If not already in the works, can the header bar at the top of the forum/thread page be locked/frozen, whichever it takes, so it, and its links, stay put when scrolling through posts?

Thereby taking away still more usable screen real estate? No, thanks.

Too may sites are doing this already.

So, you'd rather scroll up 30 posts so you can hit the links up there to return to a general area? I'm not talking about the social site links either. I'm specifically talking about the News and Forum tab and the search field. Adaptively speaking, and this is an estimate, it appears to be less than 1/8th of the page.

Sure. That's why there's a scrollbar on the right; makes it easy. But I usually don't even do that; I hit the "back" button.

I'll either hit backspace/delete, or the Home button. On the iPhone, double-tapping near the top of the screen scrolls to the very top of the page.

On other sites, with a larger number of navigation options (and more importantly, dedicated space for them to take up as you scroll), it makes sense, but personally, I don't see it as too necessary when I'm browsing here. Everything's a button-press or double-tap away.

Hitting the back button hasn't been refreshing which threads I've already read. The links for latest posts and watched threads are on the Forums page. Yes, scrolling up is easy enough. Would be faster if the link was just there and one flick of my thumb (logitech trackball) and a click would get me there. I do most of my navigating on GTP site with a PC browser. Typing on my phone just takes to long. Only use that when I don't have a PC handy. Which isn't very often.

Thanks for the responses in any case.

I built this functionality into some of the design prototypes, but compatibility with touch-based devices is still somewhat sketchy. I may or may not revisit this in the future, but persistent navigational elements are on my radar.

Any way to make them optional, if and when? I'm pretty much happy with the navigational tools built into the browser.

Oh, put the added navigational elements in the blank bars on the sides!
