can we have mid field or trail mountain or deep forest with a car THAT DOESNT TAKE LONG TO WIN or can be BOUGHT plz as these are the tracks im good with and im sure many people like these. just my .02

Laguna Seca, Apricot Hill, SSR5, and Super Spedway are all tracks that I would like to see.

What about trying to organize a live race?

Maybe do races on set days and at a specified times where anyone that can be available has 30 minutes to race that weeks specific race and that's it.

Comments please.

Are you thinking, we have a little roll call, Everybody has an hour to check in (hey, we could set up a little free chat room for the announcement? :D ) and you announce the race. In less than 30 minutes, we have to post our time back up in here?

I suck at settings, so would you announce if it was an Arcade car 👍 or if there was settings we had to work off of? I like the idea of it. :)

Nice idea Boombexus 👍

Hey Ellegance! Why are you invisible? :odd:

Good suggestion. Arcade car would do best as it just tests a racers skill at racing and not tuning.

30 minutes can be changed of course if people feel that isn't enough time.
Setting up race times would be a task in order to get everyone involved from all over the world, but I think we could work it out.

An AOL chatroom could suffice wouldn't you think?

Hi Boombexus, I'm not invisible, just at work. I have access from here, but it's only for relatively short moments :(. So I tend to surf without logging in

So I'll post and be gone in a flash.

I kinda think this is a sweet idea. Just jump in and go. An AOL chat room would be great. Of course, we'd all have to PM in our times to someone and then have that person post them up at one time. ;) Cause we wouldn't want to tip our hand before the time is up. sounds like it's a good thing.

That sounds like fun. My times for week 36 were pathetic for the first couple of hours and I was questioning whether I could hang with you guys at all. It took me a long time to get any times that were decent, so I would probably be terrible at the 30 minute race, but I'd be willing to give it a go - it sounds like a logistics nightmare though.

I'd suggest that we still have a regular race for the people who can't do the live race. Since the live race will take up a total of 30 minutes and the regular race can offer hours of entertainment, I think it would be a good idea to have both.

I like the ideas about money limits, I think that has a lot of potential... do I get super sticky tires or the custom transmission and medium tires??

I also like the idea of an endurance, maybe even one with AI cars, but it would be tough to run a clean endurance race. Without the AI, it would be tough to have a replay.

More suggestions:

Maybe a cylinder limit, or a weight limit (min or max)....
or a horespower limit as previously mentioned.
Could also try a stock race.
I like the sim tires idea.
How about a hot lap at complex string? (maybe that's been done)
How about a top speed limit? (transmission governed)
How about a fully specified tuning setup that is designed to make the car rediculously hard to handle
Maybe just pick a tough car to handle like a lotus or a TVR in sim tires and specify no TCS or ASM.
How about specifying a horespower range? (500<hp<600)
What about a competition with different tracks (everyone picks their favorite), maybe divide the time on the track by some normalized number assigned to each track (Time Trial numbers or something).
I like the idea about using the wet track.
What about a rally race? (<-I would so totally be last place)
How about going around a track backwards that isn't suppose to be done backwards (like monaco or laguna), and then having to do it forward (through twice) after crossing the finishline backward?

Maybe I announce the race for the week and that would give an opportunity for everyone to practice at it. And then for those that couldn't make the live races could still then post up a time. (However, results would be set up for those who participated live and for those who did not.)
Then, schedule the last 3 or 4 days of the week as race days. That should give enough opportunity for everyone to get a chance to race live.
Or possibly have an assistant that lives on the other side of the planet. *cough* Mr. Holland *cough* help me out for times when it's more convenient for our friends around the world.

When specific times to race are set up, I could open up a chat room so that everyone can "check in" so to speak.
Then once everyone is ready, spend 30 minutes on the race and have the results submitted to me by PM before the deadline.

I think it would be quite interesting to see how everyone would performe in a pressure situation. And also not having the time to be able to do 100 consecutive laps for shaving off those ever so valuable .100 of a second.

boom,
i like that idea!!!

give us like 3-5 days to find the right setup and all that
and on the weekend (either sat or sun), we can do live races for say 30 or so minutes

it will be fun... especially since we will all know that we are trying our best at the same given time

once again.. its a great idea!!
count me in for this

I took the time to read some of the above post, and erased what was originally posted...

I noticed aol chat rooms was brought up and that's really the only way to do a race like what boom was thinking. I would take part if given the oppurtunity.

Arcade cars would also be a must for this, so good call on that one too. (ellegance I think?)

I wanted to suggest a few races to give us all the chance to run some of the less popular cars.

A Front/Front challenge... any front engine front wheel drive car. No race cars.(rules out the awesome rally xsara... I think thats the car:confused: )

A Tuner Challenge. 500 hp limit. This rules out the tom's chaser, but keeps a possible competition alive for stuff like the spoon civic.

Both races would need proper mating with track.

Oh yeah, a major oversteer fest with the speed 12 would probably help everyone with their overall abilities.

Well think those over and let me know what you think.
thanks,

Ps. forgot... in a live race, you would need to do something like give the car early, but not the track. Getting 3-4 days of practice and racing for 30 minutes is sorta silly because it gets rid of the idea that you are racing on your initial impressions of the track car combo.
Well, thats why I would want to race a 1/2 hour race, for the chance to do one session and see how it stacked up to other peoples very first trys at a race.

Sorry to rant on...
edit:
I just thought about the tuner race... got me thinking about an mrs autobacs/ spoon s2000 racecar/ anything else similar sort of challenge.
what do you think?

LOL just have everyone fly in for a few hours of I-link every week or so....... lol jk....... although that would be extremely fun. Sorry if this has no relevance.

Live races seem like they would be difficult to organize (what with the different timezones and everything). Maybe a large gathering of GTPers who are into the OLR; even though we all live at various locations areound the globe; it might be an interesting thing...

Ok, it's been stated that I should post my ideas in here, seeing as how people are too lazy to scroll up to the top of the page. For the record, I think we should run a greater veriety of tracks in the weeklies; Laguna Seca, for one, is much missed by myself in the weekly series, SSR5 would be a good one to see, maybe even some of the round tracks. Also, maybe running races with a car-qualifier of a horsepower window (you know, something like 550-650 bhp cars...). Those were my suggestions, now you can't say I don't post in this thread...

Good deal.

As for laguna, I don't see why it wouldn't be around sometime in the future.

We ran that course with the evo/wrx challenge, as well as with the gmac vette.

If we ran laguna, I would like to see some major torque, but low enough hp limits that the oreca wouldn't start a one car week.

Im not too concerned with track... Cars are what I want to see specifics of.

Boom, good luck on picking something for next week.

Another one just popped into my head; Grand Valley. I don't think I remember seeing that one in the immediate past, so I think it would be a good one to include...

It has been awhile since we've done grand valley...i dont even remember the last time it was we ran it.....the Opel Astra is coming to mind tho. yeah, thats the last car we ran on the track, and we had the ford falcon on GVII awhile back too. tho i NEVER want to drive that car again, EVER

Well, maybe a 70k shotout? or 80k? possible matchup against two different car manufactures?

With what cars we should race on my mind...

I would like to see a designed race to keep an "equal" playing field. 500 hp worked well with prodution japanese cars. Made for a 3 or 4 car race. nsx, rx7, s2000, evo... all cars are relatively close in overall power and hp/w.

I suggest this layout at any chance we have.

I like the idea of the 'online' synchronised racing...
Only problem I can see is the different time zones sort of thing. What time of the day would it be made so as to keep it the most accessable to all racers.

Well, I was thinking around 10 am my time. That would be 12 noon on the east coast and about 6pm in London.

Of course if I have the day off, I can do a few more times to make it more convenient for everyone.

Personally I would like to see a 5 lap arcade race using arcade cars. Less time tuning, more time driving. And why do we ALWAYS have to have 500+ HP? This is the first week we've EVER been below 450 or so if I recall correctly. It takes a lot of skill to drive a 140 HP car quickly around a track because all of your mistakes make you lose more time. I love those 800+HP cars as much as the next guy but it would be fun to wring out a showroom stock vehicle every once in a while.:mischievous:

Real time racing sounds interesting :) I guess the best way to do it would be to start up a new forum/thread for it so that races could be arranged and times set, rules would have to be adjusted to allow for mistakes that are bound to occur (going off & contact with the AI).I also think it should be an extra to the weekly series (I know I've only run one round, I’m not really into fully tuned cars and T8 tyres). I’ve got to agree that arcade mode cars are the way to go.

Thinking about it using the i-link mode that allows single player to run on his/her own (without the AI) for a user specified number of laps with a user specified tyre wear rate may be good for this….the car and track combo could be announced in advance to allow the racers to practice and then on race day the number of laps and tyre wear rate could be specified just before the race is run. The down side is that you would be limited to arcade mode cars as in i-link races.

I have a suggestion... Hows about giving us a race with the Mazda MX5 1.8rs fully tuned with Sims... Tried this car out this week, and was having so much fun (albiet setting rather poor times but fun none the less)...

miata13B would love that. I think CFM would to. Maybe I can do some testing and see what happens.

What other cars would you say fit in a class with a Miata?

Can we hybrid it with a 2 gen RX7 engine??? :D

How about an all rally race on grandvalley.

All rally cars except the escudo, or for that matter, maybe some more restrictions on power and include any cars that can use dirt tires.

The road stage that every rally race needs... thats what this could be. Of course, its all on you.
