a good distance in time from Episodes 4-6 and things change over time, including Stormtrooper armor.
