What I bought in the sale

Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY
Batman Arkham City
Bioshock
Bioshock 2
The Elder Scrolls IV GOTY deluxe
L.A Noire complete edition
Portal 2
Star Wars KOTOR
The Witcher enhanced edition
The Witcher 2 enhanced edition

That lot should keep me going for a while :)

I'm actually almost embarrassed to post this, but here is the final list of what I bought in this sale (as you read it, bear in mind that I thought 'ah it's ok, there won't be anything I want this year, I already have everything'):

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2
Payday: The Heist
DCS: Black Shark
Myst: Masterpiece Edition
Riven
Cargo! The Quest for Gravity
STCC The Game
STCC The Game 2
Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb
Arkham City: Harley Quinn's Revenge (or whatever it's called)
Killing Floor DLCs
Dear Esther
Saints Row 3 DLCs
Take On Helicopters w/ Hinds DLC
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Thief: Deadly Shadows
RealMyst
The Longest Journey
Wings of Prey
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Universe Sandbox
Arma II: PMC
H.A.W.X.
H.A.W.X. 2 with Open Skies DLC
Evochron Mercenary
IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946.

I got Magicka plus a load of DLC as a gift, and I also bought the following as gifts:
Arma II: OA
Harley Quinn's DLC thing
Payday: The Heist
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.

Yeah, they were all for the same person, but it was his birthday and I owed him one anyway as he got me L.A. Noire when it was £25 for mine, so.

I'm guessing but I think the total for all this was about £80-90, when my budget was £40. Still, it's a pretty good haul for the price of two or three PS3 games, right? Hilariously enough, despite owning 251 games on Steam I still have 8 games on my wishlist and can think of at least one that isn't there yet but will be as soon as it appears on Steam (it's Borderlands 2).

So you got 26 games/packages. I got 19. I thought I was done at 17 but the I also bought Witcher 2 and SPAZ. Now I need a better computer to be able to run Witcher and a few other games so the spending is rather to be continued... :nervous:

I bought 4 items

Bastion
Mass Effect 2
Dungeon Siege 3
The Witcher : Enhanced Edition

Wanted a whole bunch more but really could not afford it, my steam collection is already full of games I've barely even played, some I've never installed.

Alltidxx
so the spending is rather to be continued... :nervous:

Same here, I realised I have a load of flight sims/games/games with flying in them but no flight stick. Also someone recommended I get a better cooler for my CPU and overclock it, unfortunately I rather like that idea... Ah well. Now I see why some people say PC gaming is expensive.

Guys, I need some quick help.

It's time to buy all Half-Life games, but I see that there is a Half Life (1) and Half-Life: Source. They're the same price, but Source claims to have some enhancements.

I'm going to google as well, but I would like some feedback from any of you if you know. Which one should I get?

I've played both all the way through, and would suggest getting HL: Source. identical but with nice graphics.

Thanks, man.

I had to get the Anthology though. The Anthology included TF1, HL1, OF and BS for only $7.49, whereas getting HL1, OF and BS (no TF1) individually cost $9.99.

So I now own HL1 Anthology and the Orange Box. I haven't felt this excited about a game in years. I've always wanted to play them all.

Total cost for HL1, OF, BS, Portal, TF1, HL2, HLEP1 and HLEP2 was $17.48. Would've come to around 22.80ish if I had bought every episode or expansion separately.

As a bonus I get TF classic which I never played either, and Portal 1.

Final acquisition list:

Dead Island
Amnesia: The dark descent
GTA: Episodes from liberty city
HL1
HL1: Opposing force
HL1: Blue Shift
Team Fortress Classic
HL2
HL2: Episode one
HL2: Episode two
HL2: Lost Coast
Portal

Not bad. Good purchases.

Just Cause 2
Terraria
Magicka
Batman Arkham City
Far Cry 2
Garry's Mod
Grand Theft Auto: Episdoes from Liberty City
P-51 Mustang for microsoft Flight (really pissed about this one, its a model with no cockpit - like a GT5 standard model)
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Saints Row: The Third

Thinking about assassins creed brotherhood and revalations, but not sure. Also a buddy told me they dont play to great on PC anyway. I have the first 2 on PS3

Wow I feel bad to say I only bought ARMA 2:CO. Some of you guys bought a lot of games/expansions but i really did not want any more games.

I didn't do too much damage.

Age of Empires 3
Cities XL 2012
Dungeon Defenders
Magicka

I definitely thought the last day of deals would have been better.

I think it's safe to say that only very few new games will get my attention going ahead now, I have so much to play...

I'll start with Dear Esther from the newly bought pile.

I think I might do the same, I've heard it's quite short so it's a good place to start. Then I might move on to GRAW2. I might even start a review blog to document each game as I play through my backlog... I could probably write quite a large book on that subject, actually!

I got Dear Esther, though haven't tried it yet, along with RealMyst and Star Wars KOTOR. Came to £5.47 overall, sweet! Didn't want to spend too much as picking some stuff up at the PS store too (Journey and that weird game by the guys who made Linger in Shadows, perhaps Borderlands too)

I've started with L.A Noire, enjoying it so far, great art direction and story lines, gameplay is a bit clunky though especially the driving for example.

That's why you always wait til the end to see if it will be a daily deal or something. ;)

It took me two Steam sales to realise that, believe it or not. In fact now it's a case of never buy anything at all if you can live without it until the next big sale...

Now that the sale is over I guess this thread is too. Thank you all for your contributions, it has been interesting and extremely expensive (for me, anyway)!

Thought I'd bring this thread back with a new name rather than start a new one. Yep, it's that time again, the Autumn sale started yesterday. All of yesterday's daily deal games are still discounted in case you somehow managed to miss the huge 'oh by the way, you're going to give us lots of money' redesign of Steam's storefront.

Yesterday:
XCOM: Enemy Unknown: -33%
Magic The Gathering: Duel of something or other: -50%
The Walking Dead: -50%
Darksiders II: -66%
Age of Empires III Complete: -75%
Terraria: -66% < Get this if you like Minecraft and/or 2D platformers!

Today:
Arma II Combined Ops: -50%
Max Payne 3: -75% < I think I'm going to get this
AwesomeNauts: -66%
Portal 2: -75% < They either have or will be adding split screen co-op, by the way
Sleeping Dogs: -50%
Prototype 2: -50%

They've got the flash sales going again, no idea what the timing on them is now but three end at 10pm GMT and the other three at... 4am? I've already picked up KOTOR 2 and Intrusion 2 for a total of £3.98 from the flash sales. Dead Island, Rage and Garry's Mod are up at the moment, Rage is only £3.24, it wasn't the best game ever but I'd say it's worth at least that much.

There's also an indie game sale going on at the same time. Yesterday's are now gone, today:
Super Meat Boy: -50% < Pretty awesome but extremely difficult
Recettear: Subtitle I can't read from here: -50%
Rock of Ages: -76%
Hard Reset: -50% < Awesome old-school-style shooter, very many graphics
Frozen Synapse: -50%
Serious Sam 3: BFE: -75%
Vessel: -66%
Turba: -75%
Democracy 2: The Democracying (not a real subtitle): -50%

Other sales of note:

Good Old Games (gog.com) are doing a 'Pick 5, pay $10' offer right now with some pretty great games; Wadjet Eye point and click adventures (Gemini Rue is excellent in my opinion), Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Botanicula (apparently more of a toy than a game), Anomaly: Warzone Earth, Torchlight and Machinarium are just some.

Green Man Gaming will be doing their own sale this weekend, a few pretty new games with decent reductions and some voucher codes too. Dishonoured, Skyrim and Doom 3 BFG all 50% off tomorrow from 1am GMT and some more, less extreme reductions on Borderlands 2, XCOM and some others later in the day... But there's a 25% off voucher code as well, and it's not clear yet but there's a possibility it will stack with the other discounts. If I can get both Dishonoured and Skyrim for 75% off I'm all over that for sure.

It might also be worth keeping an eye on Amazon US's digital download sale, they're listed as US-only but if you were so inclined you could get around that restriction, perfectly legally too, but as I'm not sure how the AUP would feel about me giving out the instructions on how to do so I'll leave it to you to find out.

One last thing; if this is your first Steam sale, don't buy ANYTHING that isn't a daily deal or flash sale until the very last day, the chances are you'll buy it, it'll come up for a better discount and you'll feel stupid. However if you find something at 75% off it's unlikely it'll get cheaper than that. Also it may not be obvious but generally speaking, if a game is discounted, all or some of the DLC for it will be discounted too so if you own, say, Saints Row 3, you might like to grab some of the DLC for it when it comes up. And it will, THQ are in some pretty deep... Mud financially speaking. That's a pretty great game too.

Enjoy!

Bought Max Payne 3 of course. Who can ignore 75% off? Also bought Cryostasis.

Trying to decide on: Xcom: Enemy Unknown. The price is kinda ok but I want it to be good, as in €25. So, unsure.

I've bought:

RAGE
The Walking Dead
Max Payne 3

That's over 50GB of games. My ISP might get annoyed slightly.

Let me know what you think of Cryostasis, I remember being curious about that one as it reminds me a bit of STALKER and The Thing, from the screenshots anyway. Also there's a demo of XCOM: EU, I haven't tried it yet but I'm not really compelled by that price as I'm pretty sure it's not my kind of game, and I know even if I did want it I wouldn't get round to playing it for some time thanks to Borderlands 2 and the forthcoming BF3 DLC.

Nice choices, in my opinion (which, granted, isn't worth that much!) Rage was underrated. Fine, I expected more from id as did most other people, but it was still a decent game, it just didn't set the world on fire like Doom and Quake did (or so I'm told, I was too young to care when they came out). I had a lot of fun with it. I'm about to buy Max Payne 3, I do want to get The Walking Dead eventually as I've heard it's brilliant but as with XCOM, I know I won't play it for some time. I'll get it when it's 75% off, as I am with MP3.

I was going to get the Season Pass, but I figured I might not end up playing MP3 enough so I'll just wait for the next -75% sale to grab it if I decide I want it.

Also, I thought Rage is 25GB and MP3 is 35? So that's over 50GB even before The Walking Dead!

Edit: Dishonoured has just gone on sale at Green Man Gaming, if you apply this code: GMG25-G4VDR-0ZL4Q it's £11.25, which seems like a good deal.

Sure thing, but it'll be a while before I get round playing Cryostasis I think. The price is low enough [€4,99) so little reason to wait around for better pricing even though I'll let it rest for a while. It's different with Xcom, I played the demo and really liked it. I like turnbased games and permadeath too as in Hidden & Dangerous 2: if one of your squad members was KIA you had to collect crucial equipment he might have carried and shuffle in the rucksacks of the others, leave him where was lying and carry on. It was rough :)
But, I do have at least three games I wanna go through first so by then there will be at least christmas sale on so I decided it can wait. Same with Borderlands 2.

Great deal, thanks for the tip!

Most welcome, it only occurred to me afterwards that I probably could have gotten Skyrim and Dishonoured at 50% off, Hitman: Absolution at 35% off and then gotten 25% off the total of that as well, but I want to wait for the 'complete' edition of Skyrim (seeing as I've waited this long) and I'm not sure I'll enjoy Hitman enough to pay that much for it, seeing as it's apparently quite a departure from the older games.

And yeah, I think if I were to get XCOM it would have to be when I've run out of things to play, which at the current rate will be sometime in 2035.

Nothing that interesting today:
Skyrim: 50%
War of the Roses: 50%
Saints Row The Third: 75% < Actually, this is pretty good for the price
Transformers Fall of Cybertron: 50%
Crysis 2 Maximum Edition: 70%
Farming Simulator 2013: 50%

Indie games:
Machinarium: 50% < Pretty awesome point & click, this
They Bleed Pixels: 66%
Cortex Command: 50%
Stacking: 50%
Blocks That Matter: 60%
Dustforce: 50%
Defense Grid The Awakening: 75%
Cogs (at least I think that's what it says): 75%
Rochard: 50%

Current flash sales
Until 10pm GMT:
Deponia: 66%
Guns of Icarus Online: 66%
Fable III: 75%

Until 6am GMT:
Anna: 66%
Introversion: 75%
Magicka: 75%.

Other sales:

Get Loaded is on again, pick two for £10:
Spec Ops: The Line,
Lego Batman 2,
Civilisation V: Gods and Kings,
Warhammer 40K: Space Marine,
Serious Sam 3: BFE and
Civilisation V: GOTY Edition.

Get Games have a load of sales but none are particularly great, hilariously their indie games sale features From Dust which was published by Ubisoft. They also have 69% off Darksiders II and 75% off on Darksiders.

GOG.com's five for $10 deal is ending soon and they've started a new weekend promo which looks... Dull.

Might be worth mentioning that Gamefly have a sale on, the only things I personally consider noteworthy are Skyrim for £10, Spec Ops: The Line and The Darkness 2 for £5 each. There's a discount code as well: NOV20OFFUK (this looks like UK-only). However they don't accept Paypal and I think you have to install their downloader which I didn't really like using all that much, I'm not sure if you have to keep it or not though.

Oh, and Gamefly is apparently the only digital distributor who sells Hitman: Contracts, I had no idea it was even released on PC. That's the only game I've bought from them.

I picked up Dead Island GOTY today; that should hold me over until Far Cry 3 comes out.

Really wish Skyrim would hit 75% off on a flash sale. I rented it for 360 and completed it when it first came out; but, never got to run it on PC with any mods.

I really enjoyed Dead Island, never got round to finishing it though. It's like Borderlands but melee and with zombies. And yeah, it looks like Skyrim is best on PC because you can mod just about anything, I'm waiting for a reasonable deal on the version with all the DLC included.

Gdog96
I bought crysis 1 as it was £3. It's gonna be fun to try it as I'm currently playing crysis 2.

Crysis is pretty great but don't be disappointed if you can't run it maxed out, you'd think a game of that age would have been tamed by modern graphics cards but that's not the case! Then again the returns are very much diminishing, you probably wouldn't spot the difference between high and maxed settings so it does still look gorgeous.

It's been a relatively slow sale for me this time, for which I am extremely grateful what with Christmas coming up. So far I've bought:

Knights of the Old Republic II (£3)
Intrusion 2 (£1)
Max Payne 3 (£7.49)
Dishonoured (£11.25).

The only other things I think I'd buy are relatively small games, namely Mark of the Ninja, Hotline Miami, Faster Than Light, Pid and Half Minute Hero, but I'm waiting to see if the discounts improve. I'm sure all but MotN and HMH will turn up in a pay-what-you-want indie bundle eventually anyway.

I think i'll grab Portal 2 as that's a steal. The thing that frustrates me a little though is that I was going to ask for Skyrim for Christmas anyway, then saw it's 50% off on Steam but that of course is based on the RRP, bringing it down to £17.49 or something. But you can get the DVD from ShopTo and others for about £23.00 now, so really I would sooner have that. Perhaps not a valid complaint, but still!
