No, the sounds are always too clean, predictable and weak sounding, and GT's are still more so compared to the competition, maybe GT's are more "accurate" in some ways but they are no way there yet.

This will always be the case until all sounds are "modeled" (simulated/created on the fly) with all aspects and systems of a car contributing to the simulation. Obviously this is a loooooooong off way away if ever.

Sound is probably even more complicated to do properly than the physics.

Sound would be if it was all done live blending like gt5 is but if I'm honest I would rather have the real sounds dubbed over when decelerating even if it makes it predictable it would sound amazing and any way this is like what shift does and it works for them fine. I would rather be able to say that sounds real rather than saying thats made real time but sounds crap!

I wish the sounds were "better" too. And yes i heard it at 16 seconds.

That car, that exhaust system, those cams, that transmission, that air intake all aren't in GT5, individual cars and exhaust and transmission setups, sequential etc all change a car's noise.

Look at the vids i posted of cars that actually are in GT5 and say they are "wrong" . ?

good youposted those. and no the sounds in gt5 arent exactly ( or even near ) the sounds in real life.. just listen to the acceleration & so... gears shifting isnt NEAR the real thing.. doesnt matter if its PORSCHE or gtr in gt500 the point is that the sound isnt like what it isnt in real life.. just get a grip. i find it poor that you dont hear the difference & then you start complaining about the posts of others? man its sad.

Yeah, what I had in mind was 99% realism simulation stuff, simulating the air, acoustics and vibrations moving through every part of the car, ignition by ignition, rev by rev.
Basically a real car with a microphone, tied to your game, but this car is in your computer.
Though of course you need to completely physically simulate the cars internal parts and everything else that has an effect to the finest detail.

I agree with you, theres still heaps of room for continuing improvement using recorded sounds and that other games have gone some way.
I remember seeing a caterham at nurburgring in a video from rfactor/lfs dont know unfortunately I cant find it anymore, it was absolutely amazing.

It was like your lamborghini video, screaming, crackling, warping etc when it fitted. Like it's alive and ready rip your head off if your not careful.
As opposed to what sounds like a sound recording bending up and down based on the rpm, switching between a few different samples based on the rpm, a very loud whine in the background based on your speed and whether your acceleration then the occasional psshhh from a few cars when you change gears.

PD's problem is that they keep talking about "engine noise" when they should be thinking more in terms of car noise, the engine makes up only a part of the overall noise that a car makes. A real sim should take every noise that is generated by driving a car fast on a track or road & seek to recreate it.

You want to hear a clearer difference in sounds, set your audio in GT5 to large theater. The acoustical ranges are much larger than what you would normally get out of tv speakers. Not sure what PD was doing there but man o man that is some clear effects.

Now I hope PD will add more to the sound department such as the sounds of exploding fuel exiting the tailpipe on deceleration, that burbling sound you hear in the Lamborghini video it's weird but that high pitched scream is just like the LP 670-4.

I also noticed that the 787B in that video is fully automatic, is that how the real car was?

Nice post VBR but seriously that idea would literally take years to accomplish, unless PD actually farmed out sound tech to record sounds of cars especially at race events during their time trials and track setup testing, this would be awesome to include as you would get more realistic sounds of the engine under load. That still has draw backs as you have to filter the other sounds like wind noise and tire noise and general ambiance. Only if they could test these cars in a vacuum or something like that.

Hope PD works on sound separation even more, and get the sounds of a car under load at least doing a launch up to 100mph, then deceleration from 100mph back to 0mph. Then idling, then open revving to red line. Only issue is how do they work in sound changes when your car is at sea level, below sea level and above sea level...so many variables to worry about.

Seems a lot of people in here all speak a lot of sense and all what the same thing, its just ashame PD don't listen to this. And I think VBR is bang on PD are looking at engine and exhaust noise but all the great noise comes from all the components clanging together creating a magic symphony. SavageEvil is right as well we do need more testing under load as this load is what creates the depth to the sound. I just hope PD just change there ideas and instead of creating a flowing synthetic noise they create an imitation that may not be as complex but boy it would sound great.

On another note racing exhausts need to be sorted just look at this for an example.

here is gt5 with racing pipes watch from 3:25,

now listen to a real lambo with racing pipes( watch from 14 seconds),

oh PD need to dump the distortion!

and for the pleasure of your ears!

On another note when is this coming to gt5
