Nice combo! WRX v EVO!! now to pick the car ?? 💡
heheh nice to see you back Kent!! :D
Amazing story :)
love the 'Ring'!

~~~~Jase
Evo all the way but id rather use the standard evo 8 than the MR.
Well, there are four reasons for what I have just done...
What have I just done you ask?
I've changed the Evo used as well as the specs.
Instead of the Evo 8 MR, we will now use the Evo 8 GSR '03.
Why?
1) There have been no lap entries made yet.
2) When I made the challenge I had forgotten about the evo 8 GSR.
3) The GSR '03 is a better match up (the MR is a better match for the impreza "spec C").
4) Because one of the few to reply to this thread suggested the change. :D
So please note the changes in the tuning and car. 👍
Hope that brings a bit more color to the race. :sly:
Also hope it makes things a little more even.
Specs noted for the WRX vs EVO.
Will give it a run later :D
Evo v WRX testing, well first car i tested out was the evo 8 MR i found that car too be a bit too bumpy on the the ring, but it wasnt as bad as the WRX, the wrx performed awfully to my disappointment anyhow, im pretty sure some tuning freaks out there could tune the car so it doesnt roll so badly, and braking and accelerating jeepers
These are slow times but nowhere near my finals
EVO 8 MR time : 7.10 (with DFP, probably someone could easily get 6:45 or lower i think)
WRX time: 7:20 (shockingly bad, i ran off the course a few times too, on a DS2 im better with a ds2)
Yeh i saw the change u made also with the evo, ill try that soon! :)
Dont get me wrong i love the wrx, just i thought it could do better :indiff:
Most likely ill probably go with the evo! 👍
Thanks for participating.
Keep up the good work and keep at it.
I just went and ran a lap in the WRX... Made me instantly realize that my memory is worse than my GT driving. :lol:
I saw 7'10 and thought to myself "damn I'm getting smoked." :(
Turns out my memory was recalling 8 minute laps and not 7 minute laps. :ouch:
Sorry about the confusion. :guilty:
Thanks again for running... Hope you enjoy the racing. :cheers:
hmmm... ill check my times!! my wrx lap was awful! ran off the track about 10 times or more! evo lap was clean as, im pretty sure its the same as what u said. i even got a lower HP then what u gave out.. i think it was because i didnt do oil change!
Exact times are
Shocking times :crazy:
Evo 8 MR : 7:16:xxx (DFP)
WRX : 7:31:xxx (DS2)
With the WRX i had:
- Triple Plate
- LSD (did nothing with it)
- Racing Tranny (dunno why i got this)
- Racing Suspension (i lowered the height and strengthen the springs.. made the car a bit more bearable.. but thats about my knowledge about the suspension?)
Probably go with ur settings on with the evo.. But will try it with the wrx too :D
~~~~ Jase

All good Jase, or atleast I hope so.

I went and did some checking of my own and the story is what replaced my previous reply through an edit. :ouch:

Sorry about the confusion.
Keep at it and you will bring that time down. 👍

Also, if you do anything like what "I'm doing*" let me know. ;)

All the laps I've run in the Evo and the WRX have been on... Now get this...
Twin Plate Clutch
Semi Racing Flywheel
(no LSD upgrade)
(no Tranny upgrade)

Semi racing suspension
(no brake balancer)

Etc etc...
I consider it a true stage 2 tuning. Stage 3 would be more like fully custom parts on everything with full power upgrades.
Stage 2 on the other hand... I think of it being just what I've described- Semi racing parts and only slight power upgrades (although I admit that a stage 3 weight reduction does go against the grain in this).

Anyway, like I said... Have fun! :cheers:

Well just got the EVO 8 GSR
all of the above settings as what Kent wrote, except for the oil change.
I also include these parts:

Twin Clutch
Semi Racing Flywheel
Semi Racing Suspension

Thats about it (No brakes, trans, etc.)

Time is 7:17.067 (3 offs)

Just a question out loud, what to do with TSM and ASM off or on, or driver's preference?
I think one of the reasons why the WRX was awful was i turned it off, with the evo, i accidently left it on, now come back to think of it, i should test the wrx again and see what time i get with the asm and tcs on (stock)...

WRX (yay) ASM 10 each and TCS 7 (i think thats the stock)

New Time : 7:18.55x

Same mods as the evo + Kent's mods :D

~~~~ Jase
1 lap got a 6'49.xxx
Went off badly @ pflztgarden???
Everytime i turn in on the brakes the bastard of a car oversteers!!
Im running Stock LSD and VCD, and the power mods Kent says, everything else Racing.
EVO VIII GSR
Ah now I see. I thought Something was wrong with either my understanding or your calculations. When I started to practice for the race I kitted up a Evo 8 GSR and the impreze wrx sti spec C because I thought that was the car you ment seeing as you said the evo 8 mr. Then when I tuned both cars as you said the impreza had a much lower power to weight ratio to the evo which raised my eyebrow.
Looks like im just going to have to start all over again now but good race. Whens the deadline?
What tires are you racing with? Is it compulsary to have supersoft as I cant race with supersofts they have too much grip as Ive long gotten used to racing with hards.
Hi there Kent, i hope that all ppl in your place got back to home as you did...
Although im slow driver i will try tu put my 3 cents into that short time competition - i will use EVO cos im interested in what can i do with it on the rong...
1st run got a 7.21.621 Running hard tires.
Full suspension and drivetrain upgrage to racing spec.
Will run a 7.05.xxx max I think. On hard tires that is.
Will try it with supersofts and try and get used to them.
Well I've just completed a clean lap, here's the breakdown...
Subaru Impreza WRX Sti '02
Super Soft Tires
Original Spoiler
Oil Change
Semi Racing Exhaust
Sports Racing Chip
Sports Intercooler
Stage 1 Turbo
Stage 3 Weight Reduction
Racing Brakes
Semi Racing Suspension
Twin Plate Clutch
Semi Racing Flywheel
Carbon Driveshaft
No Brake Balancer
Stock Transmission
Stock LSD
Stock VCD
TCS 0
ASM 0
Springs: Front 4.8 - Rear 4.1
Ride Height: Front 113 - Rear 113
Shock Absorbers: Front 8 - Rear 8
Camber Angle: Front 2.0 - 1.0
Final Clean Lap Time: 6'45.405
Comments:
I found the WRX to be stable and well balanced.
Although there was a bit of drifting during the lap, most of the sliding was easily corrected and could have been avoided with a bit more caution. However, the drifts did add to the speed of the lap in certain sections (not to mention how awesome it looks in a replay).
The semi-racing equipment did quite well, especially the suspension. 👍
Suprisingly, the stock transmission brought me to 180.9 mph without topping out (but went to redline on the back straight, still no top-out).
As for the rest of the stock parts, they all did well. The LSD is unnecessary due to the tires' grip and the VCD doesn't seem to be need with my suspension settings.
I was very happy with the feel of the Impreza and have slowly come to recognize that PD might not favor one of these two over the other. :cheers:
The lap could be faster I am sure, but for now, my time will be enough to keep me happy and working on laps with other cars.
Hope those settings help some of you. 👍
Back later with more news, updates, racing, and narration. :D
Till then,
Later. :sly:
My choice -
Impreza 02'
405BHp
vcd control - 30
racing brakes
sports suspension - camber at 1 degree - 118/123 ride height - 5/4 dampers
twin plate clutch
semi racing flywheel
carbon prop shaft
only had time for 3 laps which were as follows
6.58.xxx (3 offs)
7.08.xxx (4 offs with a spectacular double 360 at adenauer Forst)
6.48.418 with a good few seconds still available
One thing wrong with this combo Kent is the tyres mate - they are just too grippy, i think it would be better with S3 or S2 maybe - real life a car like this would probably run a cut slick trackday tyre but not a full on 47K qualifier!
EDIT - no driving aids used...
INteresting tho....
7.05.453 on softs.
Managed a 7.12.392 on mediums.
I wanna see BMW M3 VS AUDI S4 and Corvette Z06 VS VIPER. M5 VS E55
FOCUS RS VS NEON SRT4. CLIO SPORT VS CIVIC TYPE R
ZONDA VS SPEED 12 Elise vs vx220. Jaguar S type R VS Audi RS6
Interesting idea Kent. I'm not feeling too motivated for the 'Ring at the moment, but a little Ford RS200 vs. Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 (both road cars) might get me suitably excited :p MR + 4WD = FUN!
Ok, just a few things here then it's back to the racing for me. :D
1) Dave George,
Sounds to me like that's a personal problem more than a problem with the race. ;)
Too much grip? On S3s at tuning like this I would say it's too little grip. :lol:
So I suppose it's just a matter of personal prefference. 👍
2) Luxy,
Hope I can eventually get you into the racing but it's all good.
Thanks for the great suggestion though.
3) I would like to ask that any time submissions be labeled as "official time submission."
That will let me know the lap is clean and at the same time it will let me know that you aren't just throwing out some initial testing that you have no plans of posting on the records board.
Other than all of that, thanks for the interest.
Keep up the good racing.
Also, don't hesitate to pop in on the "GT4 Rival Cars" thread in the GT4 forum. I posted it so we could get a little more input for this race so in a short time there will surely be a few more rivalries posted.
Now back to the racing. :D
Great idea Kent 👍 👍
I picked the WRX..... just because I think it looks better than the Evo :crazy:
I like the way the WRX handles and it sounds great. The only problem I had (like Small Frys) was the brakes. If you hit the brakes to hard in the corners the back end goes crazy.
Same mods as Kent (suspension settings a little different)
Subaru Impreza WRX Sti '02 (alittle copy and paste action :sly: )
Super Soft Tires
Original Spoiler
Oil Change
Semi Racing Exhaust
Sports Racing Chip
Sports Intercooler
Stage 1 Turbo
Stage 3 Weight Reduction
Racing Brakes
Semi Racing Suspension
Twin Plate Clutch
Semi Racing Flywheel
Carbon Driveshaft
No Brake Balancer
Stock Transmission
Stock LSD
Stock VCD
TCS 0
ASM 0
Springs: Front 4.5 - Rear 4.0
Ride Height: Front 115 - Rear 115
Shock Absorbers: Front 6 - Rear 7
Camber Angle: Front 2.3 - 1.0
First Clean Lap Time: 6'43.790
(or Official Time Submission if I can submit another time, after you come back and beat me ;) )
I might it try the WRX with full mods, but I'm definitely going to try some of the other cars :D
Ok!!!
I've just made the first update to the board.
bhawk, myself, and Dave George have all been added to the board.
Young Warrior... I didn't see any "official" submissions or any submissions on super soft tires. I wasn't sure what you would want so I did not submit your time yet. Get back to me when you can with an official time submission.
If you decide to submit a time on slower tires just indincate that with your official submission. 👍
Since the M3 .vs. RGT doesn't seem to have much appeal, I may remove it (although I doubt it).
I've also taken the time to put another combo up.
However, for the sake of all you "sports" tires fans this will be an arcade mode lap. :D
(still not the greatest, but...)
TRD Celica .vs. Honda Integra Type R
PWR, HP, KG... All those numbers were checked out to match the two cars as well as possible.
The ITR still carries a PWR advantage even with its heavier weight.
However, we will just have to wait and see what lap times show us. ;)
Hope you all enjoy the racing.
I will be working on more and more of these rivalries so keep an eye out for new ones coming soon. :D
Now back to the racing. :D
Nope no personal problems here!!
I was trying to say that i feel most of the laptime is down to the huge grip generated by these tyres and that to me an S series tyre would be more appropriate, when you say on S3 at this tuning is too little grip i have to disagree, its been mentioned in the WRS this week that an N3 is similar to the standard fit M3CSL tyres which are just road legal, the S3 is a focussed trackday tyre and quite typical of what a car with this much power would have....for instance in the Uk people are running 400bhp subarus and Evos with an N3 maybe S equivalent on the road, and most of them have uprated suspension etc etc
I completed my run with just sports suspension and very little esle but did feel the tyres made me able to take risks with the car that it wasnt really capable of.
Not saying your wrong - just as you said different opinions..... :indiff:
I might take you up on the M3 GTR / RGT rivalry... my preference being on taking the M3 GTR. I still haven't had a good reason to try that car out, could be the time to do so. I know I have one in my garage just waiting to be used :)
Kent im using Evo GSr so please do not delete it.
After first session with it - 6.52.400 but please do not use that time on board - i cane shave it a little bit more also - that time was with TSC and ASM on 1;1;1 im using it cos its litte bit hard to hold a ca on the track without it...
Im just posting to let u know that somebody is using EVO.
Kent will get a official time to you tomorrow for both the evo vs impreza and rgt vs m3gtr
I've been trying the M3. I've got a 6'39 so far, with a bunch of offs. I can see 10 seconds, and I'm sure there's quite a bit more than that left in it, but I'm not having much fun. The car is just too twitchy on the R5's. I can't seem to get through pflanzgarten II because when the car lands, the front tires grip and the car does a 360 in 5th gear 👎
Ok, you guys win.
Sorry to screw you all out of 47,000 Cr.
(I'm not changing my sti race cause I love that setup)
However, the RGT M3 run... Consider it changed.
What would you all want?
S3?
RH?
That sounds good... Racing Hard. 👍
Go look it up and the changes will be in place.
Sorry about once again.
I suppose I should have just stayed out of the OLR creation buisness... Looks like the frustrations I found in other places just keep popping up no matter what I do. :(
(just comes back to me having bad taste :rolleyes: )
In any case, all I ask is that "real life" is never mentioned here again. :bowdown:
Real life is one thing I play games to get away from. :cheers:
Anyway, go check out the changes. 👍
I just completed a clean lap in the RUF on R5s :ouch:
Oh well, I guess it time to go tire shopping
For the record I happen to like the combo. 👍 👍
