Hi everyone

This is my favourite combination (it's what I was dreaming of during the long wait for GT5)

With these settings:

Sports hard tyres
No assists apart from ABS1

Using a G27 and using clutch & H-pattern shifter

7:51 seems to be a near perfect time for my driving ability...:)

How much quicker is everybody else? - go on, you can beat it!!

I absolutely LOVE the F40, haven't tested it out around Nürburgring yet but I think I just might do that after posting this.
I'll see what laptimes I'll be able to grind but I have no hopes of getting it under eight minutes anytime soon.

What GT5 dearly needs is Porsche cars, for the ultimate race: F40 vs 959!! My dream cars since my teens.

Just had a crack at it with G27 using stick but no clutch and could only manage a 8,52 with 3 very big off's costing around 30 seconds or more. It is a very hard car to drive on sports hard with no traction control.

In real life the F40 is without ABS. I would recommend doing the same with the one in GT5. It's quite manageable without ABS although you might want to reduce the braking sensitivity. Mine is set to 3(F):1(R).

F40, what a masterpiece... but well maybe a bit too hard to drive stock for me :D

With my brand new G27, ABS 1, TCS 0, stock tyres and AT (I still don't feel ready for manual....at all.) I can't go under 8.30

To me the F40 (and the McLaren F1) are so enjoyable because they feel so raw and back into the corners beautifully! Doesn't matter that they're not as quick as other supercars because they just feel so 'analogue' Using the clutch and shifter adds so much to that!!

Few weeks ago I did little "old supercars championship" on Nordschleife, stock cars, no assists (except ABS set to 2), manual gearbox and really strange conclusion ...

1. Jaguar XJ220 7:27.217
2. Cizeta Moroder V16T 7:34.913
3. Ferrari F40 7:36.161
4. Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary 7:37.647
5. RUF CTR Yellow Bird 7:44.084

As one can see, XJ220 is the fastest, in fact it's as fast as new supercars (which I've tested too). Strange enough, it wasn't the fastest one beacause of its top speed (in fact, it's really slow, at least slower than it should be), it just handles the best. Much better then F40. Hmm ...

Fully agree! Except that with some minor tweaking, the McLaren is mega fast.

I know I'll probably get hammered for this but I enjoy driving the F40 so much more with racing tyres and traction control at 2 or 3, I know it's not natural for it but makes it a bit more fun for me.

You are better off driving a kart then :guilty:

There's something really wrong with the stock F40. The real F40 is not the most managable car in the world but at least it does have grip when cornering contrary to the GT5 one which starts sliding on almost every corner. Sports medium tyres seem to give a clsoer to real life behaviour.

The GT5 f40 seems very point and squirt. I only seem to be able to get the best out it with lots of stabbing on the throttle and brakes rather than smooth action. The grip levels do seem love for what it was supposed to be during its era.

It's far better with a custom gearbox and because it annoyed me I painted it metallic green with gold rims....that'll teach it.

You, my friend, need help.

;)

But seriously, mastering that car on the most demanding track for me is about
about as rewarding as winning the Vettel challenge. Absolutely love it!

Someone from my psn friends list challenged me to give this a go around a month ago. I cant remember the exact times but it was somewhere around the 7:34 area. That was without any upgrades, assists or ABS and using the Sport Hard tyres its fitted with. Its a very tough car to drive on the limit.

In fairness I didn't use the H shifter though.

I loved it in the licence challenges, which lead me to buy it shortly after. Its one of the best looking Ferraris, though i've not timed it around the Nurb on sports hards, i swapped em out for sport softs, enjoy it more that way.

As for the Mclaren F1, its the fastest supercar in its power range, atleast if you don't include the racing car types (Zonda R, Mazda Furai).

But the F40, is one of the best drivers cars in the game.

Yes it is so fun round the ring.

Anyway, keep in mind that the proper Ferrari F40 is way lighter than its GT5 counterpart, which is a version for the US market.
Once you put all the ingame weight reductions on it you will hit around 1125Kgs, which is only 25Kgs more than the actual F40.

I'm regularly driving the F40, without any aids, no ABS, sport hard tires with G25 clutch at the Green Hell. One hell of fun. Times are bad as hell as well, but it's for the fun.
For me, the Mclaren F1 is too easy to handle. It's faster then all the other street legal cars and handles better. Fun to drive, yes, but not as challenging as a damn F40.

That's the dry weight I believe. It would probably be closer to 1200+ Kgs with a full tank of fuel and all fluids.

Managed to get a 7:39 without ABS. Find it easier to brake into the corners without it somehow. What an experience though! Wonderful! :D

I had one take with the F40.

Sport hard tires, stock car, no abs, no aids, an track edge to real (makes a hughe difference in laptimes like 10-15 secs)

Far from perfect as I didn't want to spend more than one shot at the feet, but even then you end up with a smile painted on your face.

Done this last week in an online lobby.

Took my chrome F40 (yes, it looks good, definitely NOT ugly) with racing medium tires (prefer to have grip rather than slip-slide) to the 'Ring.

As soon as it passes the stage of slow acceleration and gets into the curves, it's just a dream ride. It handles incredibly well, and while all the other mindless idiots I had more powerful cars, some of them couldn't drive to save their ass. Of course I spun out a couple times due to one of my tires going into the dirt, but that was only 2-3 times.

Never finished the race as the leader passed the finish line before I could even get to the strait.

This car is probably my favorite car besides the Alfa Romeo TZ2.

Nice lap DR!! It is so much fun :)

Cool video but its pointless to heel toe in GT5 as it has autoblip on, so it does it on its own ^^.

It doesnt blip. Not in H gated mode. As soon as you press the clutch, the autoblip is disabled. If you press a paddle to shift, blip is back again.

Yeah and using the clutch is awesome except I have a habit of missing the 1-2 shift!! But when it works it's great!!

Blame the game, not yourself.

You can see me taking 1st to 2nd shift very carefully since in this game the clutch seems to slip every now and then without a reason.

F40 has no front downforce... you'll find the topic discussed in the tuning forum...
I would never drive this thing stock.
After hours of tuning on the Nurb, it's still tied for the worst car I've run on the nurb... (the other car I can't remember, I just remember being really angry when I found an equally crappy car)...

I'd probably slam my keyboard into the monitor if I tried Stock & Sports tires....
