super gt flashing lights.

While watching a super GT race, I noticed that on the straights, some drivers flash their lights, for what reason and is it any benefit doing this in an online race on gt5?

It's basically telling a slow car to get out of the way. It isn't really useful online, but it looks cool on the replay if everyone does it right.

Really? So it isnt some evil people trying to blind people in front of them to mess their driving up? I wonder if they should implement some sort better way of reconising flashing lights, like the mirrors lights up brightly and impairs your vison just a little, not enough to stop you driving comfortably, but to let you know they are there wanting to overtake etc.

Check out the headlights 'flash' on the Calsonic Impulse GTR '08 GT500 car (I think) they 'dance' rather than flash - quite cool, especially on tracks with time delay when it starts to get dark.

Not sure if other GT500 GTR's have this too though - possibly.

I think there's two settings though, one is a normal 'standard' flash like on cars in real life, the other makes them flash on and off very quickly and alternate between the different lights, it looks quite cool, well some think anyway :D

As mentioned, normally in the race series I run in it means 'get out of the way' when someone is closing you down, or alternatively, if you're letting someone back onto track after an accident, spin, crash or mistake it can mean - 'you go ahead'.

You mean high beam? If it is, same principle for doing it in real life. You don't want to blind them, rather to get their attention. You are not sure who goes first in 4 way stop, you high beam to give way. You don't want to honk, use your high beam.

Flashing your high beams means for the driver in front of you to move aside so you can overtake. If you watch races all the time like the 24 Hours of Le Mans you'll notice them doing this a lot.

Surely, I cannot the only one who thought of constantly flashing the lights while driving on Nordschliefe at midnight to give the other players epileptic fits.

I don't think you can get a racing licence if you suffer from epileptic fits.

Aren't the flashing headlights to let other drivers know that you're about to lap them so to let you pass?

Yes they are. Some drivers also try it when trying to pass for position as well. I've not seen anyone fall for it though.

Its to let slower class cars know your about to pass them. Alot of series where your allowed to use your headlights many drivers use the high beams and if possible spotlights to distract the driver ahead of them too.

I think you can do this if the driver you want to pass has one or more lost laps. Not fighting for position. A driver with lost laps has to give room to pass to the other driver without fight.

Bzzzt wrong, if you are one lap down you are allowed to fight to keep your position, its frowned upon if you are a slower car (same class I'm talking here) and a kind of gentlemans agreement not to hold up a faster car of the same class but your entitled to fight to keep your lap.
