Is there any video out there showing this i know a indy car could smoke a Stock Car but i was wondering about a F1 car but the stock cant have a restrickter plate on it.

Not asking for opinion on what could beat what wondering if there are any videos out there showing them racing

I think there is a video of jeff gordon swapping rides with an F1 driver from a few years back. I don't think they race but still...

On any form of track an F1 car would leather a CART car or a NASCAR. On a banked oval... Not sure. An F1 car setup for a banked oval and no other corners could probably reach in excess of 240mph - they reach 220mph on the banked section of Indianapolis during the Grand Prix there, but are set up for the entire wibbly track.

I didnt know that the F1 cars raced at indy i thought they used the "Indy Cars" wich are different i know they got and indy car up to 280 before but i dont know how fast a nascar could go im not talking about banked im talking about top end straight away as fast as they can go but the thing is the Nascar dosent put the restricktor plate on it.

p.s. where can i find the video of gordan?

Last years indy F1 race was quite scary, I remember when ralph schumacher crashed into the wall very heavily and was knocked out for a few minutes slumped over in the cockpit. Everyone thought the worse and what was more amazing was how long it took the ems to arrive. On another note, the closest would be Juan Pablo Montoya trading cars for the afternoon. Ain't too exciting as they both mostly did parade laps. Although I do remember Gordon actually putting down a very fast time in the F1 car which would have qualified him in a good position if it was a real qualifying session.

An F1 car is helped by its very low weight (which plays a small part) and MASSIVE power (current ones are in the 920s), but hindered by the fact that they are aerodynamically as efficient as a housing project. If I could get definitive figures on frontal area, Cd, mass and power I could tell you which is quickest in a straight line.

For reference, a top fuel dragster is quicker over a standing quarter mile than a NASCAR is over a flying quarter mile.

What is the top speed of a nascar and champ car and IRL car?

Its hard to say what F1 can do as they dont have any specific oval tracks, but monza and the old hockieheim (very bad spelling :ouch: ) the F1 cars went very fast then.

F1 cars generate alot of drag with all the wings and stuff, even though at a track like Monza they try to get rid of as much drag as possible. Last year Antonio Pizonia got a top speed of 369km/h.

And keep in mind that is on a road course, not an oval. F1 Engines are far superior to those of Champ Car and IRL, let alone NASCAR, if set up to do so F1 cars could go faster than any of the before mentioned cars.

It was with Montoya. Gordon drove the Williams, and Montoya drove the Chevrolet. I've got a picture somewhere, but I can't find it - I'll post it when I do. (Don't get too excited, it's barely larger than the size of an avatar).

EDIT: Found it.

That Montoya and Gordon thing was kinda dumb. If I remember right Gordon never really got to full speed in the F1 and the Chevy was last years model at the time. I don't think they were ever on the track at the same time other than that parade lap side by side at the end.

Couldn't agree more, an f1 car would beat a "Nascar car" at anything, straight aways, ovals, etc... hahaha Put jeff gordon in his car and have him try to race michael schumacher in the Ferrari F1....i don't even have to tell you guys what would happen, cuz all of you know...

i don't understand why nascar is even considered racing, i could drive around an oval!, now going from 220mph to 60mph to take a turn and then back up again, that i couldn't do...that right there takes actual skill ladies and gents

I'm not good with speeds here. So if someone was to put Lemans racing(p1,p2,Gt), F1, Nascar and motorcycle in order of speed. and order them again in terms of capability as a car

what would that look like?

Depends.

An F1 car set-up for track would be slower than a NASCAR set-up for the oval. However, if all vehicles were set-up for just out-and-out straight line speed it'd be:

F1
LMP900
NASCAR
LMP600
GT1
GT2
Superbike

moto gp bikes are capable of 340kph+, it would be hard to say just how fast they could go. they have more hp then kg.

Mass doesn't matter. It has a small, constant effect - rolling resistance - which is more significant at lower speeds than higher ones (hence it being an impedance to acceleration but not speed).

At 250mph I suspect it'd be as little as 10% of the air resistance.

More important is frontal area, coefficient of drag and power.

Ha Ha Ha oh ya you try it then try going 3 wide at 209 while being in the middle while there running 3 wide in front of you, and all that draft, and air pushing you around and bounsing you around pluse your only about 3 inch apart.

Formula 1 is tough but you dont realy ever run side by side while going 220 to 60 into a hair pin you run in a straight line you dont get bumped or pushed around.

Yeah a lot of people under estimate what those drivers really are doing. But in my opinion i find the oval a little boring. That's why I perfer LeMans over NASCAR and I F1 second to LeMans. Its more interesting, but I think its really cool when nascars well touch each other and then they go drifting in the wall.
Hopefully the driver's ok, if he isn't at least it made for good TV.:dopey:

Well, except for lap 1, turn 1 today at the Ring. Where they went in FIVE wide and Alonso drifted the entire corner. In an F1 car...!

daan

ya how many times do you see a race like that though? not very often but in nascar it comes down to the wire like that every time. I didnt see it in moneco i didnt see it today in nur so dont compaire the to that dosent happen very often pluse you got that from old footage so obviousely it was a very famouse finish?

Im not saying that F1 is crap im saying dont make fun of nascar because its alot more than just turning left pluse you have pits you can be tigh or lose your always by people so dont say that Nascar isnt racing.

BTW i Know you didnt

Not on purpose though

Anyway let's not turn this into an oval v.s. road course thread.

Blake

No-one would drift an F1 car on purpose, since drifting is simply the slowest way to get round a corner.

*turns thread into drift vs grip thread*

What?!?

Are you saying driving like this is the least efficient way around a corner?

You've got to be crazy :dunce:
