The surprise car for me is the Auto Union Streamline. I didnt expect that PD would put it in.!
But its a shame you cant race with it or even drive on other tracks than the Nordschleife (not that I want too ;)

good: The handling of most cars

Bad: mustang gt 2005. 14.70s in the quater mile? come on!! Stock Ford GT is disapointing too. especialy considering its n the cover and title screen... :yuck:
Yeah, a magazine I have got mid 13's out of an 05 Mustang.

Is there anybody reading this who is in any way surprised that KY and his boys have apparently screwed up these two American supercars deliberately?

The anti-American bias of the developers is open and blatant.

Oh stop it, It's plenty more cars with the same problem. They still didn't fix the Zonda's stock models. Theos can't stop either.

Oh stop it, It's plenty more cars with the same problem. They still didn't fix the Zonda's stock models. Thoes can't stop either. A lot of cars are better than they were in GT3. (The cars that was in GT3) You just have to know what your doing. I bet if people learned what are all the setting are really used for, and use more percise settings. These issues wouldn't occur and they would have a better running car. I will post setting definitions tonight when I get home from work. I'll give a example.

Where do you set your "Brake Balance Contoller" level to? Is it high or low.
Stay tuned for the truth tonight. I garentee it will make a diffrence in your driving.
Only the educated Automotive guys on this fourm knows the secrets of settings.
See U tonight.

The thing that surprised me most about the 2005 Ford Mustang was how agile it was on the road course. Some usually like to stereotype that muscle cars are better in a straight line than on a road course. Well, this machine doesn't suck. In fact, around my way, I'm starting to see more of the 2005 Mustangs on the road, many of which without the extra auxillary lights. I like the extra lights because of the throwback to the 1960s Mustangs. The ones with the extra lights next to the main headlights were the Shelby GT350s, and the ones with the two extra lights in the center were the Shelby GT500 Mustangs (not to be confused with the JGTC's GT500 class, for those of you who would be confused). Anyhow, the car is very agile. I have it as one of my tuner cars. It qualifies as a very good club racing car. So if I did the online thing and raced in an all-2005 Mustang race, you'd probably see my Red Fire Clearcoat Metallic Mustang competing, with its rear wing placement, racing tires, and a nice suspension setup.

I'm not kidding. Own the 2005 Mustang GT in GT Mode, tune it up right, and you too can dominate the road courses.

The other surprise car I have? The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII Super Rally Car. It costs 1,250,000 in the game, but with some tuning it would make a nice GT300 or maybe even a DTM contender.

I have yet to try the "Super Rally Car." Is it really worth the money, John?

Edit: Add in the 1954 Corvette to my list... I dunno if it really does handle as it "feels" but it just makes a Miata feel numb in comparison, even stock with the PowerGlide 2spd. It is the only way to describe it.

When I first seen this machine, I thought it was some real powerful Lancer, but it is a rally racer with some aggressive styling. I was expecting this to be something like a touring car or something, just by looks alone. I haven't dominated any rallies with it (that's why I have the Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car), but it performs greatly. On the road course, however, you'll have to tune for higher speeds, meaning that some Final Gear tuning would work well. After all, it's settings are for rally races where you need hard acceleration out of corners. I think I tested Grand Canyon Normal with it in Arcade Mode, I ripped out a time of about 2:33.446. The only other time I had for this track was the Suzuki Excudo at 2:42.951. It is a great-handling rally car. So it's no wonder when you make it to the Hard rally races, sometimes this will be your competitor.

This may shock a few people, but some or all of the supercars in this game have kind of been negative surprises to me. I remember all the times I've struggled with the Ford GT, the Jaguar XJ220 in a license test, the Saleen S7 in the One-Make race there, and a car I sold not too long ago in the game- the Callaway C12. Many of the supercars understeer and have longish braking distances. If you're looking to test your car's capabilities for real, try racing one of my test tracks, Hong Kong. Say what you want about the track, but it is a good test of braking and powering out of turns. So far, the one I've seemed to like most was the Dodge Viper SRT-10. Someone asked me on GTPlanet, "you consider the Viper an exotic?" And I'm like, "how many Vipers do you see on a daily basis? How many people you know own one? Can people afford its price?" It's an exotic to me, and maybe if you can take it to the Supercar Festival, it will serve you pretty well.

Do you think some of the supercars and exotics in this game are a disappointing surprise?

Good: Nurb'
Honda S800 - probly the most under valued car on there. the thing is just so chuckable! i love it.
finaly cracking the 1min barrier on midfield racway

Bad: not being able to set my minolta up so i can do the nurb in it, prick of a car bounce's around so much i cant keep it straight
24h enduro's they suck!
the zonda - was one of my fave car's in GT3 and now it's crap!!
lack of money cause im buing beer to keep me going though enduro's
my gf yelling at me constantly to get of it haha

Understand though how protectonist the US government is in economic policies. Do you realise how much tax is placed on imported cars, and how much subsidy US buisness gets in general? The result is your own cars are absurdly cheap in the US (and absurdly expensive everywhere else) in comparison to other cars.

The prices seen in the US are really only useful when comparing two cars you are considering buying FROM the US. Though, it is useless when you want to actually compare the job a company has done in creating a car.
do lot nu goi cam ao lot nam sieu mong chau tam cao cap cho be ban si vay cong so nu chup anh hoi nghi
All cars are cheaper in the U.S., not just domestic cars. If the U.S. put too much tax on imports, then other countries would do the same thing and raise taxes on products imported from the U.S. to their country, so that at least keeps the U.S. government somewhat in check if they want to export anything.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Alpha Romeo 147 GTA. I thought for sure I'd never like and FF car, but I loved driving it.

It won it's one make race completely stock. I added a stage 1 weight reduction and a fc suspension to get it lower, and it won the Italian Cup and the Hot Hatch cup, no problem. Fun little car.

The Chrysler Crossfire surprised me by being fun to drive (once you turn the ASM off), and the Crossfire Cup surprised me by having quite a hard race at the Super Speedway.

The Caterham Fireblade...and the amount of TVRs in the game. Should have (somehow) put the Sagaris in there too. Ok, it was probably pretty impossible seeing as the cars only just available. Tuscan and the T350c will do me fine anyway :)
Not a lot look better than a Tuscan or T350

After clearing all the Real Circuit Tour races, I ended up getting the car I had trouble with in some license tests, the g** damned Skyline Pace Car. Let me tell you. Love Skylines or hate Skylines, this machine has surprised me, not because it's a pace car, but because I can actually enter and modify this machine in races. And let me tell you. I've never had this much fun in a GT game before. It is perhaps the ultimate publicity stunt for almost any GT race! Well, that and trying to beat an Audi R8 with a stock Mini Cooper. It's rated as a Tuner Car, so it's double fun. Just like in Champ Car, the next weird thing would have to be a Toyota Tacoma Safety Safari (those trucks who come to the aid of stopped cars and such), a BMW station wagon which serves as a Medical Car, or something like that. The Skyline Pace Car was in GT Concept if I remember from pictures. It's great fun! And if you lead the race, you can completely ditch the pack with your machine. Only thing needed is a Ford Crown Victoria police car, or even a Chevrolet Camaro Police Car. Mad props to PD!

at last got GT4 today.

good so far:
-muscle cars
-used wheels from normal cars
-old vehicles
-nurburgring

bad so far:
-car list SUCKS even more than in GT3. again, 75% of the cars are japanese. effing poliphony digital, effing japanese programmers-
-screen shaking. come on, how can an error like this still be in a finished game?
-the sounds of some cars amazingly suck. For good example, the Cuda.
-still favoring japanese cars and dissing euro/american/aussie cars. as usual.

Will there be a day that we can have a GT game that is a real racing game instead of a sales tool?

I hope so.

Dissing European cars? Some of the best cars I've driven in the game are German cars.

Also, what's up with "effing" Japanese this and that? Who asked you to buy this game? Here's a tip for you: If you have problem with Japanese racing game, made by fans of Japanese automobiles, don't buy it. I see your location is Mexico. Nothing against Mexico(I've got a Mexican friend), but how would you like it, if I buy an Mexican product and start dropping f bombs, saying it's too Mexican, should be more Japanese!

Agreed. I'm sorry to say this but GT4 is pretty much a biased game.

Oh, and driving American cars is nothing special. They perform terribly at turning, with the exception of their racing cars and the Vette (also not a fan of this car but it has decent handling).

Also, why is GT4 biased on the Ford GT?

This has come up before. I agree, that IMO, GT should be a way better car in real life. However, biased against Ford GT? GT is a cover car in the U.S. It's also an car that's very hard to obtain right now(in real life), but KY somehow managed to own one. He must've pulled few strings to get one, or paid hell lot of money. Now, does that sound like an American car hater?

No.

I don't know what PD is coming to. The Ford GT is derided by many players as having poor braking performance and mediocre handling. But still it is the cover car of the North American (NTSC) version of the game. So, the Ford GT is biased.

Yes, this has been covered before. I actually though many of the supercars and exotics had some bad performance issues. You have to really tune one to perfection to make it work with your driving style. This is why I had to keep modifying my Callaway C12 to make it shine. It can be painful to try to make something out of nothing with most cars. And this is why I said some of the supercars have been disappointments. Handling them can be pretty rough, even with the Ford GT. Even I had a Ford GT, just couldn't make anything happen when I did the Supercar Festival.

Part two. Japanese game, mostly Japanese cars. Here's a little comparison. The number of cars I've collected so far is 511. Among them in Arcade Mode, I have 42 Toyotas, 49 Nissans, 46 Hondas, 14 Fords, 6 Lexus cars, 11 Lotuses... yeah, the majority is Japanese. Look at it this way. If Gran Turismo was American, you'd see more American cars ranging from muscle cars to American compacts, and then would probably see very little Japanese cars. Then too, some people like Japanese cars more than any other. This is more like "some is better than none." I'm no patriot when it comes to what nationality of cars I like. You're not going to see me fret over so few of one nation's cars. A car is a car is a car. Whatever American car may not be in the game, you may find Used or as a Classic. Note I said "American car" and not "American muscle car." Not every car in America is a muscle car, so the variation is great in the game. Someone check the record collection GTPlanet has. It seems like too many broken records are played over and over again.

I still think it's a fun game and doesn't bore me to death, even after playing this since my Spring Break.

Thank you. 👍 That's what I was getting at, when I was responding to Cano. If GT was made by German programmers, who were fans of German automobiles, BMW/Mercedes/Porsche/Audi would dominate the list. Americans might be more open to imports, because many of the desired vehicles here are imports from Japan and Europe, IMO. :)

Also, I came up with another proof that KY or Polyphony Digital is not biased against Americans. Do you guys remember the Ford GT40 from Gran Turismo 3? That was my favorite car to drive in that game! I even said that in one of the GT3 thread about the "favorite car in GT3"(or something like that). :D

I did a little thinking on top of my last post, and in terms of car companies represented, the majority of the game is comprised of European makes, which make up for close to 50% of all the game's manufacturers. The Asia-Pacific (Japan, Korea, and Australia) make up for roughly over 25%, and American makes make up for roughly less than 25%. So if you ask me, more of Europe is represented in this game more than the Asia-Pacific. Don't forget that the Asian makes make up for perhaps one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world.

When I say I'm not patriotic of certain makes, all I'm saying is that... okay. I don't care where a car comes from. If it can perform, it's my favorite. I had the Corvette C2 Race Car until I sold it in the game. It made great sound and performed pretty well. Then too, my favorite JGTC racer so far is the Woodone GT500 Toyota Supra. If anything, this game does teach automotive diversity. Even with "100 Skylines" and "50 Lancers," if you account for just that, you're missing out on at least the remaining more than 90% of all the game's cars. You can race trendy European "hot hatches," you can run classic cars from the World Classics deal all the way up to the extreneous pains of "1000 Miles!", you can of course race muscle cars, hot tuners, rally cars, race cars, trucks... how can you go wrong? How can you just stay with one type of car? Sure, you can do that, but every Gran Turismo game (except maybe GT1) proves that there's a big world of automobiles. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned and very forgivable, but I'm happy with the American car selection, speaking as an American. Some is better than none. I don't care what they sound like, I don't care how many are in the game. I love as many cars as I can. I'm a citizen of the world when it comes to automobiles, and I'm proud. After all, isn't that the point of over 700 cars from many countries and several different companies?

Yamauchi makes so much effort to include wide, international variety of cars. Unfortunately, for a lot of people, it will never be enough. :guilty:

Now for example, I've recently bought a Burgundy Metallic 1969 Camaro SS. I decided to take this SS and make it a performance tuner car of mine. It doesn't mean that I prefer most other cars rather than muscle cars, it just means that I have a broad perspective on cars and do not like to be set in a certain category of cars. In fact, I may look into another Chevy in GT4 in the future, a C2 Corvette. Now people say what they want about how the muscle cars sound or whatever, but I'm happy to at least have certain cars in the game. I'm still modifying it enough to be a potent road racer. I still want that Shelby Mustang, though.

As I said before, I'm not a patriot with cars. It isn't like I'm fighting a war against a world of cars. The goal of the game isn't about trying to win the GT World Championship for your own nationality of cars. I just have a lot of creativity and a childish imagination. Anything from a Civic Type-R to a Corvette ZO6 to whatever is all about the drive of your life. Live your dreams. Mod anything. I'm easily forgivable. I'm unforgivable of GT4 if it doesn't satisfy my racing desires as in past GT games. And PD has yet to make a GT game that ruins the fun of racing anything and everything.

umm....actually, the ford GT special is the cover/feature car, and it handles and brakes just fine.

Good Post JohnBM....
Finally someone got the idea behind the whole game. Preferences in cars differ just as much as indiviuals. I hold no prejudice again and manufacturer of any country. A good car is not built by reputation (Porsche 944) and any area of the world has the potential to create a great car.

Good: (again) Lancia Stratous (an excellently designed car built before computers)
Bad: The Chrisler to complete 1 Lap Magic at nurburgring in driving missions (2 Days)
Ugly: The only Alpine

There are TWO Alpines. One looks more like a nice, curvy car, the other still pretty slick. I actually think they are pretty nice. The names of the two Alpines will come to me, but I like the curvy one more, lookswise. I think it's also more powerful than the other Alpine. They have a nice blue color. It's a signature color. You know, like how Ferrari has Ferrari Red, Alfa Romeo with Alfa Red/Rossa Alfa, and how most British cars have British Racing Green.

So, I actually like both Alpines. They also light up real pretty in night/evening/sunset races. Not that it matters, but yeah.

well..... i've had this game for a while now but time & commitments only let limited game play unfortunately :grumpy: , but i gotta say and by the sounds of things on this forum i'll have a fair bit of consensus.... the ginetta G4 is awesome. Being a bit of a revhead it was a shock when i found a car in GT4 that i never actually heard about (and i own a few as well like my sierra cosworth, which im disappointed about not making it into the game, as well as a fairlaidy Z32) but the G4 is fun to drive.....

The other surprise was the old Audi quattro... love the power oversteer the all wheel drive delivers, it reminds me a bit of an R32 i used to own & take to track days......
