On Latte's request/suggestion this will become MY thread hehehehe...:scared:
Basically for all my cockpit mods and new additions / ideas so that they are easy to find and all in one thread.

More to come! very soon... đź’ˇ

The first cockpit I owned was a playseat evo, was not terrible but I could not really add on to it or mod much on it. I then thought about making my own cockpit but although I am good with electronics and putting things together/ taking them apart, I am not a carpenter or wielder so I dropped that idea soon after making some plans for a DIY cockpit. So I took a look online for what else I could get that may suit my needs, I found the Obutto cockpit and for the price it could not be beaten. The circular steel tubing the Obutto is great for transferring vibration and turned out to be heavily modifiable.

Currently my cockpit consists of the Obutto frame itself with the Obutto chair (soon to be replaced), a sparco 4 pt harness w/ alcantara shoulder straps, 3 Buttkickers, (1 bka300 and 2 bk gamer2's) 2 7'' lilliput touchscreen 1080p lcd's mounted to goose-neck mounts on the cockpit, a 60'' Panasonic plasma, for sound I use a Yamaha YSP4000 sound-bar with the down-firing sub, and a Bose companion 5 speaker system for music that is attached to the cockpit itself.

I also have a dual-channel 15-band graphic equalizer that I have hooked into the buttkickers.

Going forward I have my new seat to mount, I would also like to reposition my bka300 unit to the bottom of the new seat. The shell is fiberglass is that safe to drill into guys??

I am slowly moving towards a total DIY cockpit as I add new pieces and remove parts of the Obutto frame, the real problem I have with moving totally away from it is it has an excellent mount for wheels and pedals, it supports my upside down mounted g27 pedals w/ the perfect pedal brake module and also my Fanatec pedals or anything else on the market currently.

***Pics coming***

and more write up too!!

Is that a MOMO or a OMOM? :sly: I guess if it's a OMOM then it's a knock off.

I assure you it reads properly in person... It's real.

The gray parts are alcantara too!! :)

OMNOMNOM

Sorry, couldn't resist. :p

Are you taking pictures off a mirror? If so, with what purpose? Just curious. I guess you're taking pictures with a webcam, with the "mirror image" option on if not.

I guess my macbook webcam has "mirror image" option on as default... I also think it is because I was using photo booth. I set it to auto flip new pictures now so I think this should fix the problem in the future.

Nice seat mate and well done on getting the thread started.
Lets have some info on your desires in the first post, oh by that I mean desires for this cockpit nothing else!
Like what do you want to achieve from your cockpit and what the project consists of, what your fave games are.

I see you got the XL size (typical American :))

(Edited and moved from other thread)

I did it!!!!! yes yes yes!

Mounted my gt3rs v1 rim on my PWTS so now I have a alacantra rim on my PWTS that works with xbox360, ps3, and pc. For a minuite I thought I was not going to be able to do it. I got stuck on the same part mikemav3 did in his video with the glue on the connectors, but goof off 2 (safe for plastic) and razorblades prevailed in the end. I am very happy with the result and will include it in my perfect pedal review video. Also got myself a used momo racing seat for my cockpit, and an alcantara shift knob for my Fanatec shifter that I will have to show you guys.

Here is the video guide I followed:

If anyone has questions feel free to ask.

I <3 Alcantara!!

And here is the new alcantara shift knob for my Fanatec shifter. Almost have a perfect way to mount it still just working out a small problem. The one on the left is the new knob...

Here is a quick look at the new GT3RS V2 wheel and the new aluminum and carbon paddle shifter...

Perfect pedal vid coming tonight.

Sorry about my friend Matt and his video-chat interruption.

You have a very nice living room ... that says a lot on the quality of your soon-to-be cockpit set-up ... 👍

Does anyone know of anything that can be bolted on that add a lot of weight?? Like bolt on weights?? does such a thing exist? hehe I have something I want/need to weigh down.

I used particle board (MDF is good too) to weight down my shifter mount. I also built in a cubby that i filled with change (pennys and dimes ect.).

But my latest incarnation uses a couple draw catches to fasten my shifter mount to my seat frame, which is very solid. Heres a link to a picture of a draw catch http://www.thehardwarehut.com/catalog-product.php?p_ref=259878

While My old weighted down setup worked just fine for me, but my friends were always much rougher with it making it rock side to side.

Post some pictures of your rig so we can see what you're working with.

EDIT: I think crooooow and others are right about the nock-off seat, unless its somehow a mirror image. Reading/writting in english is always left to right http://www.rb-performance.co.uk/catalog/images/Momo.jpg
But who cares about branding as long as you didnt get ripped off, and its comfortable thats all that matters.

I'm going to say it again, you are one funny guy. I truly like to watch your videos. Kepp them coming. Ever thought of becoming a stand up comedian? ;)

So you have three Fanatec wheels. Which one is the better wheel. Turbo S, GT3RS V1 or V2?

And I think that it's a OMOM seat unless it's a mirror images.

Thanks Kiki...

Well I would say that the turbo s with the gt3rs rim is the best. So my wheel.. call it the GT3RS v3 hehe

They are all equal IMO each has its use, except for the v1 now it is obsolete.

Its a momo seat lol leave me alone!! its real! hehe
See...

Any tips for mounting the seat??

Can't you mount it to the original seat brackets plus the omom, I mean Momo side brackets?

Get a plank, MDF board (or whatever), mount your entire cockpit on it and then you can attach your MOMO seat on the plank/MDF board.

How do you make the lilliput screen work as sidemirrors?

I just have them set as rear view cam's.

I have a question about buying 3 monitors/tv's for triple screen views. If I buy 3 computer monitors will I be able to play gt5 at 1080p resolution?? I am thinking of making a purchase of a mount + the screens when I get paid next!

Yes, because each screen is connected and driven by a PS3. So if you set the PS3's to 1080p, you will get 1080p, if your monitors are full HD, that is.

Right but how would I know if a monitor is full HD?? the resolution it can display?1920Ă—1080

Can anyone recommend some nice but not expensive 22''-24'' Monitors?

It says in the specs of the monitor. If it's full HD, than it can display 1080. Be aware that you get 16:9 ratio and NOT 16:10.

19:6 = 1920x1080

16:10 = 1920x1200. If you should get this resolution, your GT5 will be distorted, stretched vertically, I believe.

Yeah so this is exactly why I ask these questions. I can imagine buying 3x 16:10 monitors and the proceeding to slam my head into my desk.

Get 3 16:9 (1920x1080) monitors and you won't get a headache. :p

Don't forget that a 21 inch 16:10 monitor looks bigger than a 21 inch 16:9.

Yah for consoles stick to 16:9 1920x1080 and be CERTAIN although most do that it supports HDMI and HDCP. All those will be in the specs.
Dell should have a good range and also Asus or Samsung.

I hope GT5 supports this, single screen experience just doesnt come close.

Or 3D stereoscopic with a 3 monitor setup and head tracking? :sly:

On PC, you can accomplish this with nVidia or with the iZ3D drivers if you're using a ATI card.

AFAIR, 3 monitor and 3D stereoscopic have been confirmed for GT5. So, if one monitor GT5 displays in 3D stereoscopic, than all 3 monitors display GT5 in 3D stereoscopic.

Playstation Mag said that 3 Screens was going to be supported but thats the same magazine that got confused over the Nascar/Indy. So im not putting too much faith into them.

DG from SRT confrimed to me that "Headtracking" @ E3 was only working on a left/right axis and not in a freedom of movemount allowing head hilting and forward back movment.

3D would be a nice experience in 3.
Not so sure headtracking would be needed with 3 screens though as you pretty much see everything anyways.

NOTE: Possibly offensive language contained.
