My room mate bought what I like to call "The Last Attractive Subaru We Will Ever See", a 2005 Outback Wagon. That's the new grill, from my understanding, for the entire lineup.

Pardon me while I go puke my lunch up.

It's Ugly with a capital "Ugh".

I was just starting to really like Subies again and they let Chris Bangle into the design department after a two-week tequila and sake bender.
Ick, just Ick.

Don't like the 2005 Legacy 2.0GT?

Actually, that's high on my list of cars to check into next year.

I looked closely at the bearcrap-brown one on the dealer's lot today. Let's call it Il Mostro, 'the monster' in Italian. The worst part about this thing - that huge smiley smile is mostly fake! The actual grille opening is only a few inches wide on either side of the fishmouth. There's two feet of fake grille on either side of it.

I can't believe that the company that facelifted the original WRX 2 years into production just to reduce the bugeye effect could turn around and unleash this POS 2 years after that. And just a year after the gorgeous Legacy/Liberty GT!

Did they suddenly develop a crack habit or something?

Where did you guys come up with "2.0GT?" This is America, not the land of the wusses (Asia, Europe). Our Legacy and Outback has a 2.5-liter turbo, not a puny, wimpy 2.0, and it puts out 250 horsepower. Boo-yeah.

Did you know he's from Ohio? Isn't that a little ironic? The man's the head of design at one of the most prestigious German auto firms and he's from Ohio, for Christ's sake.

Subaru meets Alfa Romeo. Am I right? This is perhaps an unholy marriage. I seen it at the Houston Auto Show this year, and I was like... I may not like Subaru's styling on some of their future cars. I'm not real big on Alfa Romeo, but this almost singlehandedly will drive away (no pun intended) Subaru loyalists. So maybe while most of us hate Chris Bangle to BMW, this Alfa Romeo guy is likely to be responsible for this machine not looking like a beautiful swan. So yeah, Duke. What WERE they thinking? It has that Porsche Cayenne look to its headlights.

There's another thing about all of this, though. Wasn't it that Alfa Romeo wanted to return to America? Perhaps this is what they are going for, but I don't think it's going to be an Italian manufacturer representative butchering the designs of a well-respected Japanese company. I think if Alfa Romeo is planning on coming to America, this isn't the way to go. Hell, I'd take their 220-something hp GT on American highways. That car looks very sporty and very serious. Give America the GTV and/or the Spider. An old A.R. 155 would be nice too. But if it's going to be Subaru and this Alfa Romeo designer, I'd hate to imagine what the next Subaru Impreza will look like. I know there was an old thread on what the next Impreza COULD look like, but this would be capital murder.

I'd probably never buy it, but I like the design. Again, keep in mind I like Honda Element design also. :) I think VipFreak mentioned Porsche SUV? I do see the similarities(headlights?). If Tribeca is going to cost $40,000 though, I'd opt for(not that I can afford that) V6 Porsche and pay few more grand.

Subaru execs: Hey, we were an airplane-related company – let's stick airplane motifs on our next car!
Designers: Cool!

Public: ****heads.

Yeah. Lord knows our family loves Subarus—I mean, does anybody else at GTP have a BRAT?—but this is just ugly, not Subaru-loveable-quirky. It makes the Audi Q7 look good (not easy to do).
Brat owner claiming the new Subaru SUV is ugly...... that's gotta be pretty bad, right? :D

I never thought they could create something even worse than this:

Given that they've backed down on the Impreza round headlights, I just hope this grille will have the same treatment. :scared: And at least to my knowledge Aztecs were not overpriced.
 Giugiaro designed that! I must be a one weird dude. I liked that one, too.

Everything's way too curvy and spaceship-like for me... It looks like they pulled the dash out of an old Toyota Previa, and sticked some more random stuff to it. You can probably fit an extra large pizza on the flat part at the bottom of the windshield.
It does look really curvy. I don't know, it looks nice and I might like it, once I sit in the drivers' seat.

P.S. I love the Alfa styling!

What's wrong with liking that? It's nice, just a little genericish.
The one time I can recall seeing one I followed it for 4 blocks trying to figure out what it was.

edit: I just looked at the pictures in the GTPAAC thread. I thought the back couldn't possibly be as bad as the front, but it is.

i dont know who subaru is trying to appeal to with that hideous thing.

its up there with the aztek...

I actually like the Aztek's design; probably even more if they fully redesigned it. If it was a Toyota, I'd buy it. But it's built by GM from a company they may potantially kill off in the future, so it turns me off completely.

(By the way, did anyone notice that B9 sounds like benign--"gentle; gracious" as my dictionary says? It definitely ain't benign... more like controvercial if anything.)

I can't say the B9 Tribeca is ugly, just polarizing. You have to consider that a percentage of people will love it anyways. The Aztek still sells, and in this case, if everyone thinks the B9 is sooooooo ugly, then people will buy it mainly because it's an AWD Subaru SUV.

EDIT: Oh, and the speedometer in the Toyota Previa pic creeps me out--it looks really odd in my opinion.

During a trip to Indiana we drove past the SIA plant (Subaru of Indiana Automotive) where the Legacy, Outback, Baja, and B9 Tribeca are all made, meaning we saw plenty of truck loads of the new B9 Tribeca being delivered. I have to say the back is the worst part, the front I can live with. However their new grill design isn't the death of Subaru, it works quite well on the R1 and R2, and the new Impreza is certainly liveable.
